Good customer service starts with the person answering the phone. The woman I talked to had a set script: Get the potential customer's info. Evade any questions about price. Book an appointment ASAP. She was incapable of giving even a broad price range for the task of installing a ceiling fan. She could only repeat that she herself wasn't an electrician so she couldn't "throw out a random number."

For anyone in customer service: A price range is not "a random number." It is based on data that any legitimate company has.

Try this script instead: "Our very simplest jobs cost around X hundred. Older wiring, joists that can't handle the needed weight, and other factors add to the cost. It's not common, but the very most complex jobs we've done were as much as X thousand. But our pricing is competitive compared to other electricians, we give an exact price before starting the work, and you're under no obligation to have us proceed after we give the estimate."
