Great design work.

I put the artificial grass in my side yard in West University. I now have the nicest yard on the street, My kids love it, my neighbors love it, and we love it. Thanks to Matt and his team.

After looking high and low for a truly outstanding landscaping, design and maintenance service, we finally found it at Lanson B. Jones. We started with the maintenance first and then have moved into design and implementation.

Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of getting to know Karen McGowan, Client Relations Director, Jim Jech, Landscape Architect, Jacob Pratel, Project Manager, Christian Rivas, Field Operations Manager, Carl Walsh and Maria Wenzel, Installation Supervisor, ALL have been the utmost professionals at every level.

The two people that I have had the most contact and worked with most directly are Karen McGowan and Jacob Pratel. They both have been outstanding in guiding the process from start to execution, to completion.

This is clearly a firm that I recommend because they deliver beyond expectations.

Lanson B. Jones & Co. is a professional and creative company. They endeavor to reflect the desires of the client, combined with the company's knowledge of beauty through their careful selection of plants which flourish in Houston's ever changing climate. Standing behind their work is their goal of satisfying the customer.

Lanson B. Jones has an aesthetic discernment and design talent that is hard to find. Hired to tackle the most problematic features of our landscape, he did not disappoint. Careful consideration was given to home design, hardscape, sitting areas, plant choice, and maintenance needs. Lanson exceeded expectations - he transformed the proverbial ugly duckling into a swan. We love our garden!

Jim Jech is an outstanding landscape architect. We have been calling on Jim for the last 18 years and he recently redesigned our front landscaping and it is beautiful. The team at Lanson B. Jones is professional, polite, hard-working and great at what they do. Recommend them highly! They also have an events department which recently did flowers for my daughter's graduation party. Extraordinary arrangements!

Lanson and his team transformed our backyard from a typical yard into a resort style fantasy outdoor space. Day to day we interfaced with Maria, who is excellent, responsive and bright. They took us from the design to completion with the utmost care and diligence. They always made us feel that our job was top priority and that they were invested in it's success. Our design originated as a simple fireplace with patio. Then we decided we wanted to add a pool with specific dimensions etc. They accommodated and built for us a beautiful fireplace, pool, synthetic lawn (which we love) And Pareterre herb garden. Life is too short to not have an outdoor space you can enjoy. We are so happy we went with Lanson's team and we enjoy our outdoor space everyday.

Both Lanson and Nasi worked very hard to bring the vision that my husband and I had for our yard to life. Even though we have a small space, they took great care to listen to our thoughts and come back with wonderful suggestions and even more great ideas! They were very responsive and kept us up-to-date on any orders, delays, etc. And all of the workmen were very professional. I highly recommend Lanson B. Jones & Co. for your landscaping project.

We worked with Lanson B. Jones Company to plan and implement a soft, flowing garden that was child and family friendly throughout our yard in Friendswood. They listened to our ideas and were wonderful to work with. They incorporated our playhouse and trampoline into the plans. Rachel was an excellent project manager, responding quickly our issues during implementation. Great experience.

We hired Lanson to develop a European-style garden for our yard in Houston. We were specifically interested in something that would provide a pleasant environment during the winter months as this would be the main time we would be in Houston. Lanson took great care to listen to our needs and then met with us several times during the developmental stage. He was also good at suggesting and showing us examples of design elements that we would not have thought of on our own. When it came time to implement the design Lanson’s entire team was extremely professional to the point of perfection. The end result was exactly what we had envisioned and we could not be more pleased. We now use his maintenance team (led by Christian) to aid us in the continued growth and development of our small scale European garden. We highly recommend Lanson for anyone who desires to work with someone who has a passion for what they do as it will result in a unique, beautiful and well thought out landscape plan for their home.

There are numerous "landscape architects" in Houston who have access to extensive plant materials and the knowledge of what grows best and how to plant and care for it. However, in my experience, Lanson Jones brings something more to the field. He has the "eye." He clearly has a feel for asymmetry which may bring out the best in your landscape when planting two ornamental trees beside each other instead of spaced. He instinctively recognizes, for example, that the chairs at a round table in the yard look best when placed canted and that a small garden area should follow the contours of a curving cement bench. In contrast, many so described "landscape architects" are knowledgeable master gardeners. Lanson Jones is a true landscape architect.

This is been the worst company we have ever dealt with. We were so excited for the architectural design that Jim drew up. We did not know at the time that they had no idea how to manage and supervise a landscaping project. The estimated time frame of 3.5 months turned into a year. Our project is big but straightforward. It became increasingly clear that our project manager had no idea what he was doing. He stopped coming months before he quit. We met with the owner and other team members 6 months ago and they assured us that everything would be completed efficiently. That did not happen. We gave them a to do list of all the outstanding items. They cannot schedule their subs. When they do schedule them, we’re lucky if they come within the same month of the scheduled day. We have our own jobs to do and we have to wait for workers who never arrive. When the workers are finally here, we have to manage them because our Project Manager is never here. Our pool permits expired because the project took too long. No one followed up and we had to contact the permitting offices and gas to get the pool approved. The whole process has been unbelievable. Literally, no one believes us that we put up with this for so long.

I want to like these guys, but I just can't. We have paid them premium prices for years, and somehow the performance and service just continues to get worse. Lots of promises, lots of fluff, followed by poor or non-existent execution. Something must be really wrong internally at this company, as we have watched it nose-dive in recent years. You can't get them to do anything they promise to do, much less on time. But rest assured, the premium-priced billing continues. I would strongly recommend against Lanson B Jones & Co at this time (coming from a 6+ year customer).

Do not waste your time or money with this firm. The designs look good in one dimension on paper but don't work in reality. They don't have the staff or ability to execute their designs and the company is disorganized. Paid a premium for high end work and got nothing but headaches, delays and things that didn't work for the front or back yard. It is a cluster experience that will make you want to pull your hair out. Check out Hogue Landscape Service. Hired them after LBJ and they have been amazing. Also used F&G in the past; they do really good work but very, very expensive and Hogue's work is every bit as good.

After a little more than a year of paying for premium service, we have received anything but. From plants that were planted when we originally re-landscaped our yard that died and never replaced (despite being under warranty) to asking for someone just to come out and address our concerns for months and being put off at every turn such that it still hasn’t happened, the company seems to not have enough employees to handle their commitments. Weekly crew is good at doing the regular maintenance but customer service and responsiveness is sorely lacking to say the least.

I would not recommend this company.
Despite promises of high quality work, the outcome is unsatisfactory. Poor execution, no or very slow response from front office and project manager, unresolved issues, no accountability, and missed deadlines. Please save your money and look to other companies for your landscape design and service needs.
