Owner Rod did a home visit for a overhead lighting installation estimate during which we detailed which rooms and how many lights, and he quoted us $6500 for the job, kept calling while we gathered other estimates. We went ahead and asked him to do the job as his estimate was $100 less than the other estimates. He and his team then came to check the dead space and started installing the lights right away. Over the course of the installation, his team added more lights than we had asked for, replaced all of our existing and working lighting even in additional rooms (including the bathroom and the hallway), and put all the lights on dimmer switches, all without clear request or approval from us, and without communication of how it would change the cost. Project took more days than it should have as they would only work for a few hours each day, would leave exposed holes in the sheetrock around light switches despite us asking them to be covered as we have toddler children at home, made many holes in the ceilings, and severely scratched the wood floor by dragging the furniture. Furthermore, the lights were different colors and the switches weren't configured correctly, so we had to ask them to come back to fix them. After expecting an invoice around the estimate of $6500, we were shocked to receive the invoice for $18500 - nearly three times the initial estimate! When we called to have a civil conversation to understand why the invoice was for so much, Rod answered the phone yelling, swearing, and threatening us and our safety and our home. When he eventually calmed down, we asked him to come and do a walk-through to explain the work, but he refused to come. It was clear that he intentionally gave a low-ball estimate to get our business, then took upon themselves to do more work than we had asked for without confirming we were financially able to pay the additional cost, then refused to explain what they did, and when they sent us a bill for vastly more than we had budgeted for, Rod became aggressive and threatening when we confronted him about it. Besides over-charging, they created an unsafe work site - one worker was shocked as they hadn't turned off the power, and Rod cut another worker's finger with a saw, splattering blood on the walls and requiring 12 stitches.
