I’ve used S&S Tarnow the last couple years and feel like I got completely ripped off. I was paying $95/yard for river rock, and even this year at $75/yard it’s still way overpriced. I went to Plaza Excavation today and got 1.5 yards for $37.50 total.
Even worse, I now question whether I was getting a full yard at Tarnow. I asked before and was told they use “1-yard buckets,” but based on what I learned elsewhere, that doesn’t seem accurate.
On top of that, the rock I got from Tarnow was full of dirt.
Between the pricing, quality, and quantity concerns, I wouldn’t recommend them at all. Definitely shop around.

Proceed with caution per our experience.
This review reflects my personal experience with this contractor. I recommend obtaining a copy of their proof of insurance, having a detailed written contract, and confirming all payment terms before any work begins.
In our case, we were asked to pay in cash or make checks out to our own name rather than the contractor’s business entity. We didn’t realize this might be a red flag, but I’d suggest others clarify all payment details and ensure that checks are made payable to the business entity (not an individual) to protect themselves should any issues arise.
I was dissatisfied with how the project was handled. Some work did not match what I understood to be our agreement (including the invoices themselves), and there was damage to our property ( ). Portions of the work that differed from the contract (as invoiced) were not covered under warranty, even though the company’s website referenced a warranty policy. The products they said were under warranty were not replaced or refunded, despite multiple requests (and after spending over $30k with them). I offered to resolve the matter through the contractor’s insurance, but proof of coverage was not provided. I was also billed for services I did not authorize.
The experience was costly and stressful, especially since the work was for an elderly family member recovering from a stroke. We ultimately had to hire another contractor to replace the work from our last contract and correct the work completed under one of the contracts, resulting in more than tripling the costs. We asked for detailed contracts, and we're told to write the details. There weren't professional style contacts which should have been red flags. Asked for the certificate of insurance, and did not revieve them. The invoices were written after the fact and were usually just emails. Every request they had to discuss the issues were in person requests, when I was traveling for work 100% of the time. The warranty on hardscape as others have noted was not honored.
After a year of written attempts to resolve these issues, we were unable to reach an agreement, so I filed a small claims case to recover what I believe are my losses. The experience was costly and stressful, especially since the work was for an elderly family member recovering from a stroke. I wish I had read all the online reviews on Yelp and Google more carefully. Based on my experience, I would not hire this contractor again and recommend others proceed carefully.
