We moved into a house that had a severely neglected lawn that was basically all weeds. After battling it for a year myself, I realized that I needed to call in a professional. Not only was Putnam Landscaping's quote the best of three I solicited, but the owner Grant also spent a lot of time talking me through the plan, which included killing the entire lawn, digging up the weeds, aerating, and re-seeding. Needless to say, this was a scary process to sign on to.

The entire Putnam crew was incredibly professional, skilled and detailed. After the killing part, the lawn looked pretty terrible for a while (leading to some serious eyebrows from the wife). But then the grass started growing and a month later we have a beautiful, full, healthy lawn. I really can't recommend these guys enough. Great people, great prices, and great process.

We recently had the pleasure of collaborating with Putnam's Landscaping on an extensive landscape installation for my new home in Darien, CT. The Putnam team, led by Grant Putnam and Chandler Vinton, designed and executed our landscape project on time and within budget. They were a true pleasure to work with and we look forward to many more future collaborations.

Grant and his team are not only very professional, they are extraordinarily quick to respond if something timely is needed. They do a fantastic job maintaining our property, recommending needed maintenance, and suggesting aesthetic and value-adding ideas. They have experts (arborist, irrigation, etc.) on staff and are a fantastic local business to support.

The first project I had Grant and Putnam's Landscaping do for us was in 2012. Over the years, I have given the team seeding, mowing, landscaping maintenance and redesign, tree trimming, mulching, walkway repairs, sprinkler system installation and maintenance, and more. Grant is knowledgable, creative, honest, reliable, and professional. He trains his team with the same principles. I've used his services for the past 14 years because I know the team will do a good job, and in the few instances when I was disappointed, Grant always followed up and worked with me to rectify the situation. I highly recommend considering him for new jobs, property maintenance, and more.

Grant and his team are wonderful to work with. Over the past 5.5yrs we went from just adding lighting to our property to taking on a full front landscaping project. It has transformed out home. Hired Grant and the Putnam team to consult, design, and execute a full property transformation including tear-down, grading, irrigation, and replanting. Throughout they provided patient, expert advice, multiple ideas to choose from, and were a true pleasure to work with. Genuinely good at what they do. Pricing was transparent and in line with value provided. I’m so glad we called the Putnam team.

Not impressed.

Don’t be fouled by Grant’s sales pitch. We hired Grant to install a new lawn, which required 20 yards of “screened” topsoil. Instead of providing “screened” topsoil, which was clearly specified on the proposal/contract, he brought topsoil that contained A LOT OF ROCKS. When I say a lot, I mean A LOT…both large and small. Unfortunately we didn’t realize until it was too late – the grass didn’t grow. We had to hire another landscaper to remove his soil and start all over. I have to assume that there are a lot of homeowners that aren’t familiar with the importance of “screened” topsoil when growing grass. The fact that Grant did something this shady (as a tenured landscaper that he claims to be) is inexcusable. Stay away from this business as there are plenty other landscapers that understand the importance of providing great service while not cutting corners.
