I own a rental in San Pablo, but recently moved out of state. My 40 some year old tub had a crack on the bottom. Interviewing Jacob, I found he met all of my needs. He was reasonable, gave me lots of pictures as he worked and kept me informed through the whole process. He was patient and willing to be creative which saved me money when we had a problem. Highly recommended! We did a major garage remodel (which required major shoring, excavation and laying a fully new foundation for the house). We also did a kitchen renovation with S&L. Overall we are really happy with the work. We actually met Idan back in 2022, and he is the one who gave us the original idea for how to do the garage - he had a real vision for the place. I didn't immediately go with Idan (my mistake!), and spent 2 years working with other contractors. After our previous contractor received violations from the city, Idan and team were able to pick up the project, fix the mess, and deliver a great finish. The team was very professional in dealing with the many difficult engineers and city inspectors, and they cared about the quality of the work.

Working with Matthew and team was a pleasure. They were knowledgeable, efficient and thorough and did very high quality work!

Finally, a contractor who answers his phone, always gets back to you on time and is incredibly knowledgable! Matthew and his team are exactly the professionals you want to help handle any SF project big or small. Tactful, helpful, efficient and kind.

I'll put it this way. I've only owned two homes but I've overseen the remodeling of over 200 units of housing, so I've worked with a large number of contractors. Quite simply Matthew Kelly is the best I have ever worked with. Bar none. He is everything you would want in a contractor: he's good at what he does, he's honest and he's a good guy.

Matthew and his crew did a great job on a voluntary strengthening project. Clips, brackets, sheer walls and a bunch of excellent strengthening of the framing in our basement.

He got the inspections done with no issues as well.

Each day my husband and I look at our newly remodeled room and smile at each other, we couldn't be more happy with how it turned out! Matthew Kelly helped us realize a dream we had for a very long time, despite design challenges and supply chain issues. Matthew worked very closely with us to keep our project on schedule and withing our budget. Throughout the entire project we had great communication and he always did what he said he was going to do. His team showed up ready to work every day and we were kept in the loop on all of the progress and decisions. We are very happy with both the process and the end result!

Matthew's one of the best contractors I've worked with. He's done several projects for me, including building a fence, outdoor stairs and landing, and framing several rooms. He's always done an outstanding job. He consistently provides updates, clearly explains any issues, and listens to feedback. The work was high quality and projects completed on time, which is definitely a rarity in this industry. Matthew and his team do great work! We selected Matthew Kelly Construction after a referral from friends after several contractors put in bids. This is not the case where the lowest bid wins, instead it was the proposal process that stands out. MK’s attention to detail, estimation, and callouts of risk areas were essential for our project. We required a structural foundation, and shoring to hold our second story deck and roof in place throughout. Other bidders had difficulty articulating a shoring approach. Matthew and his team did a great job proposing a solution. We began with a small pre-construction contract to make sure upper deck cantilever supports were sound - they were, and that reassurance really helped us, esp. when there is so much on the line. Once work began, they did a great job communicating, keeping the jobsite clean, and helping coordinate engineering alignment and inspections. They moved quickly to get things done before the rainy season began. They also helped us implement cripple wall earthquake retrofitting. We are planning to have them do more work for us in a few months.

Matthiew is professional and easy to work with. He terraced a sloped back yard with terracing and retaining walls, railings, and installed faux grass and decomposed granite. He is super responsive and helpful. I recommend him!

Matt & his crew were an absolute godsend. Of the dozens of contractors we interviewed for a renovation project, Matt immediately won us over with his nuanced project plan and his humility in critiquing the potential downsides of each of his strategies. He would often sit on a question for a few days, and come back with a few carefully laid out options on how to proceed on our remodeling. Matthew and team were consistently on time and reliable from beginning to the end of the project and solved our problem! We had water coming in from somewhere so that one of our internal walls was getting wet. We chose Matthew to help diagnose the problem and come up with the solution which was to replace a chunk of siding on our Victorian building. It may have been a smaller project than what other siding experts were looking for (based on their lackluster efforts to give professional estimates or show up) but Matthew treated it like a priority and was efficient and communicative the whole time, which is critical if you, as a customer, have a regular full time job! Matthew and team were professional, communicative, and, in the end, effective, as it is pouring rain and all of it is staying outside of the building, where it belongs. Sealed up like a duck's butt!

Matthew helped us with various projects at our house before we moved in, including a driveway reconstruction and some foundation and post repairs. He was very communicative, confirming what work we did and did not want as they went. The work was completed on time and on budget. Very accommodating of our questions and needs, would recommend.

Details: we contracted with Matthew for an earthquake retrofit project for our SF house built in 1907. Matthew's estimate was high quality, clear, and professional. His communication is very good, always kept us informed of progress, when there'd be work happening, when there'd be a pause and why. He handled the city inspections, interactions with the design firm, coordination with the foundation testing firm --- all went like clockwork. When there was the potential for unexpected hiccups, he gave us a heads up. His crew were polite and timely. They kept the place clean during the job and cleaned up super nicely at the end. Most importantly, the retrofit got done thoroughly. The project overall came in about 10% above initial estimate and took about 10 % longer than originally expected. Both of which I consider super good. Recommend highly with no reservations!
