Like everything else in life, there are no perfect contractors. These days things cost far more than you anticipate. Those things said just in the past two weeks I contracted Beacon Electrical to replace an ancient central breaker box as well as restore electricity to a corner of my home. Cost me roughly $10000. To me that's a lot of money. Now to the positive points: First, by far was my point of contact and the person who performed the diagnostics, provided me with an accurate and fair estimate, and did most of the work. Like me, Zach is a Veteran of our armed forces and even as a civilian he personifies the values that our best troops possess. He is honest, competent, personable, affable, and a person of his word. I hope whoever owns Beacon has the insight to fully appreciate Zach's qualities and the immensity of tangible and intangible factors that he brings to his company. Thank you Zach and thank you Briscoe his apprentice.

Beacon Electric out of Tacoma, showed up and I cannot thank them enough! Would highly recommend the electrician duo Nick and Mike who worked continuously to get my power back on over the holiday weekend, as they battled the freezing temperatures knowing I was without heat. I was their last call on Saturday (9p emergency) and I will share a little more about my story below for those who want a little more context about my experience. I even talked to the shop owner Bill during the process of getting my power turned back on, who affirmed what Nick and Mike were doing is part of their culture which I'll admit was nervous of after reading some reviews. (But as I reflected on the reviews, many had no context hence my effort in sharing my personal experience for those who may find themselves in a similar situation like I did.)
Saturday, around 4p, I begin to lose power to my 220 outlets and my heat pump. Not a single breaker was tripped, so I was freaking out. Begin to call around in desperation and the Beacon shop out of Tacoma said they could send a couple guys out before end of the day. Guys arrived by 9pm (couple hours after requesting them on a holiday weekend.) They had me sign some paperwork before they begin diagnostics. Within minutes, Nick had identified the problem and the risk it posed, and requested emergency shut off of my power. Main line had arced and fried my main breaker, posing a serious fire risk. Beacon had told me to stop messing with the panel before they arrived and thank god they did.
Incredibly grateful I dodged a bullet, I quickly had to consider a new issue no power posed. My only heat source is electric and we were forecasted to drop below freezing for the next 4 nights.
Without me knowing, Nick and Mike had already made some calls to a few folks to source some generators and a heaters, to help me get through the next few nights as there was a lot of work that was going to have to be done. Not only did they source the equipment, Nick and Mike made the rounds to pick them up and set them up at my place. The duo did not leave until around 1-2a in the morning.
Sunday, the duo was out right away in the morning to assess the work that was going to have to be completed. They brought extra fuel, wired up my hotwater to a generator (so I could run hot water through my house and take a shower!) and prepped to work on the repairs all Monday. In addition, they hooked up a separate generator so I could run my home office. (No power had caused a backlog where I worked, and these guys came up with a solution to help me)
Monday (holiday), again the duo made sure I was comfortable with the heaters and generators before they started work. The team worked on bringing my 1940's home up to code all day until the night. Work was completed and ready for connection 2 days after the panel fire. Unfortunately it was a holiday so there was a premium to reconnect through my service provider, so Nick and Mike made sure to top off all the fuel before they left so I could make it one more night in the house without power. (I am cheap)
Tuesday Morning, local service provider arrived at 9:30a and approved my reconnection and my power was back on. Nick and Mike tested system and made sure everything was working as intended before leaving (Turned every dang light on and plugged in anything we could find to test). They took all the old material and conduit that was scrapped with them (I did not clean a thing), swept my deck where the work was done, and made it clear I could call them anytime if something were to happen after the repairs.
In an emergency, Beacon showed up and did me right. Wouldn't hesitate to call them again. Guys definitely built some trust with me, especially as a first time home owner learning all this stuff for the first time. -
After reaching out to this company about a receptacle not working in our office, my wife was relieved to have power back without any fuss. Their team handled the repair efficiently and with great care.

Rude people. Ripped my off for 500 and won’t supply copies of the work they charged for because it wasn’t done. Dont use Beacon unless you like being robbed and mistreated.

DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. They are extremely shady in their practices. When I called to ask them the price to look at an issue where my microwave was setting off my breaker they told me it would be $75 to come out and look at the problem, I then proceeded to ask them how much it would be after this. The guy on the phone told me they would give me a quote before doing any work. I agreed, when they showed up they told me it wasn't in fact $75 to diagnose the problem it was actually an additional $389 and they would not even look at anything until I agreed to this price and signed this price.
No where on the initial phone call was this mentioned whatsoever and it was stated on this paper that all of a sudden the $75 was not for a diagnosis but actually for a "travel fee" which was also not mentioned when I initially asked the price. After spending barely any time at my home they then told me they guessed the issue was the microwave (which I had initially said was the issue on the first phone call) and they don't deal with appliances so I needed to call an appliance person. They charged me $450 to tell me a diagnosis that they "guessed was a microwave".
This business is shady and careful with their words deliberately in order to not actually give you a real cost of what it is to diagnose a problem. If the initial person on the phone told me they didn't deal with appliances I would not have even had them come out in the first place and on top of that they lied about the price.
After contacting the manager the next morning regarding this they said they'd be back in touch on Monday which never happened. Tuesday at 8PM - a different person calls to tell me once again the problem is my microwave. They have ZERO customer service and until I reported them to the BBB they seemed as though they wanted nothing to do with this.
It is very clear they are misleading and not honest about their practices and I would never recommend their services to anyone ever. -
Needed a dedicated 240V/40AMP circuit/breaker with a new box. Charged 3600 for what should have been a 2000 on the ultra high end job. Will not use again.

Same story as many. I was told a trip/ diagnostic fee would be charged and then the price skyrocketed to diagnose once they arrived. Recommended that an entire water heater be replaced or sensors replaced when my initial call was for a gfci to be checked . Had theee more people out and nothing was wrong with the water heater ( needed its annual maintenance which was 200). They charged me 601 to do absolutely nothing accept misdiagnose an issue without even looking at the gfci. I’ve had no issues since the maintenance was done and gfci fixed ( 480 total). I was assured I’d get this handled by a manager yet here I am out all of that money. I am waiting to hear back from BBB and an attorney . This is ridiculous 3500 or 8000 were the two options I was given and neither was needed
