Derick was professional, kind, punctual, knowledgeable and provided a reasonable estimate in a timely manner. I was impressed with Shack Built and would most definitely recommend their services.

As a fellow trade person, working with the guys at shack built was a breeze. Not only are they competent, but have a really cool modern flair for the style they create. They build a great product and are easy to deal with. I have no problem referring them to anyone I meet.

The professional and personal attention given to our basement bath remodel and kitchen trash compactor removal was appreciated. They were able to remove a very difficult compactor that other companies said my whole kitchen floor would have to be redone plus matched my existing cabinets with a rollout trash bin. They also put in insulation to warm our floors. They were very punctual and consistent with communication. We are enjoying our home.

Shack Built remodeled our kitchen. They maintain excellent communication, set realistic expectations on timelines and expense. They are honest and trustworthy. The quality of their work is excellent!

I have met with Derick several times and he is very attentive and responsive to all my requests. He is extremely detail oriented and makes that he understands the entire process before making any decisions. I would not hesitate to recommend Derick for any project you have!

Shackbuilt was referred by a neighbor who said they were very particular in doing their job right. I was concerned they might be too expensive based on that comment. It turns out their bid was below other bids we received.
Indeed, the work was done very professionally and in a reasonable timeframe. Derick & Brett followed up at the end to make sure any concerns were addressed. There were none, the work done is excellent.

It's always great when we get the opportunity to work on a project with Derick Shackelford at Shack Built. As a window and door provider of Pella Products, we get to work with our fair share of contractors. Derick is one who always stands out to us. His creative and outside the box ability to transform a home to be as energy efficient as possible is truly amazing! He is really gifted in this area. It's natural to him and it shows. The other two things that always impresses me with Derick is the simple fact that he is a man of high integrity and his willingness to volunteer his time and give back to the community. He is passionate in everything he does and is a remarkable individual. If you are looking to transform your home through a remodeling or renovation project, you need to give Derick a call. My construction and COVID began at the same time. We encountered supply chain problems, subcontractors getting COVID, and problems with the city permitting process. All the "usual" headaches with a remodel were magnified due to COVID. Despite the uncertain and changing conditions Shack Built worked through them all. They always communicated with me regardless of the news. They guided me through all phases of the process and helped me make smart choices. Their attention to detail sets them apart from other contractors. "Good enough" is not good enough for Shackbuilt, they strive for excellence. I love my home addition!
Update: Prior to my remodel I had serious water issues in my basement. After the remodel the water issues were gone. After a recent overnight long rain storm I had no water, no moisture, no damp spots, nothing! The remodel is beautiful. The water mitigation was a miracle!

Shack Built helped us finish our basement. They were collaborative during the design process and transparent on potential change orders. They were easy to work with and produced a quality product that we were very happy with.

We contacted Derick Shackleford at Shack Built in September of 2018 to request a plan and quote to finish our basement. From that moment on, he and his team’s work, communication, and timeliness far exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t more highly recommend them with a Five-Star rating.

All around Derick, Brett, and their team were a pleasure to work with on our basement project. We finished around 1,000 SF of space. The quality of workmanship was extremely high and even when there were issues, which were inevitable on a project of this size and complexity, Derick and Brett never stopped problem solving and working to meet our expectations. From proposal through completion, the process was well orchestrated by their production manager, Brett Schubert. In addition, the overall construction team and subcontractors - framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, finishing, (walls, paint, trim, doors etc.), cabinets, and counter tops were all excellent.

Most importantly, it is evident that two-way communication is highly valued by Derick and Brett and they know that it is necessary in order to make the process as enjoyable as possible. They are also open to feedback and recommendations related to how to improve the process. They were respectful of our home when entering and exiting each day and they kept the work space as clean as possible. Examples include having a dumpster and porta-potty on site and placing paper protection on the floors. They even paid for a full house cleaning after the project was complete!!! Shack Built kept on schedule throughout the project and we passed every building inspection on the first pass. We recommend the team at Shack Built to anyone, and not just for basement finishes. They also completed work on our dining room and stairwell.

We consistently receive compliments on how beautiful and well done our basement looks. Anytime we hear of someone contemplating a basement project we quickly share with them our highest recommendation of Shack Built. They are FANTASTIC!

Shack Built was easy to work with from first meeting until completion. The bid price was adjusted with fair extras and credits and the finished project was equal to or exceeded our expectations. I have already recommended the company to others and will continue to do so.

We contracted ShackBuilt to completely remodel, reconfigure, and expand our master bathroom. They were extremely responsive and dependable. I value their attention to detail and appreciate that they never cut corners, always holding themselves accountable. As someone who works in the engineering and construction industry, I have high standards and expectations. They encouraged our unique and midcentury modern design concepts and seemed to enjoy the challenge of creating something new and different! We have used Shackbuilt for a few projects to date (Bathroom x2, Patio x2) Derick takes pride in the work he and his team produce at the end of the day. As with any project, there is always risk of something unexpected and the team helped us navigate those situations making sure things were managed the best they could be for the circumstances.

Almost whole home remodel, happy with the results. More importantly, my review is of the people. You see what people are made of when faced with difficult situations. My project had some significant challenges. The owner Derick and I had tough conversations and we worked through the challenges together. Derick is honest, fair, and follows through. He surrounds himself with the same quality of people - his employees and trades.

I engaged Derick to replace our aging deck with a new version of the same footprint. Being new to working with contractors and major house projects, I had several meetings with Derick to discuss all the details of the project and plan out the specifics. My goal was to avoid costly changes/issues later in the project. As all good plans go, there were issues that came up. Derick respondedly quickly and professionally to ALL of my concerns as they came up. His attitude was one of "let's work this out" rather than "that will be an expensive change, do you really want it." Derick's calm demeanor helped reduce the stress for us and kept his team moving in the right direction. All of my puch list items were taken care of and the deck looks beautiful. After a year of living with the deck, it still meets my expectations. Derick has even followed up a couple of times to make sure things were good and no touch-ups were required. Overall, a great experience with Derick and his team.

We used ShackBuilt to help design and remodel our master bathroom. Everyone at ShackBuilt was professional, responsible, caring, and communicative. Derick met with my wife and me multiple times and had multiple, lengthy conversations on the phone to help us make our choices for the bathroom. Everyone was extremely fast to answer our questions and everyone that came to work in our house was extremely respectful. Every evening the Matt made sure to make the place as clean as it was when he got there and never left anything out of place.

I cannot say enough about how knowledgeable and friendly Derick, Marty, and Matt were throughout the entire process. Additionally, multiple times I sent emails to Sarah to ask questions about products and pricing from some of their other projects and she got back to me incredibly quickly and got me exactly what I needed. I would absolutely let them in my house again for another project.

Shack Built was brought in to finish our garage, make our attic accessible, replace and install windows and doors and they did a fantastic job. Felt the proj manager was in constant contact with us and explained why a door was delayed at the manufacturer. I would highly recommend them for any project big or small.

After meeting Derick, it was great to see someone who sets expectations and is clear with myself and the homeowner. Shack Built has done several projects for us, and we have been extremely happy with the results. Derick provides quality work at an affordable price. He carefully inspects the work done by sub-contractors and requires touch-ups and corrections if needed. He stands by his work, if there is ever a problem after the fact.

We recently used Shack Built for bathroom and laundry room remodels. We started the process with architect drawings, design meetings and finally construction. Our home was built in 1935, the team knew how to handle any situation which arose due to older home construction. They were professional, clean and timely. Marty our contract manager was available everyday to answer questions and manage his team. Our finished product is beautiful and I would not hesitate to recommend Shack Built and hope to use them again in the future.

We worked with the team at ShackBuilt to renovate the existing laundry room to accommodate a shower to help my parents "age in place." Derick was very detailed and great on following up with us on many details. He made great recommendations for materials that were more cost effective. I've worked with many contractors over the years and you'll not find a more reliable and honest team!
