Constraction reviews in Martinez, California

David and his team are true professionals and take pride in their work. We engaged Kodiak Construction to install over 2000 sq ft of stamped concrete in our side and backyard in early 2016 and it still looks great today. As you can see in the photos they do the job right using the proper amount of gravel and rebar. They also installed area drains and tied the pipes into our existing downspout drainage system. I have recommended Kodiak Construction on Next Door to other individuals looking for concrete work (patio's, driveways, etc.). David himself has years of experience laying concrete as he mentioned to me that he was engaged in many of the development projects in Danville and San Ramon as those cities grew. His company is also Diamond Certified.

We received bids from several contractors for our job, which required (1) the removal of existing flagstone, dead grass, and junipers, and (2) installation of approximately 1100 sf of pavers and two low retaining walls.

Kodiak promptly responded to my voicemail message. David, the owner, came on time for a free estimate. He's low key, friendly, and easy going. He took measurements and notes and about a week later, he sent a quote. (The quote was just a basic overview of the proposed work - it was NOT the contract, which is a separate document). The quote was considerably less than the highest competitor's quotes.

Kodiak is one of the few contractors that I've encountered that actually uses a contract form that complies with the California Business & Professions Code requirements. This is a very underrated aspect when it comes to hiring a contractor (many companies skip the requirement or even try to include backward terms like having the homeowner indemnify the contractor(!)).

The work started on the day they said. His crew worked hard every day. David came a couple of times to monitor the progress. While it took a few more days than expected, the additional time was very reasonable because the area had some slope, which they were able to level quite a bit.

As the photos show, the finished work looks amazing.

Used Boydstun for remodel of a bathroom, adding washer and dryer hook ups and overhead lighting. They were great! Showed up as scheduled, communicated status and cleaned up. They worked with the city of Walnut Creek and we passed all permits. I would highly recommend them and use them in the future.

Good people and good work

Great builder. They do great work with really good quality

Absolutely the best!! Start to finish. High quality, friendly, knowledgeable. The team work was the best!!!

Fabulous company with top notch workmen and staff. All work was clean and beautiful. Workers checked with me regularly to be sure they were doing the job to my specs. They are worth the money!

Boydstun was great! They communicated well, we’re honest and their work is high quality. Staff is very friendly and easy to deal with.

David is so helpful and a talented kitchen designer! We have worked with him twice with beautiful results both times. He listens to you and incorporates other elements that are helpful in design. If you're looking for custom or semi-custom work he is highly recommended.

Boydstun Construction did a small remodeling job in our home last week.
The workers arrived in a timely manner and were extremely efficient. The finished result is everything we expected.
We are very happy with our updated bathroom!

The folks at Boydstun are outstanding and did a fantastic job with my partial-remodel kitchen project. They keep you informed every step of the way and stay true to the original quote. Jon Boydston was very forthright about what he was going to do and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of. I live in a 55+ community so honesty is high on my list. Very happy with the work that was done bringing my kitchen back to a comfortable and attractive place to cook. Yay!

I would like to let folks know what a terrific job Boydstun Construction did remodeling my kitchen, updating the master bathroom, and replacing interior doors. I am so thrilled with the completed work, just had to write a review. From the beginning process with David’s design expertise, Michele’s efficiency in keeping everything organized and on schedule, to the great team of craftsmen who came each day to do the work. They were very courteous, friendly and thoughtful about sharing my space. Stefan, Angelo, Beau and Mike were so polite, answered all my questions and cleaned up the work area each afternoon before leaving. Job was finished within a few days of expected completion date, on budget and turned out just beautiful. I highly recommend this company for any remodel project you may be considering.

Boydstun Construction recently completed a renovation project on my deck enclosure. They did an excellent job! Jon Boydstun is knowledgeable, responsive and easy to work with. He frequently checked in with his crew and constantly monitored the project. His construction crew (Beau, Mike, Stephan) were great. They were professional, diligent, skilled, respectful and communicated well. The office team (Debbie and Michele) were also excellent.
This is my second project with Boydstun Construction and I highly recommend them.

We had a small job installing new lighting in our kitchen, altering a skylight, and putting in a new skylight. We are very happy with the work Boydstun Construction did. They were very organized and got the job done is a timely manner. They had a detailed plan for what would be done each day and they kept to it. The staff was very polite and friendly. We much appreciated the owner Jon meeting with us three times to make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted. If we had another job to be done we would use them and we would highly recommend them to others.

My experience with Boydstun Construction has been stellar. I’ve had three different projects completed by them over the past few years in two different houses. From Jon the boss man, the office staff Michele and Deb, to David the kitchen designer, and to all the construction crew, I can’t say enough good things about this company. They are professionals from start to finish. The fellows working on site are always courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. Boydstun does beautiful work and I highly recommend doing business with them.

I engaged Boydstun Construction to upgrade my upstairs hall bathroom and I am so happy with the results. My vision has come alive and I love my new bathroom. From the beginning to the end of the project, it was very clear to me how integrated the Boydstun team was with a strong customer service focus - from meeting with David to provide guidance on design selections, to the coordinated work at my home to upgrade the tub, toilet, sink, cabinetry, fixtures, electric, lighting and flooring, and including the back office coordination and helpful project updates with Michele and Debbie. I will definitely use Boydstun again when I’m ready to upgrade my master bathroom.

The Boydstun team listened to my vision and worked with me to design and build a sunroom, enclosing a porch I did not use. Great experience. I'm especially pleased that the large windows keepmy view and bring in lots of light. The on site team were efficient, careful, thorough, and communicative. Follow-up and communication from Jon, David, Michele, and Debbie was always prompt and complete. They took my ideas and made my new, smaller apartment liveable for me. I'm still "moving into" the new enclosed sunroom space, but it's working.

Boydstun Construction installed my new kitchen countertops, and made what could have been an overwhelming project smooth and worryfree. The workers were skilled and efficient, kept to the project schedule reliably, and left the area clean. The office staff kept things organized and kept me informed. The results are beautiful!

Our front door had gotten cracks in it and the varnish was peeling badly. Elan did an amazing job making it look better than new! He removed the door, repainted the front wood trim white, then sanded off the varnish, sealed all the cracks and revarnished and rehung the door. The door didn't latch well and he fixed that too. While the varnish was drying between coats he asked if we needed other things done. So he also installed a sprinkler controller for our front yard along with several other smaller projects. Amazing!
Don't hesitate to call Elan. He is prompt, licensed and experienced in so many things and cares about doing the best job possible .

Elan is awesome and his work is very thorough! One of our ceiling fans needed an additional support bar, so he made sure to install the additional part so the fan wouldn’t wobble. He makes sure things are done right the first time! He also wall-mounted our big screen TV and replaced a bathroom faucet. We have plans to have him install a Patio Gazebo for summer. Thanks Elan!!

We recently completed a full kitchen remodel with Dobson Construction, and the experience exceeded our expectations from start to finish. Their personal design service truly stood out—they took the time to understand our vision, preferences, and how we use our space, then translated that into a thoughtful and functional design.

The entire process felt seamless, with clear communication and a well-organized schedule that kept everything moving smoothly. The quality of their work is exceptional, and it shows in every detail. From the beautifully crafted custom cabinetry to the carefully planned lighting, everything was executed with precision and care.

They also use high-quality products, which gives us confidence that our new kitchen will not only look beautiful but also stand the test of time. The finished result is both stunning and practical, and we couldn’t be happier.
