Sun Air updated our HVAC system by installing a new gas furnace. The price was good, the team showed up on time and the work was professionally done. Peter and his team were a pleasure to work with and provided valuable information not just on the installation of the new system but also provided excellent guidance on future upgrades too. E.g. solar and battery backup options. I was really happy with the experience and expect to continue to use Sun Air's services for future projects. Steven

Excellent service from A locally owned Family run business. Owner took time to personally come out and inspect my HVAC system when a problem arose and explain in detail the solutions and costs associated. Would recommend to anyone looking to get their HVAC system evaluated. Thank you!!!!

SunAir is the best Heating Contractor! Peter and Adrian installed two mini split heat pump heating and cooling systems. They were extremely kind, friendly, professional, and efficient. They not only provided excellent service but helped me during a difficult time when my husband was in the hospital. They do excellent work and are wonderful people too!

    Solar system installation:
SunAir did an excellent job installing a new solar system for me. The previous system I had was solar shingles, which at nearly twenty years old, were starting to buckle and fail, and my even older electrical panel needed to be upgraded as well. Peter met with me to discuss the job, and when I mentioned that I was looking for a good roofer to redo the roof prior to the solar install, he recommended two highly-rated local companies. As we finalized the contract, he went out of his way to save me money without any reduction in quality by making sure we met the deadline for keeping the solar system under PG&E’s NEM 2.0 rates. In scheduling the job, he coordinated with the roofer so that the solar install began as soon as the new roof was on. He and his crew were careful with my garden, kept the worksite tidy, and left it neatly organized at the end of each day. They let me know at the end of each workday what time they expected to return, and they showed up when they said they would. His communication was clear and timely throughout the process. His knowledge guided me through the various bureaucratic hoops that PG&E required, and he made sure I had the appropriate documentation to get rebates and tax credits for the work he did. All in all, a top quality experience.

Electrical rewiring and installation of EV charger:
My home is nearly 80 years old, and the electrical system was long overdue for an overhaul. SunAir did a thorough job of reviewing the existing electrical wiring and making recommendations to bring it up to code, making it safe and more than adequate for my needs. Peter was communicative throughout the entire process, explaining what he planned to do and why, ensuring that I understood the pros and cons of various options. For instance, he explained clearly why it would be unsafe to install the EV charging station where I initially wanted to put it, and suggested an alternative location that, although slightly less convenient, was the right choice. After the job was completed, I acquired an electric stove and when my partner went to install it, we discovered that the 3-prong plug that came with it was incompatible with the more modern (and safer) 4-prong style that Peter had installed. I texted him to ask what we could do about it, and he and his crew came by, without charging me, and not only swapped out the stove cable, but also installed the anti-tip bracket for the stove. He really went above and beyond at every step of the way, even after the job he was hired to do was done. If you’re looking for top quality work at a fair price, SunAir will deliver it to you.

    Heater troubleshooting:
A year ago, Peter was VERY helpful when our wall heater wouldn’t turn on. He responded to my call in less than 3 hours, spent a good amount of time on the phone and texting with me to explain how I could easily fix the most common problem myself. When that didn’t fix it, he came over, even though it was after his businesses closing time, stayed until the problem was resolved, and charged what was a very reasonable amount for his time and expertise. I will definitely be calling him whenever I have a project that his company can do.

Sun Air replaced our radiant heating system with a new mini split heat pump system. I am very happy with their performance. They were professional, on time (finished early), and skilled. For perspective, I had a career of 45 years in the design and construction industry, I found Sun Air performed at the highest level of the industry.

Search no more: Sun Air is the company to call for your heater needs. I could not be more pleased with the service I received from Pete (the owner). Stellar, on all fronts.

I have an old heating system that was malfunctioning and is probably on its last legs. Previously I had another company come out to try to diagnose the problem and fix it. They took a week to fit me in. They were late, which honestly I've come to expect in Santa Cruz for any service provider so that wasn't a huge deal. They did no fixing on the spot - just charged me a couple hundred bucks for the diagnosis, and later provided a massive estimate to get the existing system working again. And then they proceeded to text me every few days asking me if I wanted to move forward. I did not want to put that much money into a system that seems like a ticking time bomb (it's from the 1980s). And I sure as heck didn't appreciate the hard selling.

Contrast that with my Sun Air experience today. They promptly responded to my request for help yesterday, and scheduled me for the next morning. Pete showed up exactly on time. He's an extremely nice and clearly experienced/knowledgeable guy, and I immediately felt like I could trust him. He quickly diagnosed the problem. He explained what was wrong with my current heater, and advised that it would not be wise to put any more money into such an antiquated, poorly installed system.

More importantly: he did some quick adjustments that got the heater working reliably again, in a manner that will likely get me at least through the winter, buying me time to figure out how I want to solve the problem permanently. And then he gave me clear guidance on what type of new system would work best for my house, and stated that he will follow up with estimates for installing that system and removing the old one, with no hard sell whatsoever. His charge for all of this incredibly valuable service and advice? $0.

Needless to say, once I decide to go forward with a new heater install later this winter or in the spring, and whenever I need heater services or any other service Sun Air has listed on their website, Pete is the first person I will call.

    Highly, highly, highly recommended.

I have used Peter Cross from Sun Air for 17 years now. I recently had him replace and install an Hvac system at a nursery home I own. They installed a new Heating and Cooling system in the attic. Him and his crew were efficient, timely, responsive, and respectful. He finished the project within the budget that was allocated. They also installed mini split heat pump at one of my other homes in Scotts Valley. That project went smoothly too. I have no doubts in referring him, or his crews. They are skilled professionals with great personalities and trustworthy. It’s always a joy to work with Pete.

I don’t even know where to start, because the project was so large.

Peter Cross who is the owner of Sun Air came out and gave us a quote for a whole home conversion from all gas appliances to electric which we have been meaning to do for quite sometime. After careful thought, since the project was such a large investment, we chose to move forward with it.

It included a full solar installation with whole home back up batteries. A new main panel upgrade with one sub-panel. A heat pump water heater installation with a water softener and whole house water filter. In addition, we added a new central Hvac heat pump installation with all new ductwork for the main house and a four zone mini split heat pump installation for the pool house, the four zones were necessary for the pool house as it has vaulted ceilings. Additionally, two car chargers with an additional circuit to convert our gas range to electric.

We are now a gas free house with no electric bill.

I will start off by saying Peter, Adrian, and Jacob were so friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They worked hard on this project and we are very pleased with the outcome.

Peter from Sun Air was fantastic! He responded quickly to our urgent request for a furnace repair and expertly fixed our heater on short notice. His professionalism and friendly demeanor made the experience stress-free. I highly recommend Peter and Sun Air for tang heating repairs!

Bid to upgrade to Central HVAC heat pump from central forced air unit.

Peter from Sun Air was recommended to me by a friend.

His initial visit was prompt and courteous, with a quick and concise overview of the work that needed to be done. You will find that his can can do attitude is backed up by reassuring experience. Not only did he and his crew remove the old unit, he ended up repairing many long existing leaks under the house and improved the crawl space, in addition to installing the new Central HVAC heat pump.

We now have a super efficient method to heat the house (not the crawl space) and also have cooling for the first time in over 20 years.

Sun Air put in a proposal for an HVAC system we needed geared toward air quality due to severe allergies and asthma. We received quotes from 3 businesses, and all were professional and pleasant to work with during the proposal steps. As a potential customer (and former engineer) I knew what we needed was not the easiest simplest job and I had many questions and details to work out both during the proposal period and planning the system. Throughout this process Peter stayed responsive, friendly and rose to the challenge of finding the ideal solution for our home. Among the 3 proposals, Sun Air had the best solution and value and they also provided a 5 year parts and labor warranty vs 2 year from others (not including the manufacturers' warranties). Peter also made sure we knew that from start to finish he would be personally be working on the job and making sure it was done right - not sending inexperienced technicians to complete any portions of the job unsupervised. The trade off for this diligence is that the work took a bit longer than it may have otherwise - but it was more important to us that it was done correctly with quality workmanship than as quickly as possible.

Peter and his team didn't just install a standard HVAC, they designed and configured a complex system to meet all our needs which included: controlling indoor humidity to our specifications (below 50%) to reduce dust mites and mold, fresh air ventilation through the best air filtration available (to avoid having to open windows for ventilation when there is high pollen counts or poor air quality outdoors), and a zoned heat pump system to keep our small home office comfortable - all while remaining as quiet as possible.

The solution was a fully variable speed Bryant Evolution heat pump with 2 zones, a ventilating Aprilaire dehumidifier, and a Lennox healthy Climate whole house air purifier (with UV light and MERV 16) along with the ductwork to tie it all together including 4 total returns (with pre-filters on them to keep ducts and system clean) to ensure balanced airflow.

In this system, the dehumidifier controls a damper to bring in fresh air from outside on an hourly schedule through the dehumidifier (which automatically dehumidifies the incoming air as needed) the air then passes through the whole house air purifier and the heat pump air handler to heat or cool if necessary and circulate the air evenly in all rooms. The dehumidifier also operates as a regular dehumidifier ie it activates when indoor humidity rises above its set point and turns on the air handler to circulate the air around the house whether or not fresh air ventilation is active. The whole house air purifier is "hospital grade" to remove both particulate matter including pollen, mold spores and pm2.5 smoke particles as well as using activated charcoal to remove VOCs from vehicle exhaust and wood fire pollution. The zoned system controls the temperature for the home office separately, for efficiency and comfort - the computers generate a lot of heat in a small room.

Peter did a lot of work researching and troubleshooting to get the equipment to operate perfectly together. He added a WiFi module to control the dehumidifier basic settings directly from an app since Bryant doesn't allow for control of a dehumidifier through the required thermostat. He and his assistant also returned to install an addition to the ductwork necessary to fine tune the zoning and balance the airflow after we tested the system for a while.

Finally, Peter and his team were careful of our home and pets during the work, minimizing mess, disruption, and leaving things clean at the end of each work day. He communicated clearly at each step of the process and guided us through various design and configuration decisions.

In all, as a very exacting customer I can fully recommend Sun Air to execute their proposal and stand behind their work.

Peter from SunAir was fantastic! My furnace stopped working right as it started getting very cold outside, and he was able to schedule me for an appointment the next morning. He arrived on time, came prepared, and was very knowledgeable about the furnace. He diagnosed the problem very quickly and explained why there was an issue. Instead of just putting a bandaid on the problem, he completely fixed it by eliminating the part that would continue to cause problems down the line. He was very professional and kind, and I would highly recommend SunAir.

Sun Air has been the Heating & Cooling company we needed. Our heating system broke a couple months ago, and the company we had been working with came out multiple times without a fix. We contacted Sun Air, requesting quick service. They came out within a day’s time, identified the problem in about half and hour, and fixed the base problem shortly after that. They are obtaining needed parts to finish out the project. We will be working with Sun Air going forward, and would recommend them to those seeing a Heating & Cooling company.

Sun Air recently completed a furnace installation at our property, and the service was handled with a high level of professionalism and technical competence. The technicians were punctual, thorough, and clearly knowledgeable in HVAC standards and furnace replacement procedures.

The installation was completed efficiently, in compliance with applicable codes, and the work area was left clean and orderly. Communication was clear throughout the process, and the new furnace operates exactly as represented.

Sun Air is a reliable HVAC contractor and can be confidently recommended.

After two frustrating months of back-and-forth with another HVAC contractor, our heater still wouldn’t stay on for more than about seven minutes at a time. We finally called Sun Air, and the difference was incredible. They stopped by while they were already in the area and worked us into their schedule as a favor. In a single visit they diagnosed the issue, fixed the problem, and clearly explained what had been done incorrectly by the previous contractor.

Not only did they solve the problem quickly, but they also charged us a very fair price for the service. Their response time, professionalism, and willingness to help at their own inconvenience really stood out. It’s obvious that the team at Sun Air knows exactly what they’re doing and genuinely cares about their customers. We couldn’t be happier with the service and would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing HVAC work.

I recently engaged Peter at Sun Air, Aptos to install a new Carrier Infinity heat pump system at my residence, and I was thoroughly impressed by the company’s professionalism, technical competence, and attention to detail throughout the entire process.

From the initial consultation, it was clear that Sun Air values transparency and customer education. Peter provided a comprehensive explanation of the available systems, outlined the advantages, differences, and cost implications of each option, and ensured that I was fully informed before making a decision.

The installation itself was executed efficiently and with a high degree of workmanship. Done on schedule. Peter, Adrian, and Jake arrived promptly, demonstrated clear expertise. Maintained a clean and organized workspace. Upon completion, they conducted a meticulous system check and ensured that all functions were operating properly.

Since installation, the heat pump has performed exceptionally well, resulting in improved energy efficiency and consistent comfort. I particularly appreciated the company’s follow up with communication to confirm my satisfaction and address any residual questions.

In summary, I would not hesitate to recommend Sun Air to any homeowner, neighbor, family member, or business seeking reliable, professional HVAC services delivered with integrity and precision. Outstanding service.

We recently had a Bryant evolution heat pump system with full zone control and new ductwork installed by the Sun Air team. They were prompt, clear communicators, and pleasant to have here. They were able to creatively problem solve and did a great job on a challenging wall mount finish issue. I highly recommend!

I recently hired Sun Air for a furnace replacement, full heating installation, and new HVAC ductwork, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. Peter and Adrian and Jacob were professional, efficient, and exceptionally clear in their communication. They handled every detail with care, kept the workspace clean, and made sure I understood the new system.

The workmanship is outstanding, and my home now heats more evenly and quietly than it has in years. Peter and the entire Sun Air team made the project smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend them for anyone needing furnace replacement, heating installation, or new HVAC ductwork.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Peter and Adrian from Sunair to look at a small wall heater/AC unit in my studio salon. I reached out because I suspected the unit hadn’t been serviced since I began renting the space, and I was concerned about safety. When I searched for local HVAC service companies, Sunair was the first to appear—and I’m so glad they did.

From the very beginning, my experience with Sunair was exceptional. I was able to schedule a consultation promptly after my inquiry, and the entire process was smooth and professional. What stood out most, however, was their honesty, efficiency, and respect for my time and space.

After inspecting the unit, Peter reassured me that it was in good working condition and didn’t need to be replaced. Rather than trying to upsell me on a new system, he simply serviced the existing unit and ensured me it was running safely and efficiently. As a small business owner, I deeply value that kind of integrity.

It’s clear that Sunair often handles large-scale projects, so I was especially grateful that Peter and Adrian took the time to come out and assist with my small job. Their kindness, attention to detail, and professionalism truly made an impression.

I’m so thankful for both Peter and Adrian's expertise and honesty, and I wholeheartedly recommend Sunair to anyone in need of HVAC services.

    THANK YOU SUNAIR!!!

Sun Air recently installed a new heat pump, fan coil, and thermostat in our Felton home. They were simply GREAT in every aspect of the job.

Sun Air owner Peter and his assistant Adrian came initially to examine our existing (27-year-old) unit for possible repair, and immediately noticed some faulty wiring (which a previous repair crew had completely missed), but also that our heat pump component was no longer functional.

So we discussed options for a new unit, which Peter presented and explained carefully. The cost quoted was very fair. Installation required a few days but went very smoothly. The Sun Air crew -- Peter, assisted by Adrian, Wyatt, and Jacob -- were always punctual, very courteous, considerate, friendly, clean, and professional.

We're thrilled with our new heat pump and enthusiastically recommend Sun Air for anyone seeking repair or replacement of heating, cooling, or water-heating equipment. Their work is first-rate!
