We hired Backyard Art Landscape to install a new deck + rail and pavers on an area that originally had concrete and it had deteriorated significantly
Alex and his crew were really easy to work with; polite, constant and clear communication.
There were a few surprises found once the concrete was removed, but Alex found a solution for everything that came up.
The installation was done very quick, the crew was always at my house by 6:50 am and ready to begin work at 7:00am, they routinely worked until 6:00pm Monday-Saturday.
They always left the site clean at the end of every day. And they even helped me get ride of additional trash I had in my backyard, unrelated to this project.
Alex came by almost every day to check on the progress and quality. He is very detailed oriented and made sure I was updated on the progress.
The work was completed ahead of schedule and to my complete satisfaction.
Our friends have complimented our new deck and patio.
I highly recommend Backyard Art Landscape for your next project. -
Loved our experience with Backyard Art. Our pergola, fence and flagstone patio was done well and on time! Alex and his foreman always ensured to ask where there were questions and when I had some special requests for minute details, they were definitely responsive and accommodating. I would go with Backyard Art again!!

Edit: It’s August now and still no response from Backyard Art. I now have about 11 plants that are not doing well or dead. The estimated cost to fix all the planting that was done incorrectly is nearly $3000+ the cost of the new plants which are quite expensive. Do not trust this company. I am beside myself that I spent about $27,000 and now I’m gonna have to spend another $3500+ to fix all of their mistakes. He said, planting with rocks around the plants was fine, but I would not have half of my yard dying if that were the case.
I do not recommend this company at all.
I continue to reach out to see if they will honor their warranty, but they will not respond. Some of the plants were already showing signs of not doing well when the field manager was there last but he didn’t take a look at the plants or any show concern. It feels like the company has received their full payment and so they just don’t care anymore ($27,000 in!)
If you have hired them to do work DO NOT give them any large sums of money near the end before the work is completely done to your satisfaction, because they will move on to the next big money making job and stop responding.
Also, any warranty is questionable as I have asked and they won’t specify exactly what the warranty is or what it covers. It seems they don’t want to warranty anything. -
Esau and the Backyard Art Landscape crew are extremely efficient and priced reasonably. I am so grateful that he was able to inspect my yard and complete the work in such a timely manner. I highly recommend them!

Update: as of three months post project, we’ve had to pay $4500 to fix the mistakes backyard art has made. Additionally, we’ve had two expensive pines die which is going to cost us $2000 more. So $6500 so far to fix the issues from their botched project. One of our pines had no spaghetti attachments attached so the water just flowed from a large drip line which I imagine didn’t help. The other line had three attachments and shouldn’t have had so many. Plus they were not planted in a good place due to drainage. Our dogwood also struggles because it wasn’t planted in a good area and gets too much sun. This company does NOT have the know how to make decisions on more advanced landscaping.
If you are doing a complex project do not hire them. My already expensive project has turned into a much more expensive project to fix everything and Backyard won’t respond about their warranty for anything or fix anything. I feel very taken advantage of.
I wish I didn't have to give this review, but we did not have a good experience.
There was many hiccups along the way, and we tried to be patient. The manager was not around enough to catch mistakes. We were the ones that had to catch the mistakes and ask for it to be fixed. I got scolded for checking on the project (that I was spending $30,000 on) that he was barely checked on. Several days after I brought an issue to his attention, he would come by and correct his guys finally. This is probably the reason, they had to dissemble the pergola 2-3 times to do basic things like shape and stain the wood, ect.
Workers installed sod and didn't bother testing the sprinklers. He couldn't be bothered to call us back or take our call because "it was the weekend."
Bushes that were the same size were planted at different depths right beside each other and looked terrible. They said it's correct and won't fix it. He said he would have to start charging me to do work twice (for work they didn't do correctly).
Unfortunately, since we have now paid for the project, they are unmotivated and unwilling to fix the last items to close out our project. We asked them when they would fix the remaining items before the final walk through. They said, "we have other priorities (new projects), the work is done."
We are shocked that for $30,000, they can't adjust something they planted wrong and finish basic grout work on our $10,000 patio (that he himself acknowledged they missed grout in areas despite showing him 2 times), or cover weed barriers. So we asked them to bring the rest of the grout back so we had it to fix.
If you cannot check on your jobs or staff to ensure the you are doing quality work, you should not be taking on $30,000 projects. And we should not be treated bad for having reasonable expectations as to the quality and final outcome.
Update-
Backyard Art showed up unexpectedly for a final walk through. We had tried to confirm the walk through numerous times and he wouldn’t reply. Luckily, we were home.
The walk through didn’t go well. They were unwilling to remedy the remaining items. Finally he said he’d come back in 8 weeks to fix grout that was missed.
Since then, I’ve emailed and messaged Esau to request more information on their warranty. He will not email me the warranty information or respond to my requests to take care of plants that are not doing well/or are dead.
So, we have called another professional landscaper who completed a walkthrough of our yard today, to get help. This landscaper says the trees are planted too low, and there should not be rock around the bottom of the trees or plants. And the plants are not spaced appropriately. They are placed too close together. I have at least three plants/bushes that are dead and two expensive pines that are not doing well. -
Esau and his guys were amazing! We hired them to do a patio and pergola in our backyard, a patio out front, and some fencing on both sides of the house to close in the yard. We could not have been happier with their work! All the costs and timelines were thoroughly explained up front and were accurate to what we were quoted in the beginning. They started the job when he said and finished in the timeline he said it would take. Esau was very accommodating about a last minute change we decided to make and was able to do it with no disruption to the work that was already in progress. The crew he had at our house was incredibly hard working. All in all, I would absolutely recommend this company and we might even call on their services again for some landscaping work in the future. I've included some before and after phots. I didn't have a before photo of the front, but you'll have to take my word that the patio that was there was awful!

Esau and his crew did a great job. Our project was the removal of an old wooden deck and replacing it with a paver patio. Our backyard is sloped so a retaining wall was built and area leveled . We are very pleased with the final product. Crew was polite and jobsite clean.

My wife & I hired Backyard Art to install grass, a sprinkler system, bushes, a breezeway, extend our concrete walk-out patio, & additional landscaping rock. Esau and his team did a great job with prompt communication and finished on the quoted timeline. As a new build we had zero backyard but now have a great space to enjoy for years to come.

After getting 6 other estimates I hired Backyard Art Landscaping to do my backyard. Esau Anton was great to work with. His crew put in the irrigation system, sod, planted trees and shrubs and put in additional top soil, fill dirt and mulch. They also put in a retaining wall, wood planters and the railing around the deck. The crew were here every morning by 7am and worked hard until 5 or 5:30. They were friendly, always cleaned up at the end of each day and did excellent work. I felt Esau listened to what I wanted and had excellent ideas.
I am very happy with the finished project and highly recommend Backyard Art Landscaping! -
My husband and I couldn’t be happier with the work Esau and his team at Backyard Art did for us! They were extremely hardworking and transformed our backyard beyond our expectations. The crew cleared out the space, leveled it, installed irrigation, and laid down beautiful sod. They also completed precise edging and added rock and mulch, giving everything a polished and professional look.
One detail we really appreciated was that they put up temporary fencing to protect the new sod from our dogs, ensuring it had time to establish properly. Their attention to detail and commitment to quality truly set them apart. We are thrilled with the results and will continue to use Backyard Art for all of our landscaping needs. Highly recommend! -
Esau and crew did amazing job completely transformed our back yard! Work was top notch, crew busted their butts in 90+ degree weather and finished on time and above expectations. Esau was great to work with and very accommodating to any changes we asked for. Couldn't have asked for more!

They’ve done amazing work for us several times. They always show up on time. They always complete the work. And they always have honesty and integrity.
-
Seemed like nice enough people, but they never bothered to send a quote or do any sort of follow up with me. Contacted them multiple times and was blown off.
