General Contractor reviews in Berkeley, California

We can thank Emanuel for the construction of a beautiful new bathroom in our home. He navigated lengthy and complicated permit challenges, and was easy to work with. We would gladly work with him on future projects.

Emanuel and Alin are two brothers who work together and make an excellent team. They remodeled our kitchen and bathroom, and updated the electrical system in our home. They are good communicators, reliable, very professional, and great at what they do. We are very happy with the results. And they finished the job on time.

Emanuel was over at a neighbor's place doing a drywall job and I asked him if he'd mind taking a look at a leaking window at my house. Emanuel came over in 10 minutes, gave me a rough quote of what it would take to replace the window, and then offered to seal the leaky area for free, right then and there. I took him up on his very generous offer, and he came back and did the job in 15 minutes. I couldn't have been happier with this interaction.

The previous owner of my home has also used BuildMark for some deck work, electrical work, etc., and has nothing but positive things to say. I couldn't recommend BuildMark highly enough.

Emanuel and Alin have done multiple jobs, large and small, for us over the last 5 years. They have remodeled 2 bathrooms to the studs including all plumbing and electrical work, updated the the entire electrical system in our home, and performed numerous smaller jobs (installing new doors, etc). Their work in all phases of these projects has been consistently excellent. Furthermore, their prices have been reasonable and they've been a pleasure to work with. We're in Berkeley where the inspectors are sometimes strict, and we've never had any permitting issues (in Emanuel's words, "if you do the job right, you don't have to worry about passing the inspection"). Finally, they are very considerate of our home, taking care to minimize the impact of the construction and making sure our indoor cat doesn't get out! We'd highly recommend Bay Area Pacific Construction for your remodeling project.

Friends recommended BuildMark and when I saw the work I was sold! Emanuel was incredibly knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with. He turned our vague plans for remodeling a small bathroom into beautiful possibilities, and when we ask for additional changes he quickly came up with a nice alternative. We highly recommend him and the company!

Buildmark remodeled my kitchen in a 1920s bungalow. The job entailed installing a new tile floor, cabinets, tile backsplash, exhaust vent to the roof, and toe kick. They built a custom pantry into the wall, and a laundry table over my W/D. They moved and installed ceiling lights and outlets. I bought custom fronts for my Ikea cabinets, which they also painted in the colors I wanted. Emanuel is very easy to work with - communicative, and brought me in for necessary decisions. When something didn't look right to me, he immediately set to correcting the issue so we were satisfied. His team was friendly and hard-working. I'm loving my new kitchen. I appreciated Emanuel's detailed contract, so I knew exactly what I was paying for as the job unfolded. I would use Buildmark again (and I am!)

Emanuel and his crew at BuildMark were simply fantastic. He far exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t be happier with our new kitchen. His communication was excellent, very professional in his approach, helped us problem solve a few hiccups that came up (which are inevitable in any remodel project!), kept the workspace tidy every day, and we genuinely enjoyed working with him. It was very clear he takes a lot of pride in his work and is very detail oriented. He’s a very positive, kind and caring person which made having him around our house every day pleasant. His team worked so hard and did a fantastic job! Couldn’t recommend BuildMark highly enough.

We hired BuildMark, Inc. to redo our bathroom shower due to a leak. Emanuel and his team did an excellent job and we love our new shower! The BuildMark crew did high quality work and were unobtrusive as they carried it out, which was really important as various family members were working and studying from home. In addition, the workers were very respectful of our space and careful to ensure our dog did not get out as they entered and exited the house. Emanuel was always responsive to us and came by our house several times before starting the work to respond to our questions and explain the way they would approach the job. Emanuel’s estimate of how long the work would take was spot on. We are very pleased with BuildMark, Inc. and would highly recommend them.

I had a 5-star experience with Emanuel and his team. All of them were polite and responsive. Emanuel came out promptly to give me a quote and kept me informed about the job status. His crew worked hard and did an excellent job repairing the beams and fascia in the front of my house in the Kensington hills. These now look better than they did when I bought the place 10 years ago. I would not hesitate to hire BuildMark for future work.

BuildMark completed a whole house remodel for us, and helped bring our 1960s house up to current energy and efficiency standards, as well as make it a wonderful and cozy space for our family. Emanuel and his team did excellent work from start to finish. Emanuel worked with us and our architects from the initial planning stage, and communicated effectively through the project.

He regularly communicated the construction progress, and was proactive about communicating any finish material needs & timelines, as well as any potential issues & conflicts that he could foresee.

Emanuel was also very responsive in helping address a few minor items that we noticed after moving in. It definitely shows that he takes prides in his work, and has a long term perspective for his work and his clients.

Overall, we are very happy with Emanuel and the BuildMark team, and we will definitely consider them for any future needs!

Services performed: Structural remodel, seismic retrofit (shear walls), full kitchen remodel, full bathroom remodel, new mudroom, wall/attic insulation, electrical panel upgrade (200A), full house electrical wiring, new plumbing, full house window and door replacement, flooring installation (tile), floor refinishing (hardwood), all new fixtures and appliance installation, cabinet installation for kitchen, bath and mudroom.

Emanuel and his team were amazing! They did wonderful work in fully renovating our kitchen. Emanuel communicated very well, alerted us to key questions or issues quickly and recommended sound solutions. The team was very respectful of our home and kept it in excellent repair. And they finished the work far faster than we anticipated. We are very happy to give Emanuel and the BuildMark team a superlative review and to strongly recommend him and his team to others.

Emanuel and Co. remodeled the bathroom in our tiny 1907 house. It's beautiful and will help us age-in-place in a neighborhood we love. His communication with customers, expertise, experience, and easy-going manner made the experience painless.

Emanuel and his team did a fantastic job on our bathroom remodel, he communicated frequently throughout the project and stayed within timeline and budget outlined. While we had most of the design and layout already in mind he would make suggestions along the way that made it even better and listened to what our needs were. The team was also regularly on site working. Highly recommend!

We were really happy with the bathroom retrofit work that Emanuel did for us and would highly recommend him. Emanuel and his team were very responsive and customer satisfaction is clearly very important. We had an issue with the pipes they replaced creating a loud knocking noise and Emanuel came back to replace parts several times until the issue was resolved. We're very happy with the finished product and we have already hired them back to do another project for us.

We are very pleased with our partial kitchen remodel. As first time homeowners, this was our first major project on our house and we had lots of questions. We really appreciated Emanuel's level of communication throughout the process, from answering our many questions in the beginning to keeping us updated on when workers were coming to the house. Emanuel and his team did an amazing job, all within the timeframe discussed. We highly recommend Emanuel to anyone else seeking remodeling needs. We'll definitely use him again in the future. Thank you Emanuel for our amazing new kitchen!

Emanuel was very lovely to work with! The project was completed in the expected time frame, the details were thoughtful (he matched the pattern of the wood floor with the rest of the house), and he was always helpful in answering questions as things progressed. It was nice to know that he had lots of experience with similar redesigns since we didn't have much experience with layout or details. He even helped out with some other difficulties we were having with our heater which wasn't a part of his project.

BuildMark completed a few projects for us including a kitchen remodel and whole-house electrical upgrade for our 100-year-oldish home. Emanuel and his team are very kind, courteous, realistic, responsive, and take a lot of pride in their work. Emanuel has a lot of experience working on homes and is wonderful with advice and helping to troubleshoot or brainstorm issues. I’m fairly particular :) and can spend some time going back-and-forth with details and he was always very patient and understanding. Our house is beautiful thanks to his hard work. We love the kitchen, the interior painting, and appreciate that our electrical is upgraded and up to code. We are looking forward to working with him and his team again!

I had water damage in a rental unit in Berkeley that affected the bathroom and bedroom. It was a tricky project with moisture concerns in a unit that was below grade. I need it repaired quickly but I also wanted it done well so there wouldn’t be any problems in the future. Emanuel and BuildMark Construction delivered. He did an excellent job — on time and on budget. During the process, he identified problems with the previous build and fixed them. He recommended appropriate materials for durability and quality. He communicated clearly when important decisions needed to be made and always deferred to my preference without any push back. He also followed through on every last detail, even when there were a bunch of extra add-ons that surfaced at the end of the project. In the end, the bathroom is gorgeous and even more importantly, I know it is well built to last. Emanuel was a pleasure to work with. My project was on the smaller side but I wouldn’t hesitate to hire him again for a larger construction project in the future. Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic experience working with Emmanuel and Buildmark on our small bathroom remodel. From start to finish, he and his team were professional, detail-oriented, and incredibly respectful of our home.
The tile work is absolutely beautiful: precise, clean, and expertly done. Emmanuel clearly takes pride in his craftsmanship, and it shows in the final result. His team kept the workspace tidy every day and made a real effort to minimize dust and disruption, which we really appreciated.
Communication was excellent throughout the project. Emmanuel was always open to conversation, listened carefully, and made sure we felt comfortable with every decision. He was also flexible in taking on a few additional small projects and even offered helpful suggestions about other areas of our home.
His pricing is very fair for the quality of work he delivers. I would absolutely recommend Emmanuel and Buildmark and would gladly work with him again. Que viva Romania!
