Hodgin & Sons Tree Service did a great job, I have previously used them and will use them again.

Thank you guys for a great job. It's a hard job for any person. Was very impressed with how safe and hard working this crew was. With all the fires and wind I feel much safer with my house and yard cleared and pruned.

Excellent experience. The crew was here early ready to work. They trimmed the tree as expected. They did a great job cleaning away the trimmed branches and swept up the sidewalk and street where they worked. I will use them again in the future for my trees in the backyard.

Mike came out, looked at our trees, analyzed access for a lift truck, and we had a quote that evening. On the day of the job, the crew arrived and were all business. While the lift truck was making access, the saws were already running. They carefully cleared an access path to drag branches to their chipper and kept the chipping operation going as they safely pieced down a large walnut. As they were finishing the last cuts, raking and clean up were in progress. Good teamwork, safe operation, fair price.

Hodgin Son’s Tree Care did a great job! The crew was lovely and polite and cleaned up after the work. I will use them again next time.

Had two tall amber trees pruned. The trees were originally close to the same height. A day after the job I got to see the two trees from more of a distance they are now oddly different heights and the crown of the tree on the left looks like it was only lightly done leaving several branches untouched. The whole thing looks unbalanced. Too late now. They cleaned up the site well. Maybe they are more of a takedown service ?

Didn't call me back.

I would never in my life use these guys for anything other than toilet paper!
-
Charged me "double" what Atlas Tree service charged for the same job on another tree in my yard. Did a very poor job of clean up. I DO NOT recommend you use this service for anything in your yard!

Mike like most tree operators is a likable charming guy....needs to be to get your money. We agreed to a price for a single 100ft tree removal, grinding the stump, and taking 4 limbs off another tree, and using a small tractor to level the ground near the downed tree (10ft from the paved road) which he said would take ten minutes so I could put up my son's pool. He gave me a date the following week. The promised morning, I called and asked if he was on the way. Big excuses, and told the stump grinder was down for repairs. I cheerfully said I understood, lets reschedule. Said he would get back to me with a date. After 3 more days went by, I called him. Once again he seemed to be thinking on the fly. Got a date about 7 more days out. Agreed. I had to call him in the evening to confirm they were coming. His crew showed up, and my guy took down 10ft of fence for them. His crew were great, clean cut guys, and did some of the job. About 3pm Mike came back. I handed him all the cash, trusting the job would be finished. Came home at 6pm to see all his stuff gone, and my yard untouched leaving me unable to put up my 11yr sons pool-the main reason I took the tree down, and Mike knew that child was waiting on him. More excuses, followed by a promise to have the tractor there for the ten minute job by Friday. (This is Monday) Once again, no show, no call. I talk to Mike the next Monday and one more promise his tractor would be here first thing on Tuesday morning. I arranged for my man to be there to remove the temporary fence to allow the tractor access. He waited 3 hours-no show, no call AS USUAL. Seems Mike's dad built a great business, and a busy tree service makes serious money for the owner. Easy money breeds contempt for the customer, as there is always another sucker needing a tree down. BUT WAIT!!! That's not all! On Mondays call, he informed me they would not be removing the 4 limbs from the other large tree as they overhang the neighbors and need to be lowered by ropes. (A half hour) "I hadn't really noticed that, so we can't do that, but I will talk to you about getting those down." Now still trying to upsell the job, and take more money after horrific service. Takes big gonads to pull that, and big gonads make for a big target!!!! YOU are the tree expert who grew up in this business, and YOU are responsible for accurate bids. Your bid is your promise, attached to YOUR father's name....money once again, is more important than integrity. Your dad would be proud. I was a bush pilot/armed walking safari guide in Africa for ten years. When some one screwed one of our gang of hunters, guides, and anti poaching rangers, we would beat them lightly, tie them up, drive them into the bush, cut them loose just before dark unarmed, and let them walk out of the game reserve. Sad, we have to be more civilized here. See you in small claims court Mike, and I will enjoy posting this every place I can. You deserve it in spades!
Later same day: Mike leaves a message saying he had an emergency PG&E outage to attend to in Occidental, and that was why he hadn't come, and could come immediately. I checked the PG&E outage website to discover the outage was at 11:38am.....over two and a half hours AFTER he was supposed to be at my house. Don't want him anywhere near my home. I will pay a reputable company to finish HIS job, and recover in small claims court. -
I called a week ago to schedule a time for them to come out and give me an estimate on cutting down a tree. My first scheduled appointment was for Thursday June 1st at 1:00 PM. I received a call from them that they had an emergency call and would need to re-schedule for between 4:00 PM and 5PM, which I agreed to. At 4:45 PM, I called them to see when he would be out, and was told that he was still on the emergency call and they'd need to re-schedule for the following day. I set an appointment for between 2 and 3 PM. At 2:50 PM today I called to see where he was...they didn't know, but assumed he was on an emergency call. Two emergencies in two days!!! There must be a lot of random trees falling down in Sonoma County. The person who I talked to, who had the family last name, said he would try to reach him and find out what was going on, and would call me back before the end of the day.
It's now 5:30 PM, their "answering service" who surprisingly knows that our estimator has been on a lot of emergency calls, couldn't reach anyone in the office.
I've now wasted a full day yesterday, and half a day today waiting for someone to show up for my scheduled appointments that I scheduled a week ago. They don't bother to call you when they can't show up, and quite honestly fall back on the "emergency' excuse every time they fail to keep an appointment. If they are this bad at communicating with potential customers, there is no way I would trust them to cut a tree down near my house.
Stay FAR away! -
Previous job done well, price competitive so I called them for a new small job. Scheduled an appointment for 9:00 AM last Monday...called at 10:00 AM & was told that my appointment was actually for 10:00 but Mike was just leaving Occidental or someplace due to an emergency but was on his way to my house. He never showed nor gave me the courtesy of a phone call that he wasn't going to show...never heard from them since. Maybe my description of a " small job" made me irrelevant with all of the big jobs out there?
