Rong Yang, the technician who visited my place, was thorough in his checks and made an effort to consider various possibilities for why my Climatemaster 816 wasn't cooling. He explained what he saw when I asked him about it, which was helpful. His main issue was that the reversing valve wasn't switching between heating and cooling properly, potentially leading to another problem with the compressor. Since replacing just the valve would require recharging the coolant - a rare and now-illegal refrigerant for my unit (R22) - he suggested replacing the entire unit instead. Now I'm waiting on a quote and hoping it's competitive.
