If I could leave zero stars I would. Was referred to Northern Comfort by a neighbor when our AC stopped working during a heat wave in July. It took them about a week to send someone out. Tech was at my home for 15/20 minutes. Diagnosed the issue. We waited another 5 days or so for a quote.

They sent us a $20k quote to replace the unit with nothing itemized or broken down. I called twice asking if someone could please either help us understand or update the quote to include some basic costs broken out. How much is the actual unit? What are they proposing we replace it with? What brand? How big is it? Ballpark of your labor fees for this job? Other costs?

When I spoke with Mike on the phone about my request to get an itemized quote he said he didn’t know how to do that. I asked how he came up with $20,000 for the job and he said “well I know how much it costs to do the job.” I said great can you tell me how you got there?

To this day, September 22, I haven’t received an itemized quote.

Silence from them for 2 weeks. Then I got a $300 bill from them for the diagnosis visit. This is an absurd rate for a diagnostic visit; I called 8 other local HVAC companies with high Google reviews in Easton, Bridgewater and Mansfield and found rates between $100-$175. In addition to the rate being double to triple their competitors, the fee was never disclosed when making the appointment, nor when the technician was here, nor at any other point in my interaction with NC.

So if you’d like a surprise $300 bill for a 15 minute diagnostic visit, and a vague quote with no equipment or services broken down, this company is for you!

I am very disappointed with this company. I own a property management company in the area and typically call this company for HVAC services. My family has a history with this company, my grandfather even worked with him. Last week we were dealing with a no heat situation (non emergency call). They charged us 800/hr because the technician didn’t like the caller he had to work in, complaining of spider webs and because we “agreed to it”. We didn’t agree and we asked for the price to be lowered multiple times. Not only were we charged $1600 for the service, but you have to pay $300 for the diagnosis fee, so in total I have to pay $1,900 for them to restore the heat. Talk about price gauging. I contacted the owner and all he said was “well you agreed to the price”. No we didn’t agree, no one else had the part and my tenants had no heat for 2 days. I will never use this company again. I’m so disappointed this is how they treat a long term customer.
