We noticed a water stain on the family room ceiling.Our realtor reached out to Manny who came over on short notice to inspect the flat roof. He found several cracks and explained several options. I cannot recommend Emmanuel and his team highly enough. I initially reached out to him for a re-roofing bid, and right from the start, he was incredibly helpful, professional, and responsive.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of focusing purely on a price comparison and went with a different company who delibrately undersell their bids. It is a decision I deeply regret. Once the other company ripped off my roof, they forced an aggressive change of order on us and took complete advantage of the situation.

In a moment of panic, I reached out to Emmanuel on a Saturday morning. Even though he didn't get the job, he stepped up to offer his honest insights and advice. His expertise helped us navigate a terrible situation and make a sensible, informed decision when we were being backed into a corner.

With a combined 80+ years of living in the Bay Area, my partner and I had a lot of personal referrals to check out when we needed a new roof. Luckily, after several professional but disappointing meetings with roofers, we talked to Emmanuel Mendoza of Monteczuma Roofing and found the master roofer we had been looking for. "Master Roofers" is the term Emmanuel used to describe himself and his crew and is a title that they earned on every one of the 4 days they spent installing an excellent and attractive roof on our house. Unlike the other roofing contractors we had spoken to, Emmanuel began by discussing the entire project, including how the crew would deal with our steep roof and solar panels. After we accepted Monteczuma's surprisingly reasonable estimate, Emmanuel was in constant contact with us, always inquiring if we were happy with the way the job was proceeding. We cannot recommend this company highly enough.

Emmanuel and Moctezuma Roofing have helped me with several roofing jobs. One involved my mom's house to repair Cal Shake damage. A couple others involved shoring up the flat roof on a multi-unit rental, for maintenance and to help resolve puddling issues, reworking the slope and edge all around and installing a gutter, ultimately to help appease the insurance company. Emmanuel and his crew do clean, excellent work, and in a timely fashion. They're honest, reliable, and will do their best to accommodate. Highly recommended!

Emmanuel and his team at Moctezuma Roofing are wonderful. They are professional, responsive, on-time, efficient, and ready to complete the job at the highest level of workmanship. They installed a solar roof in partnership with GAF Energy, and the job was completed seamlessly. Emmanuel sent his team of 5-12 people depending on the workload for the day. The whole process was completed in under 1 week. We will see how the roof fares this rainy winter, but I am confident that we have a great sturdy roof.

This roofing company put my roof on about four years ago. They did an excellent job reasonable price and got it done in the time that they said they would. Fast-forward To now 2025 I was having a gutter problem and I wasn’t quite sure who to call so I decided to call this roofing company back. They remembered me and sent their guys out to clean my gutters no charge. Who does that these days. Nobody ever does that. That’s called great customer service! The guys came when they said they would they did an excellent job and I would refer this company to anyone for their roofing needs.

Emmanuel and his team took off 3 old layers of roofing shingles and put on a new roof, along with some insulation material to help cool/heat my upstairs bedroom. They were hard workers, cleaned up daily, and finished a day or two earlier than predicted. Emmanuel is a particularly good communicator, keeping me apprised of all that was happening, taking photos, etc. I would highly recommend them as trustworthy and knowledgeable.

Moctezuma Roofing (Jacob, Alex & Crew)

I want to write a detailed and technical review of my experience with Moctezuma Roofing, specifically Jacob Moctezuma, Alex, and their crew, because the quality of workmanship truly deserves it. This project involved a complete roof replacement and was part of a larger GAF Energy solar shingle project, where Jacob Moctezuma handled the entire roofing scope. This review focuses only on the roofing work performed by Moctezuma Roofing, which was excellent.

One major advantage of working with Moctezuma Roofing is communication. They are not a large corporate company, and that worked strongly in my favor. Jacob was extremely easy to reach, often within minutes. Communication was clear, direct, and very technical. We had roughly 10–20 detailed phone and Zoom discussions covering roof replacement planning, solar-ready roofing considerations, ventilation calculations, airflow balance, and exact GAF product specifications. Jacob was patient, never rushed me, and always willing to revise estimates and explain the technical reasoning so I could choose the right configuration for my home.

Ventilation was treated as a complete system, not an afterthought. We discussed intake and exhaust in detail and selected properly sized dome vents with approximately 144 square inches of net free area, placed carefully. Jacob strongly emphasized correct passive ventilation balance. He also upgraded my ridge vent to a Snow Country ridge vent with integrated filtration to prevent insects and debris from entering the attic, provided at no additional cost. The ridge vent was installed correctly by stopping one to two feet short on both ends instead of running edge to edge, helping maintain roof integrity and weather resistance. The crew documented the work with photos throughout the process.

Jacob paid close attention to waterproofing and wall-to-roof transitions, which are common failure points. StormGuard was installed six inches up the wall, exceeding the typical five-inch requirement. Where siding interfered, the crew removed it, installed StormGuard properly, and reinstalled everything cleanly. StormGuard was installed wherever technically required, not just where it was convenient.

During demolition, Jacob and Alex identified decking corners that were not sitting properly along with areas of dry rot. Instead of ignoring these issues, they replaced the decking, removed all rotted wood, and reinstalled everything square, flat, and properly secured. Jacob was clear that roof leaks can cause major interior damage and shortcuts were not acceptable.

The project included a full roof replacement along with new gutters and downspouts. My existing high-end gutter guards were carefully reinstalled. After completion, the crew performed a full water test to confirm there were no leaks, no water flowing behind the gutters, no water jumping off the gutter guards, and proper drainage through the downspouts.

The project lasted over seven days. Alex and his brother arrived on time every morning, work started promptly, and the crew remained professional throughout. My artificial turf and property were protected, cleanup was done daily, and the site was left clean.

When the city inspector arrived, I requested a thorough inspection. The inspector went onto the roof, checked everything in detail, and came down visibly impressed with the workmanship. The project passed inspection cleanly and quickly.

Jacob is a veteran with a technical and radio background, which shows in his methodical and precise approach. Alex is an excellent crew lead—organized, calm, and hands-on. They are reliable, easy to communicate with, and genuinely care about doing the job correctly. I highly recommend Moctezuma Roofing for technically sound, high-quality work.

I have to give a lot of props to Emmanuel and his team. I spent a lot of time researching roofs and getting quotes from different people so that I could fully understand the process of replacing my roof to get a new solar panel. I previously had a metal shingle roof with wooden shakes underneath but no plywood decking, so it was not possible to put solar panels on. I needed a lot of explanation and help weighing my options, and Emmanuel came in person and explained all of this, including shingle roofs with GAF versus conventional solar panel systems.

He patiently helped me weigh my options of replacing my metal shingle roof with another metal shingle roof versus a composite asphalt shingle roof. Over several weeks of doing research and getting quotes from others, he continued to follow up with me and answer questions. In the end, I went with him because I felt that he is an actual roofer himself, so he understands the process and explained it in person. He also takes pride in being a Master Elite roofer, providing very good quality and getting good patient reviews. I really think that someone who values his own craft to make sure it is done well and not just to make money is very important to me. I like the fact that I’m not just talking to a project manager who may not understand the roofing process as well as someone who actually is a roofer. He climbed into the attic personally to check my roof when other project managers didn’t want to go into the attic. He’s the owner and so he takes full ownership of his project. He really seems to care a lot and gives honest advice to help customers.

His price is also very competitive, and even though replacing a roof now seems to be a lot more expensive than it used to be 5 to 10 years ago, his price still seems competitive compared to other roofers. It also seems to be backed up with good quality and a good warranty. He came to check on the work regularly and sent me pictures with updates to let me know what was happening.

He is also very flexible and helped with little things that are important to me, such as removing and then replacing the small solar panels for my security camera, keeping my rain gutter and gutter guards, putting them back beautifully, redirecting vent hood pipe to go straight up and relocating the vent, as well as making sure we put in radiant barriers and thermal sheets to ensure the house stays cool in the summer and insulates similarly well to metal shingle roofs.

Overall, I’m very glad I went with him because he and his team are all very professional, very nice, and really did a great job. During the roof work, they also kept the house and yard very clean, including completely covering up the pool during the work. Every day they covered up the entire roof to make sure that, in case it rained, the roof would not get wet. I’m glad they did that because it actually rained one of the days out of the blue in September, which was a little surprising. When the project was done be climbed up on the roof with me and did a walk through so ensure I’m happy. I have full confidence that if anything comes up, which I doubt, Emmanuel’s got my back and my roof. I hope he keeps doing this for many more years because he is very reliable.
