I've known Marty for many years and when I need a creative landscape architect, I only call him. He creates unique and exciting designs that compliment my Architecture. I've learn so much from his designs that I've incorporated some of them at my home as well!

We have collaborated with Environs on a number of high-end custom residential projects for over 10 years. Principal Marty Schmidt has a broad range of experience and has demonstrated a high level of design and technical acumen in his craft. Environs also excels in a team environment and is a pleasure to work with.

Environs did the design for my yard in Kensington. We wanted to go with a drought friendly landscape without it being cactus and rock (Rancho Bernardo). Kensington is an older neighborhood with lots of character and I didn't want the new landscape to look like a round peg in a square hole. Marty and company designed and oversaw the installation of the new landscape. It came out perfect and received many positive comments from neighbors, it even made the cover of a brochure published by the City of San Diego "Waterwise Program". I can't say enough good things about Environs. Even though they concentrate on bigger projects in La Jolla and the Muirlands, they did a fantastic job on my small yard. I would recommend them to anyone!

Lyons construction has worked with Marty from Environs on a number of projects in Coronado. Everything has always been super! Marty has a great eye for the overall project including Hardscape.

Environs worked with me on the site planning and design of my residence and property in Olivenhain. An undeveloped piece of land, the development of the site features and program where confirmed and a master plan was prepared for approval and implementation. Marty worked with me through the entire plan preparation, over sight of the installation, selection of the specimen trees and palms and helping to bring the project to completion. A beautiful garden and grounds that we enjoy and appreciate. Would definitely work with Environs again and highly recommend them based on their decades of experience.

We hired Environs to design the landscaping of our future home. Marty has come up with a design that not only makes our future home landscaping look like a 5 Star Resort it is highly drought resistant. We highly recommend Environs to fulfill your Landscape Design needs.

We engaged with Marty to collaborate with our Architect on the design of the central courtyard and the landscape for a new contemporary residence that we were building in the destination city of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The individual garden spaces and the 'picture landscapes' for each of the rooms create the complement to the architecture that makes the project a beautiful success. The central courtyard was treated as an art installation - a combination of materials, water, landscape + lighting that the entire project focuses on and makes for a all day / year round feature. We are beyond pleased with the end result and would highly recommend Environs.

Marty is an incredible landscape architect and artist. My wife and I hired Marty to landscape our home on Mt. Soledad. There were several challenging aspects of the project including the fact that our home backed up on a canyon and we wanted someone with expertise working with canyons, retaining walls and drainage. His designs were masterful. He matched the curve of our existing swimming pool in designing the stairs down to the pool and related retaining walls. His artistic use of plants and incorporation of water features and outdoor fireplace beautifully framed and enhanced the views. His use of plant color contrasted beautifully against our midcentury modern home. He also introduced us to many other skilled professionals that executed his designs beautifully and all within budget. We highly recommend Marty for any job no matter the complexity or size. It is an investment in the value of your home.

Marty is extremely knowledgeable and his pleasant, easy manner works well in a co-operative environment with designers, architects and contractors some of whom can have prickly egos. Marty was our landscape designer on our large project during a period where we suffered from a couple of "Prima Donnas". It is to his credit that we are highly satisfied with the results. Marty was responsive to our wishes and constraints and my wife and I recommend him unreservedly.

We had the pleasure of working with Marty and his team at Environs to renovate the existing landscaping for a commercial property in Carlsbad. Our company has worked with other landscape architects; however, we found Environs to be more creative and attentive to details. Environs is also very hands on and oversees the installation with great care and passion. They are also quick to respond to any questions or concerns. It has been a real delight to have worked with Environs and look forward to other projects.

We have been developing commercial projects and landscapes for approximately 35 years and over 5 million square feet. I am a botanical collector and have worked with many landscape architects through the years. We just recently completed a project called Summit Pointe wherein we worked with Martin Schmidt and his team at Environs and created a botanical garden. Marty created a fantastic plan in collaboration with the building architect and owner including new hardscape integrated with the existing hardscape as well as Zen rake gardens, an exterior kitchen and bar, amphitheater, cross fit center and a fantastic palette of exotic plants. He was very active in every aspect of this custom atypical commercial landscape and a real pleasure to deal with. I was so pleased with the experience that I recommended him to the owners association to redo the landscape theme throughout the business park and we have just commenced this exciting project. Environs was recommended to me by our Project Architect, Reyes Studio. Our Property in Alpine was 7 acres of undeveloped sloping hillside. Our Vision was for a Tuscan Hillside Villa that would take in all the long distance views. This is where Marty from Environs became a key team player in coordinating the grading, drainage, walls and landscape. Without Marty's help the project would never have turned out to our liking. I would recommend Marty for any landscape project.

Marty and team were critically helpful in design, permitting, and installation of our desires for a quiet, shady back yard for our San Diego property. We brought him a list of plants we wanted to use, an incredible list of false charges of land use violations, and we lived out of town.
He used our plant list, enhanced with suggestions from his knowledge of plants we'd never heard of, to create a plan we liked, and like more every day. His contacts in the industry got us a top-notch crew to install the garden (over two hundred trees on nearly two acres), and he was personally involved with the city and other government employees who use their administrative positions to abuse law-abiding property owners.
Without his help, we'd have never been able to do it.
