Gary and Jorge began by arriving on time. Gary reviewed the situation, a water leak in a pipe under a foundation wall and patio slab. This meant that the leak itself was under the foundation wall and patio slab. The pipe's origin was under the house (not a slab, but a raised foundation). I suggested that they might want to consider simply cutting the pipe under the house, abandoning it, and installing a new pipe from the same source and extending it through a ventilation vent in the foundation and attaching the new pipe to the part of the old one in the yard. Gary agreed that this was the fastest and most cost effective solution. Two hours later, the job was finished. The cost was appropriate for two men working for two hours, including copper pipe and other copper and bronze fittings. This is our second experience with Gem Plumbing of Sierra Madre, California, both with very successful outcomes.

NO FREE ESTIMATE! One star because I could not give zero star!! The reason for the call was “no hot water from the shower”. The plumber came and turned on the water for both showers and one sink. After less than 10 minutes, he told me it’s probably the valve inside the shower. So after he changed the valve, the problem should be fixed! We proceeded to set the date for next appointment.

I trusted the plumber’s assessment only to find out the next day that.. if we just turn the knob less than half way, the water temp is HOT! I believe the plumber who came was an experienced one with the way he talked to me. Therefore there are only two reasons for a second appointment to chang the valve: 1. He took advantage of my ignorance to charge more money. 2. He is incompetent and could not tell the difference on how different showers work.

I was charged close to $120 for 10 minutes of nothing!

Daily the drivers are speeding through adjoining neighborhoods and nearly running over pedestrians. If their company values are anything like the drivers they hire I'd stay far, far away from Gem Plumbing for your own safety.

I was not at all pleased with the entire experience from scheduling to the knowledge and work being done.
Work was scheduled to be done on Monday. When no one showed up on Monday I called and was told it was scheduled on Thursday. I received no notice of the reschedule.
I requested the installation of a pressure regulator and that was printed on the work order. The plumber (Isaac) installed a pressure relief valve instead. When asked about the pressure limit on the relief valve he didn’t know. He proceeded to measure the line pressure (80 PSI) and told me that was the pressure limit of the valve. After a closer inspection I saw the valve limit was 150 PSI.
I called the office and they sent him out to install a pressure regulator as initially requested. When that was completed I asked how I could adjust the pressure if needed. The plumber was unable to tell me how to adjust the pressure limits.
I wasn’t charged labor for the second visit, but I was still charged for the parts that I didn’t request, didn’t need, and will likely require service in the future.

Gem Plumbing is awesome! I am glad I found them over 10 years ago. I can count on them for all my plumbing and air conditioning needs at a moments notice. It's important to be able to find a well experienced plumber and one that you can trust! Everyone is so helpful and friendly. Thank you.

Our 25+ years of very good experience with Gem destroyed by an utterly incompetent dispatcher.

We contacted Gem to have our water heater replaced. Provided the dispatcher with photos of our old water heater, model/maker information, and water heater location. We requested an Energy Star model. We were quoted an "out of the door" price. When the plumbers show up, they brought a water heater with an incorrect dimension which required modification to the water lines. We tacitly agreed to the modification as we tried to accommodate Gem as we, up to this point, have had a very good experience with them for 25+ years. After the modification was made, we discovered the water heater was NOT Energy Star. We halted the work and requested a phone call from the dispatcher to find out why the two mistakes. Long story short, we receive no reply until THREE DAYS LATER. We found another plumber to finish the work.

Gem sent us a bill for the modification which was resulted from the dispatcher's mistake. $845 for removing old water heater and re-routing water lines.

We reached out to Gem. Hoping to have a solution to this as we were basically held responsible for Gem's mistakes. No luck.

Well, we paid the bill as we see no benefit to escalating this and prefer to move on with our life.

However, we will NEVER use Gem again, will not refer Gem to anyone, and would discourage anyone from working with Gem.

I called GEM regarding a hot water heater issue on Saturday morning. By noon, the GEM technician was at my house with available parts, and helpful instruction. Thank you Richard for your professionalism and prompt assistance on a weekend.
