I contacted A&E HVAC to service my main unit. The diagnostic process took hours to complete (1st red flag). After several hours trying to determine why my A/C wasn’t blowing cold air, they concluded that I needed a new evaporator and Freon, stating that the unit was frozen. Due to my lack of knowledge, I accepted their findings, trusting them as professionals.
Unfortunately, my units were not registered with Carrier, so I was responsible for both parts and labor. During our conversation about pricing, the technician (who was also the owner) stated that I could either replace the evaporator for about $4,700 or consider replacing the entire unit for around $11,000 to get a warranty. I immediately declined, knowing that my units were only five years old. The owner then informed me it would take at least 38 days to receive the part since my model was discontinued.
Again, having no knowledge of the process, I agreed to move forward. Fast forward, I received a call advising that the part had arrived, and they were ready to install it. I was apprehensive about taking time off work but had no choice as they claimed they were booked. I was supposed to be their first appointment at 9:30 a.m. I asked how long the job would take and was told it wouldn’t take long.
After several hours passed, I asked again how much longer it would be, but still received no clear answer. It became evident they had no definitive answer because they were charging by the hour and were incompetent about what was actually wrong with my system. Several more hours went by, and they connected a machine to my condenser, saying it takes time to release all the air. While this was supposedly happening, they left to grab lunch.
Upon their return, they realized the evaporator wasn’t the issue. I was then told the problem was my condenser. I reminded them this was not what we initially discussed and that I wasn’t spending any more money. The owner then gave me an analogy, saying, “It’s like when you take your car to be repaired, and they tell you one thing, but it turns out to be something else.” I responded by telling him not to compare a car repair with his misdiagnosis. I immediately regretted calling them and, even more so, paying them for their incompetence. I was angry and frustrated with the entire ordeal.
After some heated words, the owner said he could call around for pricing on a new condenser and install it for free. The following day, I received a text stating it would cost about $1,620 to replace the condenser. By then, I had already decided I didn’t want them working on anything else for me.
Desperate to get my A/C repaired, I reached out to a colleague, who referred me to an internal contractor. Despite being booked, this company found a way to send a technician out to diagnose the problem. He was here for less than 45 minutes and informed me that, while he couldn’t confirm whether I needed the new evaporator (since it had already been installed), my real issue was the TXV, and I did not need a new condenser. I asked if I’d have to wait 30-60 days for delivery due to my system being discontinued, and he said, “Oh no, we have that part in stock. Not sure why you waited so long for the evaporator.”
The next day, the technician returned and installed the TXV. My air conditioner is now working as expected.
The entire experience with A&E HVAC was stressful and costly, and the issues I hired them to fix were never resolved. As I mentioned earlier, I deeply regret choosing this company and will never use their services again or recommend them to anyone. -
A&E Heating were very fast to respond and did a superb job assessing and resolving issues with our HVAC damper. Prompt and reliable service. We will consider Alvin for routine maintenance to keep our HVAC system in good condition.

My ac compressor went out a few weeks ago. Most places claimed they could not fix it. Some claimed I needed an entire new unit. I reviewed A&E and called them based on their reviews. Well all the reviews are spot on. Alvin came out and fixed it. Very professional. He will communicate with you. He will answer your call or text. I am extremely happy with his expertise and my ac is working and cooling. I couldn't be any happier to find an honest company and I will definitely use them again. Thank you Alvin for taking care of me

I would highly recommend him and his services! Thank you Alvin for fixing something that 6 other techs and a year of waiting could not. Thank you, thank you!!

We have used A&E Heating and Air since moving to Arlington. Unfortunately, the previous owner did not perform routine maintenance on anything in the 5 years they lived here. A few months after moving in, the downstairs unit's drain was clogged and wasn't cooling properly. I found A&E on Angie. Alvin contacted me immediately and came out as soon as he could.
He unclogged the drain and then meticulously went over both the upstairs and downstairs systems and got them running properly.
He has been maintaining both systems since.
We have him out twice a year for both Spring and Fall checkups. He is always polite, friendly, and professional. He also takes the time to explain what he's doing and why. AND, he cleans up after himself. Not a lot of service people do that as you know.
His pricing is reasonable and we are not only very happy with his work but regularly recommend him to our friends and neighbors.
Truly, A&E deserves a 5 star rating. -
Mr.Alvin was great, came shortly after i called. He was very informative, professional and quick with his service and also fair with pricing. I will be recommending his services in the future

They were quick to respond and diagnose the issue with our AC unit when I went out in the heat of June. However, when I saw the invoice I realized they had charge $375 a piece for two parts that should have been $10-20 each. They really took advantage of a new homeowner and distracted mom at home with her two young children. When I reached out about they issue, communication was awful. They barely replied and dodged all my questions about part costs. I wouldn't use these guys unless you want to be swindled with a 35x upcharge on parts so they can line their pockets dishonestly.

The experience with this company and Alvin was beyond disgusting. This is why homeowners and business owners don't trust these trades. I called Alvin and asked him to come out to my business because the condensation line for the HVAC unit was clogged and the safety switch had failed. He assured me he would come out today, which he did. One of the barbers at the barbershop text me and said Alvin said it was $525. I did not want our clients or my barbers without working AC so I said ok. I was waiting for Alvin to give me a call or text letting me know his findings and what was done to remedy the issue. Instead of receiving a text from Alvin with the findings and what was done I was greeted with you can zelle me the money to this number. I had to ask what did he find, what was done and is there a warranty. Long story short, I was charged $525 for Alvin to drain water from drain pan and unclog the condensation line. To my surprise, this did not include fixing the safety switch (another $275) that I told him failed hence the reason I called him. As another 1 star review was left three days ago about their price goughing tactics I would have to agree that anyone that comes across this company please stay away. You will thank me later. You try to support small businesses like this but they are just as greedy as the major companies. One more thing to add. If a contractor asks to be paid via zelle/cash a red flag should go up. They should send invoices and take credit/debit cards like every other reputable business.
