Deck Builder reviews in San Rafael, California

Recently I had a fence replaced by Clough Construction and the whole experience, from start to finish was fantastic. The estimate process was quick and simple. They understood exactly what kind of fence I wanted. the price was great: I thought they might be a little more expensive because they're local and the pictures on their website were kind of fabulous. Ultimately, the price was great. I could tell they were very professional when they had 2 separate people check for utility lines. They were actually able to start building sooner than originally anticipated and the whole thing was done in 2 1/2 or 3 days. It's beautiful and rock solid. Rafa's carpentry and attention to detail is really unusually good. My fence is beautiful and I love it. Highest possible recommendation for Clough and crew.

Clough Construction is both a highly professional company and one that produces quality work in a timely manner. Their staff and construction team are well trained and take pride in a "job well done" - finished on time with close attention to all details. I highly recommend them.

Clough Construction is definitely up to the challenge. I know my hillside deck was too much of a challenge for many deck builders. It was not an easy job. On the other hand every time I threw them (an owner) curve ball they hit it out of the park. They adapted to my requests. I gave them a rough sketch in which I used one of my dinner plates to out line the perimeter of a curved deck and honestly my deck has exceeded my highest expectations. Their crew of guys are top notch. We actually all hugged each other when the job was done. They were very proud of their work. You can't go wrong with Clough.

For 20+ years, Scott and Deanne Clough, a top-notch duo, have consistently brought a thoughtful, honest, and creative approach to our many decking and fencing projects - - small, medium, and large. Scott has a great design sensibility, is strong in creative problem-solving (our home is on a hillside), and sensitive to budgetary needs. You will be in thoughtful, caring hands with Clough Construction and their team that goes the extra mile!

Clough Construction did an amazing job on my deck, ripping out and replacing the old one that was very hazardous. The guys (and gals in the office) are ALWAYS professional...Scott came out, ON TIME on our initial visit, explained the entire process clearly, did ALL of the work according to the permits and codes, the craftsmanship is unbelievable and the efficiency of the crew were working together as a unified whole. After interviewing 7 "businesses" that claim to "do decks", Clough Construction was the very EASY CLEAR choice. Don't go to anyone else, seriously, one contractor let his hunting dog loose on my property not knowing that I have cats and that we have a fox family that lives on our property.....and that the dog "left me a present" that the contractor refused to pick up only telling his dog "good boy". Don't get the clowns, seriously, Scott Clough is the only one, and his team, I trust. They are the efficient, self reliant, quick, efficient, and each member of the crew has an understanding of what true craftsmanship isand sense of detail.

Top notch contractor with 40 years of experience installing decks and fences. They specialize in fire-resistant materials and creating defensible spaces.

We have used Clough Construction for over ten years. Not only are they responsive to our needs and creative in their solutions, they have provided us with a number of high quality construction projects. The outdoor deck that they built for us over ten years ago is still there and holding up very well through many seasons of rain and harsh sun. We couldn't be happier with their work.

I highly recommend Clough Construction. They recently built a fence and gate for us and it turned out beautiful. Deanne and Blake went out of their way to make sure we were happy with every detail. They really went above and beyond. We have worked with a variety of contractors over many years and have never had a better experience or one that even comes close. I was worried they would be expensive because they are so highly rated by everyone, so we got competitive bids, including a “cheap” company a neighbor recommended. Clough’s bid was right in the middle, just a little more than the “cheap” company. They showed up on time. All the workers were polite and professional. They stayed on schedule and the project looks great.

Clough Construction competed two separate horizontally-hung redwood fences for us totaling 150+ feet as well as a cable deck railing. The first fence had many grade changes and the product was fantastic. The horizontal boards lined up perfectly and the the steps in the top of the fence were artfully done. The second fence went in after our landscaping was complete. I did not have to replace a single plant. The crew was considerate, very hard working and professional.

Overall very good experience- the office communication and responsiveness translated to the job site and we even though we as clients went through several changes during the planning of the project, everything was well managed and clear when the work began.

Thanks Clough!

Clough Construction is the best. They built our deck and fence a number of years ago, exceeding our expectations for both design and quality. Scott had excellent suggestions including a design feature to unify different fence designs and adding a raised planting bed next to the deck. Recently we had an issue with critters entering the crawl space from under the deck and Deanne sent a person to temporarily remove the decking adjacent to the house in order that a pest control company could deal with the issue. Afterwards she sent the person back to replace the decking. All of this without charging us for the service. We highly recommend them.

Clough Construction are known to our neighborhood now as the Wood Whisperers. All of their guys are incredible artisans, at the height of their craft, who produce the most beautiful work regardless of the awkwardness of the problems they face. We had 2 months with Quinn and Lol replacing our wraparound redwood deck, who are Incredibly nice people with the best work ethic I've had the pleasure to experience. Would re-hire them in a heartbeat and would wait a year for them to be free, if they were booked up, rather than use an inferior company. They are that good, and that worth it. Wonderful family run company with honest, hard working people captained by the lovely Deanne and Scott, who made the whole experience of installing complicated decking in Tiburon a lot less painful than it could easily have been.

I cannot express to everyone how lucky we were to have found and selected Clough Construction to repair our deck. We found them through Yelp and Next Door positive recommendations, now we know why. We contacted them, Scott Clough came by to look at the problem we were having with our deck, made a thorough inspection, and gave us his recommendation. We had a few other contractors come by and hands down we knew Clough Construction was going to be our choice because of Scott’s honesty and expertise in what we needed to resolve our problem of supporting our deck. The result was perfection and we are thankful and happy for their professionalism from calling Deaonne with scheduling and explaining what their company represents, to Mark and his assistant who completed the work. We are extremely happy with the results and will definitely call them again when we have another project. They are quick to respond, have excellent work ethics, take pride in their work, and follow up immediately afterwards to make sure we were satisfied with the work. They are a local business and, a plus, which I wasn’t aware of, when you do business with them you are also supporting the Marin School of Environmental Leadership (MSEL) and the World Wildlife Fund. An extra plus! We highly recommend Clough Construction and their team if you care about excellent customer service and quality work!

Clough Construction does top notch work. I can't say enough good things about them. They pay attention to every detail to ensure that the design and construction is the best possible, no matter the situation or unexpected complications. They show up on time and deliver on their promises. They also source sustainable materials whenever possible. We had an old porch that was rotting. Clough replaced it with a new redwood deck, making it fit seamlessly with our old framing and existing roof. We love it!

Clough construction is the epitome of quality craftsmanship and professionalism. They constructed a fence for our business and did such a great job that we hired them to build a custom glass fence in our backyard overlooking the water.

We could not be more satisfied with their work! I would recommend them to anyone!

Been meaning to write this for a while. Quite a few years ago -- like 10 -- Clough Construction replaced my old rotting deck with a new one at my house in Sausalito. The deck is perfect with no complaints. Some months ago I noticed that water was seeping into my living room which adjoins the deck as a few spots of flooring were showing signs of warping. I called Clough thinking perhaps the deck was the problem. Even though this kind of thing (house leaks) isn't really something Clough does, they came out to help me figure out what the problem was. Turns out the problem was the that the water was seeping in around the edges of the floor to ceiling windows. Not only did they identify the problem, but their man went back to his truck, came back with caulk and re-applied caulk to all of the windows around the deck. Took him probably half an hour. Would have taken me three! I then called Clough to thank them and pay the bill. Instead they just said this one is one us, glad we were able to fix the problem. That's customer relations commitment like one rarely sees. Highly, very highly recommend Clough for any project you might have.

I absolutely LOVE my new front yard picket fence built by Clough Construction! I had a design in mind and Scott grasped my vision perfectly, and improved upon it. The fence turned out better than I imagined. The Clough crew was extremely professional, kind, hard-working, neat, and so skilled! True artisans. The foreman on my project has worked for Clough for ~25 years... that shows me that they take good care of their employees. I loved having their guys around for the week and was bummed to say goodbye at the end, but thrilled about my front yard “facelift”.

Btw, this was the 2nd fence I’d had built by Clough. The other one was done 10 years ago and is good as new... zero problem. You can’t go wrong with Clough Construction!

This month Clough Construction repaired several of our garden fences. New supports and gates were added. Beginning with our first phone call, the company organized and completed the job seamlessly. We could not have been more satisfied!
Clough Construction is one of the rare companies in business today operating with integrity and personal attention to every detail. We cannot recommend them enough!

We just finished a very large deck project with Clough Construction. We replaced our fence first, which was an easy process. Our decks were not so easy and Clough handled everything professionally, promptly and perfectly! From permits to completion, I couldn't have asked for a better team. We have gorgeous decks that are beautiful and solid. We have gotten used to seeing the crew outside our windows every day, but will think of them for years to come. This process couldn't have been better! Thank you Clough Construction team!

We just completed a 3-month project to replace 2 wrap-around decks and are thrilled with the results. The process went smoothly. Scott came out to assess the project right away. Deanne and the office staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive. We were confident from the start that our project would be done correctly and without worry.

Quinn and Lowell, our team, are both highly skilled, hard-working, positive, and focused on every detail. They were a pleasure to have here. The site was cleaned up every day, and they even, when possible, went out of their way to keep access open to our yard for our dogs. Quinn led the project and clearly is a true craftsman who takes pride in his work. I would definitely welcome Quinn and Lowell to do another project at our home in the future.

I highly recommend Clough Construction

In 2004 Clough replaced our upper deck and it still looks awesome. This year (2021) they designed and built a new lower deck and added our special place.....the CATIO ... a beautiful redwood and screen mini-lodge built especially for us and our cats. Clough Construction does fabulous work. We could not be happier. Thanks to Scott, Deanne, Forest and the whole team.

I have used Clough construction for a deck repair and a short retaining wall. They are reliable, efficient, on time and do quality work. They are honest and a pleasure to work with. They are not the cheapest way to go but in construction projects you get what you pay for. They make it a point to inform you about their insurance and adherence to workman's comp laws. If you hire them you can be assured that your project will be done correctly and on time. I highly recommend them.
