Hired Rob in early summer and his design and attention to detail was clear from day one. He completely remodeled our patio, driveway and landscaping. Rob stayed on budget and his design added things we didn’t even consider including a very cool gas fireplace. Rob also stayed in budget to what he quoted and completed the job in the time stated. He also helped with small post demo follow ups I had. Thanks Rob!

Rob and his crew did an outstanding and beautiful redesign of my front yard. The pavers and lighting they installed are just gorgeous. Rob was great to work with, his crew were very courteous and did great job. I would highly recommend Desert Designer for any landscaping needs.

We contacted multiple landscape architects, who either didn’t return our calls after the initial meetings, or who designed plans that had nothing to do with what we asked for. Rob met us, listened to all the issues we wanted to address, and came back with a plan that was so much better than we could have imagined. Rob’s being there every day during installation also made it easy to discuss what was happening and make minor modifications. Rob has great design expertise and has a real sense of the land, view corridors, functional areas, etc. He simply stands above the completion in creativity, problem solving, open and friendly communication channels, and having skilled and dedicated workers who deliver the completed project on time. The finished front/back yards and courtyard are exquisite and we couldn’t be happier.

We bought a house in February, and met with Rob shortly after.

The pool needed to be remodeled completely, and the backyard was a total mess. My wife and I do not have any sort of creativity whatsoever, but Rob was extremely knowledgeable with what types of trees, plants, stone to use, and even our landscape lighting. We even upgraded our pool to have a water slide. In these crazy times of uncertainty, his communication was spot on. He always informed us when things were happening, and what to expect.

You can tell Rob has an extreme love for what he does, and his crews really exceeded our expectations!

Sadly our experience with Rob & Desert Designer Landscape and Development was not pleasant. Rob was very helpful & friendly until the sale was over. He knew we were snowbirds and took full advantage. The yard did look amazing for the most part but then while we were gone during the summer despite the expensive irrigation system he told us would take care of any worries several vines never grew and died. We reached out to him and here is the communication we received.

“ I received your email through our website about your plant. Your warranty on plants is for 120 days from the completion of your project. Your project completed 1/21/2021. You are out of warranty and were out of warranty when your husband contacted me at the end of last year.”

Typical bad shady business- in it for the fast buck. Make the sale & wash your hands of the customer & any follow up. We have since talked to others who have had excellent post sales experiences with very professional landscape designers even several years after their warranties expired. I hope we can help prevent at least one other customer from this sham of a salesperson & company

Now that our project is complete, I would like to update my below review. We love our yard. We need to have one part of the project completed around the spa, but we are still waiting to have the spa perfect first. We have some plants that are under warranty that will need to be replaced, but are waiting for cooler weather so they don't burn again. But we absolutely LOVE the final outcome. Had all the other drama not happened, I'm sure the experience would be extremely positive. Their team was great, and Sarah managed the entire project beautifully. She helped me think through every aspect and gave a resolution to my concerns.

Sarah, our designer, has been amazing, supportive, and helpful. Here was our issue. Wrote a large 50% check which wasn't deposited for 2 weeks. Company says there are insufficient funds. But that isn't true. They can show me nothing that shows insufficient funds, and my bank is stating they show nothing was cashed or declined. Had to put a stop payment on the original check (because there is no history of where it is now) and get a cashier check so there would be no further issues. Then, to just make it even worse, they told me that I need to pay the insufficient funds fee that can't be proven.

We are thrilled with the work that was completed on both the front and back yard. Our 1954 built house now looks modern and fits our family lifestyle. We have recommended Rob to multiple friends- their completed jobs are each uniquely designed. Great company to work with!

Rob and his team were amazing from start to finish! Rob had a great vision for our front yard remodel and did a great job explaining options as we worked through the design. His crew were unbelievable- so fast and efficient! The whole project was done in less than 5 days, which was incredible. We absolutely love our new front yard!! Definitely recommend!

I have been working in the backyard lately that Charlie Goodwin designed and built with his crew for us three years ago in 2020.

I wish I could put into words that would adequately describe how grateful I continue to be with his work. How the design opens the entire view of the golf course beyond the patio. The paver tile colors and the curves on the patio extend out from the stucco walls and carmel color of the house perfectly.

The two walkways are unique and connect the pathways to citrus trees and hidden fountain pump to the main patio. Not ordinary walkways—different materials that are functional and inviting in each one.

His talents are incredible. I’m so happy when I sit out here enjoying this beautiful space.

Rob designed the perfect backyard experience for our family. The pool now looks fantastic landscaping perfectly done and we now have a miniature putting course that the kids and the parents love.

This is the 3rd time I've hired Desert Designer to do a project for me (2 at previously owned homes). We completed a new build in May 2017 in Buckeye on bit of a hillside. I gave our designer, Cory, our inspirations for a zen backyard. It isn't a large yard and I wanted to create a calm relaxing space. Additionally, I wanted part of the yard to serve as a pollinator area for bees and butterflies. Cory came up with a fantastic solution. We went back and forth on a few of the details and he worked within our budget. The finished project is just as amazing as our prior projects. Thank you so much!!! Now, time to think about some work on the front yard.

When we purchased our home we had big plans to remodel our backyard. After speaking to several designers we decided to work with Rob Plowright from Desert Designers. He took all of our ideas and a bunch of his own to put a design together that turned out amazing. We needed someone who could work together with our pool company to ensure that everything was finished on time and on budget. Rob's team showed up on time and were there every day until the project was completed. I would recommend Rob and Desert Designers to anyone looking to transform their outdoor living space to something really special.

Design is right in the name and that's what sets Rob and his team apart. They came up with a significantly better design than we could have imagined and much better than the other companies we tried to work with. You have to be diligent to review work and ask for little fixes, but no more than with any other good contractor. They were responsive in fixing everything to my satisfaction with an exceptional final product.
UPDATE: Had a small leak develop somehow... Rob and his team came out and fixed everything under warranty as promised at the onset. You can trust Rob from the beginning all the way past completion! And we're still loving the wonderful new backyard :)

When it came time to finish the backyard of our newly constructed home, we began our search by attending multiple Home Shows. The choices we faced were many. Do we go with a one-stop shop pool company, a special general pool contractor that would coordinate all the work or look to hire a Landscaper and separate pool company? We decided to go with the latter choice.
We met Sarah Alton from Desert Designers at one of the shows and kept her card until we were ready. Our initial conversation with Sarah convinced us she wanted to give us the yard we wanted because she listened to what we wanted. She got excited when hearing our plan and put her creativity to work putting together an initial design. The first rendering wasn’t quite what we were looking for but we knew we were working with the right person and company. Sarah’s second rendering came back with all the elements we were looking for (a non-rectangular pool shape that we love, a bocci court and an antique Los Angeles Gas Street lamp that had belonged to my father). Additionally, there were other elements we couldn’t dream of because we didn’t know what was possible given our tight budget. Sarah showed us her designs and listened to our feedback and came back with redesigns that showed she listened to what we wanted. The final price landed on our budget number and Desert Designers was more than fair with some of the changes we made during construction. There was never an attempt to upsell us or talk us into anything other than what we wanted, which we greatly appreciated.

This was the first time we ever did a full backyard build. Our inexperience created some issues around some of the work that would need to be done by us. Working with two different companies basically made us the General Contractor on more matters than we assumed. There was miscommunication around some of the things we would be responsible for, like moving all the rock in the backyard for the pool company. Any time you hire someone to do work on your house there is bound to be some quality issues. But the things we wanted fixed were fixed and some tweaks we made were done. A couple of plants were replaced under the initial warranty period and we are watching others closely.
We wish we had a better understanding about who was responsible for some of the additional costs we incurred, like moving the rock from the backyard. This coordination between the two companies was the most time-consuming and frustrating part of the process which we now know is the nature of the business. This is not a reflection on either company, but of the nature of the project, now that we are aware we’ll know what to do next time but in all likelihood this is our last new backyard project.

We are now enjoying seeing our vision in living color and are looking forward to many years of enjoying Sarah's vision and the crew's hard work.

We met TJ at the Home Show. He was our last bid for doing our backyard and his plans were amazing! Very creative and so much better than the rest of the bids. TJ and his crew were exceptional to work with. It was truly a partnership. We were so happy with the backyard that a few months later we hired the team to rearrange and enhance our front yard. I highly recommend this company!
