Northwood Construction, Inc. came to our rescue after a triple-botched shower replacement left us with water damage and a lovely hole in our laundry room ceiling before COVID shutdown. After researching home remodelers through Checkbook and other sources, we carefully selected Northwood to completely remodel our large master bathroom. We quickly grew to trust Bob and Whitney during the design and selection phase and knew that waiting for their crew to start work was the right choice. They provided us with a detailed scope of work broken out by phase and by trade partners’ work, detailed layout plans showing demolition, build out, electrical, plumbing, and painting plans. Bathrooms require an overwhelming number of bits and pieces; Whitney, Bob, and my husband and I went to plumbing, lighting, granite, and tiling suppliers. Whitney was always prompt, professional, organized, and guided us through the selection process. I overwhelmed easily and she was reassuring and able to describe the different end “look and feel” of each choice. Each of their subcontractors come to a walk through to review what they need to do and verify that the work can be done as planned. We had a steam shower installed, so we had some special considerations for plumbing, tiling, and glass surround. During the project, we used CoConstruct online to help with tracking progress, selections, change orders, finances, and questions/messages. Financials are dealt with professionally and are predictable based on milestones. Our master bath is a huge improvement over the original and we are extremely happy we chose Northwood Construction.

Northwood just helped us with a big upstairs remodel where we had our horrible stipple ceilings removed, replastered, and painted; complete recarpeting; repainted hallway, 3 bedrooms, hallway/foyer, and master closet repainted; as well as carpentry to remove a platform in our master bedroom, removed fittings in master closet and updated it with lighting and outlets. It was a huge effort on our part to move everything and set up a bedroom on the main level during the project. We worked with Whitney again and Matt was our Lead Carpenter acting as the general contractor. Matt’s always courteous, helpful, and professional in both manner and skill; he kept us informed of his expected arrival time and any variations in timeline. He kept us informed of the painting crew’s activities and schedule. We did have an issue with some water leakage into our dining room, and the repair work was just completed for us without complaint and in a very reasonable period. All went well and our upstairs looks great thanks to Northwood.

Northwood Construction is simply top-notch. We have used them for new construction as well as major renovations and they always hit the mark with A+++. Not only are they completely competent, but they are really nice folks.

Bob had me at Hello. I find him to be a consummate professional with an excellent team of people working for him. I interviewed a few others just for due diligence but ultimately hired him and his team to do a two story bump out and two bathroom overhaul on our home. Their work was high caliber, they were courteous, diligent, finished on time. I liked their work so much I had them come out a year later to do a major kitchen, eat in area remodel. Again, their work was excellent.

I recently had a kitchen, and three bathrooms renovated by Northwood. I really cannot say enough good things about them. It was really the first time I hired a general contractor and expected top quality craftsmanship, and that is exactly what I got. Additionally, I would say that renovation is quite a bit different from new construction. It really takes a different skill level to come in and rip out and upgrade a home without destroying it, and also being sensitive to the fact that you are living in the construction site. Northwood has superb communication skills, and is always attentive to any concern you voice. This is exactly the attitude you need on the part of the contractor because it can be an unsettling experience if you hire the wrong person for this type of work. Basically, don't hire a contractor you can't live with, literally, and Northwood is a company I can trust.

Northwood Construction recently added a Family Room on to my house. The entire process was seamless, from the first visit by Bob to discuss the plans and take measurements, to the estimate process and construction schedule. Bob kept in constant contact with me and once Don was on-site there was daily communication. Northwood Construction did an outstanding job....finishing on-time and on budget! I would highly recommend Northwood Construction!

We've had Northwood handle three projects for us now - our kitchen, family room and now a bathroom. They may not be the lowest bidder on any job, but keep in mind that you get what you pay for. They use high quality materials, and their workmanship and attention to detail are meticulous. We have never had a problem with any of their work, even years after the fact! We also trust them in our home, and have never felt that we needed to remain on site to monitor them. They also choose subcontractors who are up to their standards, and provide equally excellent work. We have no hesitation about recommending Northwood Construction.

We highly recommend Northwood for your next project. Northwood just finished the third project for us and we are so happy with their work. Everyone on the Northwood team is easy to work with and they all have an eye for the details. Communication with them is streamlined with their on-line project management/communication tool, and they always respond to questions/concerns promptly. Every project has been finished on time and the work is outstanding. They are courteous, professional and respectful of being in your home. We’ve found that Northwood Construction is not “your average construction” company. Here’s why:

After about 15 years of weather, the four columns on the front of our house badly needed to be replaced. We absolutely hate the prospect of dealing with construction companies and procrastinated to the point that the columns were about ready to collapse. We spent months talking to (and rejecting) various highly-rated construction firms – and then we found Northwood Construction – and we are extremely pleased with both the work and the process.

Bob Benedict patiently worked with us to get the exact look we wanted. We were impressed that Bob spent as much time as he did to get the exact look and “low-maintenance” results we wanted. He provided design recommendations and drawings that let us select exactly the style we wanted and he precisely matched the existing paint color of the porch.

Don and Chris started and finished all work exactly as they said they would, cleaned up the work site better than it was when work began, and the final price was exactly the price quoted (which we already knew was a good, competitive price). We felt that everyone at Northwood put us first in designing, scheduling, and completing the work – and we could not be happier.

We’re so impressed with Northwood that we want them to convert our carport into a garage – a project we’ve put off for years. We look forward to working with Bob and the crew to finalize the garage design (I never thought I’d ever say that about a construction company)!

Five stars doesn't cut it honestly, they deserve much more! The quality of their work is amazing and their staff is awesome to work with. I've photographed their projects for years and we finally had the opportunity to hire them to renovate our bathrooms. I couldn't be happier with the result! They were on top of all of my requests, they had a schedule and stuck with it and they were very knowledgeable and communicative throughout the entire process. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for construction work!

We interviewed 6 different contractors to renovate our basement for aging in place, designated as an ALU (Accessory Living Unit) in Fairfax county.

We chose the Northwood construction, Inc. Their fee was reasonable, not the lowest nor the highest.

We did not have to pay up to 10K for the designer fees as in other contractors' proposal. Tran, the Northwood designer, worked fast and diligently with all the drawings,dimensions,selections of cabinets,counter top,tiles,etc.
We texted Tran very late in the evening or weekend with our concerns, questions. She always replied right away. To her, client's satisfaction is very important. Thumb up for her work.

Charlie, the Northwood main staff for my basement project, is a conscientious, knowledgeable and hard worker. He meticulously put in all the needed wood blockings during the framing of the bathroom walls so he could install all the grab bars and the wall hung shower seat. So, as we get older and we must use the grab bars, we will feel safe because they were installed correctly to the blockings behind the walls. Our ALU passed all Fairfax county inspections. We truly appreciate Charlie's workmanship.

Our basement project started and finished on time as planned.

We are very please with the results.

We just finished a complete kitchen renovation (full gut) with Northwood and it was a great experience. From the first walk with Bob and Tran through final completion with Charlie, the entire Northwood team was professional, detail-focused, etc., etc., everything you want in your contractor. We're super happy with the end product and highly recommend Northwood for anyone with a renovation in mind.

Northwood Construction just completed a major remodel and exterior upgrade to our home. This is the second remodel project that Bob Benedict and his team have done for us. Bob’s team is comprised of talented individuals that are skilled in many tradecrafts, are professionals in all aspects of customer service, and who honor and complete their projects on time and on budget. They are courteous, punctual, meticulous, and a pleasure to work with. Bob’s team and very capable subcontractors are what made our projects so successful. Our most recent project involved a complete remodel of an upstairs master bathroom and guest bath. We expanded the project to include a complete upgrade to the exterior with new siding and windows. The transformation of our home has been amazing. We were actively involved in all decision making and our questions promptly answered and addressed. We would not hesitate to have Northwood Construction back in our home for future renovations.

We couldn’t be any happier with how our project turned out, thanks to the fantastic crew of Northwood; from Bob, to Whitney, to Tran, to Dan, we had a fantastic relationship with each of them and the roles they played in the process of designing, construction, modifications, and communication. There is absolutely nothing we would want changed from how the kitchen turned out. We got to have all aspects of it exactly as we wanted and are looking forward to enjoying it for many years to come. We’ve had a number of different experiences with other contractors for different services and work. The communications, quality of the work, attention to detail, and respect Northwood had for our home were unmatched. We’d love to work with them again.

After interviewing a few other construction companies we chose Northwood Construction to do our home renovation. It was an extensive renovation, kitchen as well as addition of a bathroom.
The project began and ended within the time frame given. There were no surprises, we were kept informed at every step as to when and what would happen next. The responsiveness to questions and concerns was immediate! There were meetings as the project progressed to address concerns or just talk about the project. The Northwood designer was very helpful, making appointments for us with vendors and assisting us with selections. Our project manager was at our house each day to complete his work as well make sure the project was on schedule. We appreciated that Northwood made every effort to lessen the impact of construction as we continued to live in our home.

Northwood is an excellent construction/remodeling company. They do well on all of the key criteria: 1)They did the work for the exact price they promised 2)They finished the work *ahead* of the schedule they promised 3)The quality of the work itself was excellent. In addition, the integrity of the folks we worked with was without blemish. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

Our experience with Northwood was bar-none! We underwent a major kitchen renovation combined with re-flooring our entire first floor in one project.

Very quickly, it became clear to us that the customer experience is their number one priority. Thanks to their amazing creative designer Whitney, we now have our dream kitchen in a design we never could have come up with on our own. We totally reorganized the whole layout and it looks better than we could have ever dreamed!

We had on-site visits from the owner Bob Benedict, who wanted to personally check on the progress and ensure the project was right from the start...which wasn't even a question with our Project Manager Morgan. He was incredible. We literally didn't worry about a thing. He even came on Thanksgiving morning to get our drywall completed so that our schedule didn't get delayed. He was there every morning like clockwork working his butt off to get the kitchen ready for us by Christmas - and he did! It was a Christmas miracle :) Morgan's attention to detail and utter care for every square inch of our home was impeccable. He laid down floor protection and dust barriers and cleaned up his workspace every night. Not only did we feel so lucky to have him, but our three dogs looked forward to running downstairs every morning to shower him with kisses knowing fully well he had treats for them later. We will 1000% use Northwood again for our other home improvement projects. We cannot recommend them enough!!!

Northwood just completed a 256 square foot studio in our backyard. Northwood both designed and build it. We couldn't be happier with the process and the results. Everyone was pleasant to work with, and they were always available to answer any question. We selected Northwood from our experience with them on other projects around our house. We've found they do the highest quality work and truly stand behind it. The work crew was great, as were all the subcontractors. And someone from Northwoods was present at all times a subcontractor was working. They were also quick to offer suggestions whenever problems arose. We highly recommend Northwood Construction for any home project, large or small.

Had Bob and his design team design/plan updates to front and back exterior residential home. Excellent design and execution. Price reasonable and Dan Clark was excellent to work with. No issues and he made suggestions throughout the small project. Took minor vacation during project and as always Northwood was fantastic.

Unless you want a big job done don't bother with these guys.
