Swimming Pool Contractor reviews in Corona, California

We had Aquascapes come to our home and give us a cost to upgrade our old pool. We are very happy with the work. The cost and time line were just what we wanted and the quality was excelent. The work crew cleaned up daily and I had no issues what so ever. We would highly recomend Aquascapes to anyone.

Another update- it has been 4 years now with no change to plaster appearance- it still looks like new. I switched to bromine based chemistry and am using less than ever (3-5 lbs/quarter) with almost no pH adjustment, and water stays clear. The spa is still one of the focal points of the yard, and we love seeing and using it. Thanks again Rich!

Just an update- almost a year later, and the Spa still looks like the day it was re-done. I am using very little chemistry (As Rich emphasized, using only what is needed is better for the equipment and plaster). I never have to brush it, and I plan to clean the big filter at the one year mark (1 more month). I still say this is the best pool/spa designer/contractor in Southern CA!

Here is my original post:

I am so glad I found this company! I recently purchased a bank-owned property. The large (1,000 + gallons) in-ground spa had been chemically-abused and then neglected. Excessive chemicals and age had caused considerable deterioration of the plaster and tile. While this was great for negotiating a better price on the house, we were then stuck with a real eye-sore and hazard.I got a quote from a well-known pool repair place in O.C., but got discouraged because of the high price. Coordinating visits for the quote was a bit of a hassle because of our location in Corona. I decided to check for a local source, and found Aquascapes in Corona. The owner, Rich, was very prompt and thorough (a really cool guy, too). He provided samples of colors and tiles, and had many helpful ideas about how to go a great job while staying within my limited budget. In addition, we had a big company party planned with a bit of a deadline, and so we were getting a bit nervous about having enough time to finish before the party. This turned out to be a non-issue.The workers were polite and efficient, and they cleaned up every step of the way. They finished ahead of schedule (in just 2 days), and Rich was even able to re-wire some control wiring which had been tampered with. The first company who quoted the job wanted to replace all of the controls, lights, some filters and pumps, but Rich and his team were able to trouble shoot and work with the situation, and the system has been purring along beautifully ever since. I feel the money they saved me in this area alone paid for the re-plaster and tiling. The end result is a real show-piece! My wife was very pleased that what was envisioned and promised turned into a reality. Everyone at our party agreed that the spa plastering and tile work were of a high-end resort quality. It looked fantastic that night with the lights and water feature running.I give this company the highest rating. It is nice to see that there are still some some companies and artisans left in this country with a high level of both skill and integrity. If I ever do a pool in the future, there will be no doubt about who I call to get the job done right.

Update- March 2018- still going strong!

Tony is excellent. Beautiful design and worked with you. Always responsive. His crew is excellent. He made us a resort. No hesitation recommending him.

After few quotes from different companies we decided to go with Sunset outdoor creations! We are extremely happy with the outcome and were very glad to work with Tony Doumani, very knowledgeable and made the process go very smoothly! We highly recommend this company.

Sunset Outdoor Creation renovated my entire backyard. They created a huge infinity edge swimming pool at the edge of a hill, created a 20’ x 20’ deck, sunken fire pit, and a huge outdoor kitchen including a pizza oven.
They did an amazing job that no other company could do in such a short time

I have worked for contractors my whole life. There are a lot of terrible ones out there. This company is completing an entire back yard for my daughter and I must say they not only do beautiful work, they are more than fair and HONEST. I'm sure my daughter will post a review with pictures when it's all done but I had to put my two cents in. Thank you Sunset for being one of the good Contractors. Makes me proud to be part of the industry.

After getting three different bids on my backyard. Tony came in with the best design and price. And his crew from start to finish was amazing. We love to host different events for family and friends and we get lots of compliments on our yard. I would definitely recommend them.

UPDATE - May 7, 2024

Eric Dumani reached out to us after reading the review I posted. He came out and documented all of the items that were in my original post.

Eric validated our concerns and told us he and his company would take care of our issues and has done so.

I wish things had gone much better from the beginning, but I’m grateful that Eric has rectified everything. Because of this I have changed my rating from 2 to 5!

I highly recommend this company for your construction needs in your yard.

Thank you Eric for making this right!!! 😊😊😊

We hired Tony and his Company for our backyard remodel project in 2019 and believed we could trust this man to be honest and honorable. Unfortunately, after they rushed to finish our project, we had many problems!!!
Firstly, they did not make sure the area around the pool and spa were able to be walked on without any problems, I ended up slipping and falling severely and hit my butt, shoulder and face. I reported this to Tony with photos and while he apologized and came back to fix the walking areas, I still suffered significant damages to my body and was in significant pain.
As we have gone on through the years, we’ve found that they did not seal our driveway or backyard patio correctly. We brought out other companies to give their diagnosis and we found out they never cured the cement properly.

Additionally, Tony told us he would create a BBQ island that was amazing. Unfortunately, he made the island out of cement that was dyed a brown color and was subpar because it began cracking when the sun hit it. We eventually had to replace the whole cement top with Granite because it became impossible to care for.
The stones we selected to surround our pool and BBQ island and the fence covering the pool equipment began falling off because his crew did not place enough product to cement all stones. As these stones began falling off, it was apparent that they used the sealant very sparingly.

As time has moved n, Tony and his son have refused to take our calls and have left us with inferior workmanship quality!!!

The team over at Sunset Outdoor was referred by a good friend of ours. They set the expectation very high and Sunset Outdoor came through. Eric and his team are pros and super patient. Their design capabilities are exceptional. I already referred my good friend over and will continue to do so. The best.

Tony and Eric are fabulous when it comes to swimming pool construction and design! They truly made me happy from the beginning to the end. I felt very confident about their work from the moment they came for the estimate. Also, what made me very comfortable was that I could see their previous jobs, which were all of extremely high quality. I could just tell that they love what they do! Great work and great end result!!

I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with Sunset Outdoor Creations. From start to finish Tony was very helpful, within days he was able to draft and present a pool design that illustrated exactly what we were looking for with a few creative additions all his own. Construction itself was just as prompt without sacrificing quality and attention to detail. Tony was very personable and transparent throughout the whole process and made me feel like my pool was his top priority. I would highly recommend Sunset Outdoor Creations for anyone looking for a unique pool design for reasonable price!

We hired Eric/ Sunset Outdoor Creations to remodel our backyard. We were very happy with his work and also the quality & service he provided. He finished the project before time and updated us everyday about the progress. Very professional, punctual and helpful. Would highly recommend him. Extremely happy with his references with the landscaper as well. Overall, I would give him more than 5 stars if it were possible. He delivered the dream backyard we have always wanted! Thanks Eric!

We hired Sunset Outdoor to make our dream backyard a reality with new hard scape, a pool/spa and covered patio area. We had an AMAZING experience with them from the start of the design process all the way through to build completion. We are so happy we went with Eric and Sunset Outdoor! Here are a few reasons why:

1. Top notch communication. Eric was the best at answering all questions, explaining all steps proactively, and always communicating often. This great, professional and knowledgeable communication instilled so much confidence in us as we worked through this process. This was really important to us as we heard that many pool contractors cause more stress than necessary just because they don't communicate well. During the build we knew every day what was going on so there were never any surprises.
2. 3D design renderings included. These were so helpful to envision the future space. Eric walked us through the renderings and updated them in real time as we discussed feedback/ideas. Sunset also included everything needed for HOA and permit approvals which was great.
3. EXTENSIVE knowledge of everything related to the pool building process. We had a million questions and Eric definitely knows what he is doing. From building questions to design/tile/finishes questions, pool equipment questions, pool operation questions etc - you could tell that he had years and years of experience and knowledge in this space.
4. We could see their work in our community. We were able to visit other homes who hired Sunset outdoor to see things in person before making decisions. For me this helped immensely and was also nice to see how others had good experiences with them as well.
5. Great crews and network. Everyone who worked on our backyard was professional and did great work. The work was always completed on time at every step as well! Our concrete is beautiful. The pool tile and stone work is top notch. Eric and Sunset outdoor also had great contacts for us to reach out to for HVAC relocation, landscaping and pool saftey fences. We had great experiences with all of their referrals as well. Their network always had great things to say about Sunset Outdoor.

We definitely recommend Sunset Outdoor!

Eric and his team were amazing to work with! Our backyard looks phenomenal. They were communicative and on schedule. They also had great ideas and helped us every step of the way. Our backyard is beautiful and I could not recommend this company more!

Highly recommend working with this company! Eric exceeded our expectations from the very beginning. He responded right away, actually showed up when he said he would (which most companies in our experience hardly even returned a phone call), gave a detailed quote within a few days, and provided a very beautiful video rendering of our dream pool.
His knowledge, expertise, and recommendations were greatly appreciated as we were narrowing down the different design options.
The entire build process was very smooth. Whenever we had questions, Eric was quick to respond and took care of whatever concerns we had. They even completed our pool ahead of schedule! We are so happy to have found Sunset Outdoor Creations!!

I have been planning a complete redesign of my backyard that will include modifications to our current swimming pool. The design includes California room and fireplace. Eric and Tony were fantastic to work with on the design. Their work quality and ethics are magnificent, and they never tried to upsell anything that we didn’t need, which was the case with couple of other pool contractors that bid for the project. They are on top of things from A to Z. Keep up the good work guys. Your team is awesome!

A+ Experience with Eric and his Team at Sunset in building our pool and outdoor kitchen/bar. They were prompt, clean, and detail oriented. Their prices were competitive and the work is top notch. Eric worked within our budget and gave us great ideas, we even let him pick our color scheme and it all came out great.

Eric’s communication was great and his team made the process extremely smooth. Can’t recommend them enough, I’ve already referred many of my friends to Sunset.

We hired Sunset Outdoor Creations to design and build our pool and spa. Eric was professional and courteous from the start. He gave us a timeline for every part of the process and stuck to it. Workmanship is excellent and he was responsive to all of our changes. So glad we went with him and highly recommend him hands down over anyone else. A pleasure to work with.

Tony Doumani, owner of Sunset Outdoor Creations deserves more than 5 stars in my book! After making the decision to create an outdoor haven we began interviewing pool designers and contractors to help us to bring our vision to fruition. We are more than thankful that we chose Tony. Tony is "top of the heap". He is a person of excellent character who holds a high moral standard. He is kind, patient, talented, and truly passionate about what he does. It is so clear that this is not just a career for Tony, but his charge in life. Tony was able to infuse our ideas with his creativity and knowledge of his craft to create a beautiful pool, spa and California Room that is encompassed with an incredible landscaped backdrop. My husband is also very creative and well versed in all aspects of construction. We have found in our journey that many contractors would shy away from us, but not Tony! He was never afraid to explore something new and was always patient and available when we needed to make a revision or troubleshoot. He is still available to us as we learn to utilize all of the features and make our final decisions even though his portion of the job is done. Very often, I hear my husband on the phone, and I will ask, who were you talking to? His reply, I was talking to "T":) In taking on the challenge of renovation as a new resident to the state, we found many unreliable people along the way, but not Tony. He is definitely the person that you want to hire. His son is also in the business and I can only imagine that the apple does not fall far from the tree.

If anyone is looking for an excellent outdoor contractor, Eric Doumani and his guys at Sunset Outdoor Creations are the one to call. We recently gutted our entire backyard, and used them to build a pool, built in barbecue, built in fire pit, and a putting green. They had amazing vision, and brought our backyard dreams to life. Eric was responsive, efficient, professional and one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet!

From start to finish Eric and his company had remained reliable and professional. There maybe some hiccups that came along the way due to some unforeseen circumstances, but Eric was on top of everything and ensured that my husband and I were updated and at ease. I would hire him in a heartbeat again!
