I hired Grel Heating to investigate an unusual gas smell coming from my exterior vent in December. Nicor Gas confirmed the presence of high levels of carbon monoxide, which was alarming. The technician advised turning off the furnace until it was serviced. A ticket was written and I was instructed to show it to Grel Heating, but their representative Robert found everything fine and downplayed the issue, claiming normal carbon monoxide emissions from furnaces weren't a cause for concern. Despite his dismissal, I still felt uneasy about the persistent smell emanating from the vent. Thankfully, another heating company quickly assessed the situation and expressed serious concerns over the odor, diagnosing a cracked heat exchanger that necessitated immediate furnace replacement. Needless to say, I'm extremely dissatisfied with Grel Heating's handling of this critical issue and would not recommend them to anyone.
