My project involved electrical wiring in an older 4-plex in Oakland to replace existing knob and tube. I asked two companies to give me estimates, which were very close. I chose Berkeley Electric for two reasons: the first was the ease of communication with the owner of the company, Zalman Sher. In the beginning, I was surprised that the owner himself gave me the estimate. In the course of the planning and the work itself, he clearly explained everything that he felt was necessary to do, and we often exchanged emails to answer my questions. A second reason involved the cleanup and the patching of the holes that were made in the walls. Zalman's crew was very efficient at cleaning up the dust and debris, and they promised to patch all the holes. The other company specifically said they did not do any patching. This was a big bonus for me, since I was trying to keep the disruption to the tenants to a minimum. Everything went according to plan, and I'm very satisfied with their work.

I selected Berkeley Electric back in 2020 to do a whole home rewire (including removal of knob and tube) and an amperage upgrade, and I feel so lucky to have found them.

Berkeley Electric did an impeccable job with the rewire, including helping me select outlet placement, and since then the electrical system has stood the test of time excellently, even through a bathroom remodel and the additional of several new appliances (sump pump, disposal, electric stove, etc.).

Zalman always takes time to educate on how electrical systems work, which I appreciate deeply. I want to take good care of my home, and I've learned so much talking with him.

Berkeley Electric is a great choice not only for a re-wire, but for everything that will come up during the "life" of your home.

Very responsive, communicative and efficient owner and team. Upgraded remaining knob and tube, installed new subpanel, included troubleshooting of prior work by others in past 108 years, patched the many holes and addressed all concerns. All in short time period as we needed.

Zalman was a true professional through and through. I had just purchased a new home and found out in the disclosure that I would need to replace the main electrical panel and add a sub-panel as well. Zalman came over multiple times and made himself available to answer all my questions. He walked me through all the options and his reasoning for why certain changes should be made. He provided his expert opinion, but also understand I was working within a budget so he explained trade-offs and what would make the most sense. He was able to work within my budget, within my timeframe, and completed everything at the highest standard. Berkeley Electric well deserves this five star rating based on the extraordinarily careful and thorough diagnosis they conducted in order to identify and then repair a difficult-to-identify problem that jeopardized the electrical system in our duplex. Their performance on three separate rather straightforward jobs was equally exemplary. First rate in every respect and highly recommended.
