We moved into a new house with a large backyard that needed a lot of work. We contacted the Narrow Lane and met with Ron Goode back in August 2021. His landscape design was exactly what we were dreaming for a backyard.
Thanks to his vision, we have a large space for our young kids to play, an in ground trampoline and a variety of perfectly placed pine trees around the yard. We needed to take out some trees, level the ground, trench drains, new irrigation, a fence and lighting around the yard. He managed the whole project from start to finish. Ron and his team were very professional and always available to answer questions. We have a great experience and recommend his services to all of our friends.

Ron and the Narrow Lane have taken care of our landscaping needs for over ten years. They do a great job, are always polite and considerate, and are very responsive if/when we need special consideration such as mowing for a special occasion etc. Most recently, they were extremely helpful with masonry repairs and planting flowers to help us get our home ready to put on the market. They did great work and got it done on short notice.

The Narrow Lane has been maintaining our property for many years now. Their crews have done a beautiful job caring for our landscaping during the growing season, doing our fall cleanup, and keeping our driveway and pathways clear of snow in the winter. They are highly reliable in letting us know when work will be done, and in responding to needs as they arise in a timely manner. We are very satisfied customers!

Exceptional vision, execution and process.

We did a complete renovation of our backyard, including tearing out an old retaining wall and huge tree stumps, leveling the backyard, building two patios, a (highly) customized fence, and complete excavation and replanting of the front and backyards. Given the scope of our project, we evaluated a number of companies, including the larger names in the industry and smaller local companies, before choosing Narrow Lane. What sold us was Jeremy’s vision for the space, their ability to do everything so we didn’t have to contract with multiple parties, their willingness to work with us to get the project within our budget (and kept it there), and their commitment to ensuring it is a good process for their customers. I cannot emphasize this last point enough; they truly lived up to it every step of the way. In addition to carrying out such a significant renovation, we were navigating a challenging boundary dispute with a neighbor. Not only was there not a challenge we came up against that they couldn’t handle (and did so with good humor), but they also helped us think through options and build in contingencies and customizations. Jeremy was our project manager, and he was frequently onsite and when he was not, there was nearly seamless communication between him and the team. Every team member on-site was thoughtful, courteous, skilled, and seemed to take pride in the outcome and ensuring a good process. Finally, not only is Jeremy perhaps the most patient guy I’ve ever met, but we truly enjoyed working with him and valued his input and guidance on decisions for the project and his partnership throughout the process. There were a couple times when we were evaluating adding an option, and his perspective was the benefit wasn’t worth the cost, or he had a recommendation on what he thought would really make a visual impact, all to help ensure we were investing where it mattered and would get the best result. We could not be more thrilled with the outcome, and we frequently get asked who did such beautiful work.

I recently contracted The Narrow Lane for my lawn maintenance based on recommendations from a friend and I've been nothing but impressed. I reached out to 6 landscapers before contracting with them and what was clear from the outset is that Ron, the owner of The Narrow Lane, puts a BIG premium on making sure his customers are satisfied. From the first email I sent him, Ron has been incredibly responsive, helpful, and knowledgeable. He is proactive and thorough. His team did a great job with spring cleanup and even went above and beyond to make sure that the job was done well and without disruption to the neighbors. Looking forward to working with them this year and seeing my lawn come to life!

Ron was referred to me by a tree company I’ve known and trusted for years. Ron and Narrow Lane did not disappoint. From my first call to reception to my interactions with Ron and eventually with his crew, I found them to be courteous, responsive, professional and knowledgeable. I just finished a project with Alison and the team at The Narrow Lane, and am absolutely thrilled with the results. My property has a very steep slope to it (the first floor at the front of the house is a full story up at the back of the house), and I wanted to integrate the front yard with the back yard in a better way. The Narrow Lane's talented crew demolished a decrepit old concrete staircase on one side of the yard and built a beautiful stone masterpiece in its place (that you can actually walk down without taking your life into your hands), and transformed an unused area underneath my back deck into what is going to be a shady little oasis in the summer. They installed fencing in the front and side yard and connected it to existing fencing in the back yard, so that my aging dog could access the whole yard from the front of the house since he can no longer make it down the full flight of stairs off my back deck. Alison made great design recommendations on new plantings and hardscaping materials, and she was incredibly patient with me through a couple of unexpected twists and turns that impacted the project. My only regret is that I didn't do this a long time ago and that I now have to wait until we get through a Boston winter before I can really take full advantage of everything that they did! All in all, a great experience and I can't recommend The Narrow Lane highly enough.

The Narrow Lane has done such beautiful work! I’ve been to quite a few of their projects and I’m always amazed at the way they can utilize a space to create exactly what the client wants, both in architecture and feeling. We hired the Narrow Lane Company for a yard design of our small backyard in Cambridge. We had a really excellent experience. They came and measured our yard to get exact dimensions and listened to our needs and requests. We were provided with two versions of potential layouts, both of which were amazing. It was very detailed and each layout took into account our specific needs of the space and design. I attached an example picture of what were provided, tailored exactly to our space. We really wanted pictures to get a sense of what it would look like and it looks great!

I hired the Narrow Lane to help me with a landscape design for my yard and I am thrilled with the plan they created for me! I moved into a new construction home recently and the yard is a completely blank slate. I don't have the budget to hire landscapers to do everything for me so I want to do much of the labor myself. However, I am a novice gardener so I wanted help envisioning a design and pointing me in the right direction. I filled out the consultation form on their website, and the owner Ron reached out promptly to schedule a call and discuss my needs. I had debated going with a virtual design company such as Yardzen, but after speaking with Ron, I knew I made the right choice going with a local company. Ron and the landscape designer Alison came out to my property to get a feel for the space and understand my vision. I showed them inspiration pictures and what elements I wanted for the yard. They also had someone come out and take exact measurements of the property. Alison is a true artist! She understood my vision and created beautiful 2D and 3D renderings for me to reference. She also listed all of the plants and materials I will need and exactly where to put them. For $1500, I think this is a great deal, and I am very happy with the excellent services they provided (Yardzen charges about the same and they don't have someone come out in person)! Alison also offered to go to the plant store with me this summer and pick out plants together. The whole team is super professional and they seemed really excited to work on this project with me! I highly recommend the Narrow Lane.

We bought a new property and decided to do a major renovation to our yard. The entire outside property needed work, and Ron from the Narrow Lane delivered. He was able to help us with a lot of issues, installed some up lighting, gave us a beautiful heated driveway, and planted a lot of plants to help fill things out.

In addition, the crew are very friendly. Extremely pleasant company to work with.

We really love the work the narrow lane did to replace our front lawn with more drought resistant plants. It looks beautiful and we love to sit out on the front porch and watch the bees buzzing around on our flowers. My wife and I worked with The Narrow Lane in Summer and Fall 2023 on an extensive landscaping and hardscaping project. The crew was meticulous and did a fantastic job redesigning our backyard and patio area, installing an outdoor kitchen and new brickwork. They successfully fixed water issues we’d had and installed sod across both the front and backyard, keeping in mind the urgency with rainstorms and our sloped property.

We can’t say enough good things about Jeremy and Jat, who managed our project and addressed any concerns over the course of the project. We highly recommend using The Narrow Lane and look forward to continued work with the team.

We worked with the Narrow Lane to completely renovate and redesign our lot after a major construction project.
The landscape architect (Alison Williams) was a pleasure to work with; she is very professional, creative and attentive to our requirements and came up with a final design that perfectly compliments the lot and the house as a whole.
