Love this company

MAK is great to work with. My house is old and I requested they keep to that appearance when creating the addition. Truly you can’t tell where the 1928 part ends and the new begins. From wainscoting to 6 over 1 windows they know their stuff. I was assigned Tyler as my project manager. He has an unbelievable work ethic and his energy and creativity matched my own. All the folks that work there are trust worthy and they vouch for their subcontractors which is nice when you are leaving the house.

I would highly recommend this group!

Not only are these folks the best at remodeling, but they follow through way after the fact. Recently, we misplaced the canvas bag for the laundry hamper installed by MAK Design as part of some fairly extensive remodeling they did back in 2018. Having some difficulty locating a replacement, I contacted Ken and a replacement was hand-delivered by Jon- no charge. Thanks, Ken, Jon, and Anthony (who knew where to look). Highly recommended.

Our 1990s kitchen and family room needed a major update. The remodel had to be done right because it would define our home for the next 20 years and be the place we’d end up spending half our time when at home. For those reasons, we chose to work with MAK, and we’re 100% happy with that decision. From the initial planning to the last finishing touches, everything was done professionally and to the highest standard. What we especially appreciated is their transparency and responsiveness: everything from pricing to timeline is explained clearly, all our questions were promptly answered, and all our concerns were addressed quickly and cheerfully. A really important plus of working with MAK is that they clearly know and hire the best people in every area of design and construction, from painting to cabinetry to flooring. Everyone at MAK is a pro, but we especially want to highlight our designer, Anthony Anderson, lead carpenter Robert, production manager Jon, project coordinator Karen, and last but certainly not least, owner Ken Kirsch.

This review (by Lisa and Galen) has been on our back burner for too long, so we finally wanted to belatedly express our joy and gratitude to the entire MAK team for a wonderful master bathroom remodel!
We thoroughly enjoyed working with the design team of Diana and Madelyn who helped us think outside of our narrow thought-box while simultaneously meeting every one of our wants and needs (increasing storage, maximizing overhead spaces, reconfiguring the layout, using beautiful ceramic tile, creating a floating bamboo-wood vanity, etc.). Their attention to detail made everything run quite smoothly, and their use of the "Buildertrend" scheduling and payment website kept us up to date on daily activities, itemized charges and payments.
Keith, our project manager, was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and understanding, and he briefed us weekly on their progress and on any issues or setbacks that needed our attention. He and his team also displayed impressive craftsmanship throughout the entire remodel, and they effortlessly installed new support beams and joist for the reconfigured space and expertly built custom shelves for our high ceiling closet and oddly shaped water closet.
The only downside to using MAK was the cost: they were not cheap. We ended up spending approximately 25-30% over the original estimated cost of the project. Yet, we were not complaining since the changes were extensive (moved toilet/water closet, new curbless walk-in shower, new floating vanity/sinks, etc., which all require major underground plumbing work), the expertise of each subcontractor was stellar (especially the tile guy), and the whole process (design, fixtures selection, permits, demolition, waste removal, outdoor porta-potty, selecting/scheduling subcontractors, the entire build, etc.) was done with meticulous planning and foresight. In the end, we got exactly what we wanted and more!

Working with MAK Design + Build was pleasant, informative, and fun! Everyone I encountered has great communication skills, a willingness to put the client's wishes first, and they are extremely good listeners. We were thrilled with the Japanese style pavilion that ties in beautifully with our mid-century home. My favorite feature is the western red cedar moon viewing window that goes nicely with the granite moon viewing lantern on our deck. My mother had the lantern shipped from Japan decades ago. It's been 20 years since her death but she would love this pavilion.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with the MAK team on our garage conversion in Davis. Every single team member showed a commitment to quality and transparency, and they were all very respectful and pleasant. We never had to worry about the overall quality of the work because our project manager was on site every day to make sure every aspect of the build was taken care of. We also enjoyed working with the design team and appreciated their guidance. We ended up with an airy and modern looking multi-use room and beautiful bathroom that fits our personal style! The team even helped us problem solve a unique storage solution that made up for the loss of our garage. We plan to use this team again for our upcoming kitchen and second bath remodel.

I've been with MAK for several reno's over the past 15 or so years. Every project, every person involved has been professional and great to work with. The designers are patient, helping me figure out exactly what I'm looking for. They're super creative and I'm so happy with how my rooms have turned out.

Attention to detail is really important -- MAK works with what you have, making sure the new space will be compatible with your favorite kitchen appliance, for example. Recently, I had two super specific ideas and MAK made them happen -- a special tucked away litter box entrance, and a dedicated cabinet for my roomba! Both work perfectly and are just the solutions I was hoping for.

We've done a master bath, kitchen, den, and most recently a bath/laundry combo. Obviously I'm thrilled with them since I keep coming back! I wouldn't trust my home to anyone else.

A couple of years ago, my neighbor had a large renovation project. He vetted various companies and finally chose MAK. They met every expectation in terms of design, timeliness, choice of best contractors, craftsmanship, attention to detail, continual updating on progress, and sheer professionalism all provided with utmost cordial service. I was impressed with my neighbor's testimonial and said I was glad to know that if I ever needed renovation or remodeling work, I would know who to contact. And that day did occur when a serious pipe leak led to remodeling of my master bathroom. I did not bother with getting competing bids. I wanted to experience what my neighbor experienced and I am happy to say I did. For me, MAK also met every expectation. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

MAK recently completed a second remodel on our home. The first, 15 years ago, has aged well, and their work made our home a much pleasanter place for our young family. Their work on the first go-around was so excellent, that when we started thinking about aging-in-place home modifications, we returned to MAK.

The recently finished remodel was extensive, and touched nearly every part of the house that was not modified in the previous remodel.

The design team helped us focus our planning and make specific choices. They did a wonderful job of asking us about our preferences, offering us a manageable range of design suggestions and helping us talk through our decisions, to make sure we ended up with a final product we liked. Our construction project manager, Carlos, was always available to us. We met once a week about project updates, questions and concerns. Carlos took care of interfacing with the sub-contractors. We always knew who would be in our house and when to expect them. He did a great job coordinating tasks around our life and schedule when he could, mitigating the disturbance the rest of the time, and making sure everything was cleaned up at the end of each day.

The sub-contractors were all craftspeople who worked to produce an excellent product. Steven, from JRB Drywall, filled a long crack in our dining room ceiling and took extra pains to be sure everything blended perfectly. Francisco, from Genoa Soapstone, came in late Friday afternoon to make a last minute cut the kitchen counter so our new cooktop would fit the space and was successfully installed before the weekend.

The tile installers were meticulous - thank you to Ulices at Top Notch Tile. Todd, from Country Bear Electric, saved us time and money when he found a way to run wires that reduced the amount of walls that needed to be opened. Arden Cabinets built and installed the wonderful bathroom vanity with rollout drawers so we can make use of the whole depth of the cabinet space.

I could go on. MAK did a wonderful job. We will use them again if we find we want additional work in the future. If you are considering a major remodel, do yourself and favor and meet with them.

My wife and I have discussed for some years redesigning our front entrance to allow for a roof overhang and to redesign our fireplace. We noticed MAK working on a home in our neighborhood. We called them and scheduled an initial interview. The MAK design team turned out to be extremely pleasant, insightful as to our needs and professional at all levels. Suffice to say that my wife and I are extraordinarily satisfied with the designs and the MAK commitment to excellence in both design and construction. Ilse Montellano and Madelyn Siverling were both excellent design experts who understood our needs and responded to our specific design requirements. We would absolutely work with them again. David Martinez as the project manager has been fantastic to work with, respectful of our needs and supremely professional in ensuring excellence in project construction.
We would recommend MAK to any homeowner in the great Sacramento area who wishes to initiate a home remodel at any level. There is a guarantee of design
and construction excellence and follow through, as well as the knowledge that one felt supported by the MAK people through the entire process. In addition to all that, MAK communicated faithfully with my wife and I throughout the entire home redesign process.
