EDIT: Five days ago I left a review for Colonial Electric Supply about their retina-searing light show. They fixed it within 24 hours.
I have since resurfaced from a deep, uninterrupted, pre-industrial sleep that hasn't been seen in Philadelphia since the Continental Congress clocked out. The skyline is back, the night is mercifully dark, and Ben Franklin’s kite can finally relax. This historically reliable, family-run company noted the problem, fixed it fast, and didn’t make it weird.
Now, back to our dreams and nightmares. Long live Philadelphia. Go Birds.

Colonial Electric Supply: A Beacon of Liberty
Philadelphia gave the world independence, democracy, and the radical idea that power should be checked. Directly across from my home stands Colonial Electric Supply, a company with a proud, century-long history of distributing electrical products and, more recently, distributing light directly into my soul through a revolutionary electrical uprising.
Philadelphia. A city that once rebelled against unchecked power and now lives across from it— Colonial Electric’s exterior lights flick on, unsheathed, unbothered by gravity, physics, or basic courtesy, blasting illumination in every conceivable direction except down.
This was hardly tolerable when the lights were merely on. However, for the past three weeks, the situation has escalated from “industrial glow” to “experimental lighthouse rave.” The lights now glitch, blink, and strobe all night long. Not rhythmically. Not artistically. Possibly in Morse code, broadcasting to the cosmos “WE SELL ELECTRICITY. ALL OF IT.”
Which, to be clear, no one doubts. Colonial has excellent lighting. Phenomenal even. Historically good. Powerful enough it appears to be summoning Ben Franklin’s kite back from the heavens.
It's impressive. And yet, here we are, living inside what feels like an unpaid beta test for the sun.
In conclusion: Colonial Electric Supply is a titan of the electrical distribution industry and an absolute menace to circadian rhythms. Please, I beg you— aim the lights downward, fix the strobing, and allow the rest of us to enjoy the Philadelphia skyline without feeling like collateral damage in an electrical spectacle.
You’ve proven you have the power.
Now please show restraint. Even the Founding Fathers believed in limits. -
