By far the best option for A/C and Heating help in PML. Chris is knowledgeable, responsive and fair. I highly recommend, and he lives here so that is a bonus!

Chris was great. Knew immediately how to fix my 40 year old gas wall heater that hadn't been looked at -- ever. Thanks Chris! I'm warm again.

When I look for people to work on my house there are a few key factors that are important to me, especially since I want to establish a long-term working relationship with these professionals:

    1) Does this person respect my time? Is this person responsive, come on time, call when they're late? This is important because I want anyone doing business with me to respect my time as much as a respect their time. (Sometimes I've called people and they've acted like I'm bothering them).

    2) Are their prices fair? Not cheap, but fair. People are needing to make a living and I want whoever is working on my home to believe they are being compensated fairly for the work they're doing and I want to make sure I'm not being ripped off.

    3) Do they treat me the same as they would treat a man? Look, for those of you who are men, you wouldn't understand this so you can skip this one. However, as a female I can count too many times how ridiculous professional male contractors have treated me. I want to understand why and how things work and I don't want you to assume that I'm not interested. It's my house. I live here. Trust me I'm interested and if I'm not, I'll tell you.

    4) Finally I want to work with someone that is honest. This is really quite simple. Google is an amazing tool so if you tell me something that isn't true, I'm going to find out and if you're lying I not only won't be working with you, but I will never refer you to anyone in my networks (in person or virtually)

SO, all that to say Chris Levering is all of these things which is why I'm giving him five stars. Sure he may not remind you of running through a meadow on a cool breezy day, but who cares. If you're invested in keeping you and your family warm, safe and not breaking the bank for home repairs or upgrades this is the kind of guy you want.

I run a business and it seems whenever I have an issue it’s always a weekend. Chris has always been quick to respond and help me out. I’ve been using his service for about 3 years on my 4 commercial units on each of my 2 buildings.

Chris helped get my family’s floor furnace fixed when we moved into our home and he’s been great at consulting with follow up questions afterwards, too. Highly recommend.

Our floor furnace is the original 1950 furnace when the house was built. Now, 73 years later, that same floor furnace continues to safely heat our house thanks to Chris! Highly recommended!!

Chris repaired my furnace, bllower wasn't working. He was able to schedule my appointment in a timely maner and when he arrived, he was able to determend the problem and replace the failed part which he had on his truck. He was quick making the repairs and his cost was reasonable.

I could not be happier with the service I have received from Chris. I have been experiencing issues with my a/c for some time now and not knowing what the problem was, I was very hesitant with regards to reaching out for help from an unfamiliar HVAC technician.

Fortunately, I was in good hands. Chris arrived promptly to our appointment. After accessing the issue, Chris concluded that the solution was to replace a bad capacitor. He replaced the capacitor, ran a repair test, and proceeded with a concise and informative "a/c 101".

Although Chris was very professional, there was never once up-selling. He found a problem and provided an informative, cost effective solution. This was SHOCKING, in my experience, with this form of service. Definitely seeking Chris again for all of my future hvac needs.

I absolutely recommend Levering's heating and air conditioning!

Woke up to a chilly house and realized my furnace wasn't doing what it should. I called Chris around 1, he was here at 2 and my furnace is fixed and I have a brand spanking new thermostat that he had on his truck! I could not be more pleased with my experience - efficient, friendly, thoughtful, and most importantly, got the job done! Thank you!!

Have an old gas wall heater that wouldn't hold a pilot light. I spent some time myself replacing the thermocouple, and hit a roadblock. Called Chris and he came right away. Chris quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced the faulty part. He was fast, honest, and a straight shooter. Would definitely use him again.

Our heater was broken and we were cold! I called on a Friday and he came the very same day. He arrived promptly, called before he came and fixed the heater in under half an hour. He even serviced the heater! Very happy with the service we received, I would certainly use Chris again. I highly recommend him.

My heater went out at the house. Chris was slammed but called me a day earlier than we planned to squeeze me in which was awesome! He was very professional, knowledgeable, communicated well, and was fast!! I definitely recommend him for any HVAC needs.

Absolutely amazing. Came home from a trip to a cold house and an ancient furnace. Rather than an aggressive upsell, Chris honestly assessed the situation and got my furnace working, ensured it was safe, and updated thermostat for a VERY REASONABLE PRICE, all on the same day, and my house is warm and cozy and I'm thrilled. Highly recommend. Thank you!

We purchased an old home (built in 1928) with a floor furnace. We knew there was something wrong with it when we bought the house because it wouldn't turn on, so we had PG&E come take a look at it and they told us after the inspection that we needed to hire a contractor because they weren't able to fix it. The pilot light went on but the burner wouldn't, and someone at some point replaced the thermocouple with a thermopile; the thermostat also wasn't hooked up, but the tech claimed that he hooked it up and still couldn't get the furnace on.

We had an HVAC company come out to inspect the furnace, who of course said they didn't recommend putting any money into it and that we needed to replace it. They said it was rusted but had no visible cracks, but also couldn't guarantee there weren't invisible cracks that could pump carbon monoxide into the house. After quoting us over $14,000 to replace the entire furnace (which would involve cutting new vents into these old hardwood floors), I became determined to find someone who could repair our furnace.

That's harder than it sounds when most HVAC companies just want to sell you an entirely new system for tens of thousands of dollars, won't touch the old furnaces, and tell you all of the parts are obsolete and aren't made anymore. After finding three different sources that said modern parts can be switched out on these old furnaces and that pretty much anything can be repaired except a ruptured firebox, I started searching even harder for someone local who repairs floor furnaces.

Finally stumbled on Chris Levering's info, who happens to be in San Leandro, too. I left him a voicemail, he called back a short time later that day, and came out the next morning. He explained the issue, what it would take to fix the furnace (said he was essentially rebuilding the furnace), was very transparent about pricing, and in somewhere between an hour or two we had a working furnace again. He also replaced our thermostat with a digital, programmable one. Our grand total was a little over $1300 for everything.

Chris also found that at some point, someone tried to use a part for an ice machine to repair the furnace. He also noticed that the PG&E tech didn't hook up the thermostat properly. Just incompetence all around from the people that came before Chris.

We have carbon monoxide detectors (including one on the wall right above one of the floor vents, in the hallway outside our bedroom), and after determining they're new and working fine, were relieved that they weren't going off.

Incredibly grateful to Chris for his knowledge and hard work. We'd been sitting in an icebox (really not much of an exaggeration given the internal temperature of the house, which was similar to what it was outside), our house growing gradually colder as we approached winter. I knew, with all of the old homes in the Bay Area that have floor furnaces (my parents' and grandma's included), there had to be someone around servicing them when they had problems.

If you're having issues with your floor furnace in your old home, reach out to Chris before shelling out tens of thousands on a new furnace just because an HVAC company says you should. Second, third, even fifth opinions can save you serious money. It's one thing if it's determined to be unsafe, but if it's a matter of worn out (or incorrect) parts, call Chris to take a look.
