These guys are fast, responsive and a quality team. Knocked out my turf job (45ft x 20ft) with ease and it looks fantastic. Highly recommend.

Jorge and his team did an outstanding job turning my backyard “jungle” into a nice enjoyable yard for the kids to play. I would not hesitate to call Economy Grass Systems for my next job.

UPDATE: There is a response here, supposedly from the owner. They say that can't find a record of the job and I should call them to resolve the issue. The job is on Channing way in Berkeley, and was just completed, exactly as described. The phone number given is the owner's cell (Jorge). Even though he already refused to come back to complete his work properly, I called it. He answered and knew nothing about the google reviews response. When I told him, he laughed and reiterated that he's not coming back. This is clearly a paid social media curator with no regular contact with the Owner and I will bet, fake positive reviews. I'll see if I can file a complaint.

I hired Jorge to install artificial grass for a dog play area, and to reset flagstone pavers in my yard in Berkeley. His price was MUCH lower than others, and I was concerned because his website and social media are such a mismatch with the vibe I was getting from him personally. His site has a hundred or more local projects, all with glowing reviews. But when I tried for days to get references to look at or speak with, he kept resisting. Finally he gave me several, and one of them gave an excellent and clearly very authentic review. When I called her back to tell her about my experience, she apologized and admitted that she had to threaten to fire him in the middle of the job, after which he performed well.

Jorge and his crew showed up intent on completing—in one day— a job that everyone else had scheduled at least two days for. I don’t even think they had tape measures or pencils with them. They just threw things down, eyeballed and made border cuts over their knees. But they are very skilled at doing an acceptable Turf job quickly, if supervised closely, and if everything goes perfectly smoothly. Jorge has already complained that I micromanaged them, but it’s fortunate that I did— in many instances. They installed a very cheap, shiny weed block fabric on top of the prepared base, and were rolling the turf right over the top of it. I tried to spray water through a piece and it was almost like plastic sheeting. Jorge claimed drainage of rainwater and urine would occur “through the nail holes"!!! Fortunately, I had them remove the fabric, or it would have been a serious problem.

My artificial turf will probably be fine, I went into this with low expectations, and I saved a lot of money going with Jorge. The real problem I have is with the flagstone they re-installed on a pathway from the turf area to a gate. I paid to have this re-done because the stone had been put down directly over weed block fabric on soil, and all the stones were wobbling and cracking. Jorge agreed in writing to put the same compacted 4” base rock and DG under it that they put under the turf, and any fabric should have gone under that base. But they put down a sprinkling of base material and started reinstalling the flagstones directly over weed block. I complained that it would all wobble and crack like it had the last time, but he said it would be fine. As soon as they left, I saw that the stones are already loose and also that they are much lower than the adjacent Turf and border. This is going to be a tripping hazard every time we walk from the turf to the gate, and is going to cause the wood border trim to deteriorate very quickly. Jorge has refused to return and correct this to match what he had agreed to in writing and been paid for.

Jorge’s crew is competent for basic turf installation if you supervise closely and are willing to accept some compromises for the lower price. But I wouldn’t have them do any other kind of work. Even cutting and nailing the wood and plastic border boards was almost beyond their level of skill and patience. And they don’t really care whether they leave behind incompetent work as long as they get in and out in the short time they have allotted for the job, and get a check.

I’m sure Jorge (or his Social Media consultant), will respond strongly to this review. I look forward to the back and forth, and only hope they don’t have a method for blocking it.

Jorge and his team did an incredible job laying artificial turf at our Association Football Club Performance Center in Oakland. The team was professional, work was done quickly and with the highest quality at a reasonable cost. Would highly recommend them for any artificial turf project. We will use them again for future projects.

Jorge and his crew did an amazing job transforming our sad, shady side yard where grass could not grow into a really beautiful space. The turf looks like real grass and is actually warmer and more comfortable than grass (and does not require watering). They expertly worked around our trees and plants. We will definitely hire them again.

Jorge and the team were skilled, efficient, professional and kind. Our job was 1500 sqft under a 200 year old oak. They transformed a mess of decayed leaves, wood chips and weeds to a beautiful outdoor living space. DM me if you want to see it. It’s beautiful!!!!

Jorge did an amazing job on our backyard. We had a strip of dirt, a bunch of rocks and an older planters box. He removed everything and installed artificial turf and it totally transformed our backyard! He was incredibly efficient as well, finishing in 2 days! I’ll definitely be coming back to him to do our front yard soon.

Jorge was great. Quick response and completed the job above my expectations in only 2 days (estimated to be 3). He removed old thick concrete planter box frame, placed new cement in the area. Cleared trees and thick roots. And placed pavers for a bbq area.

Jorge was attentive to many details throughout each phase of the job and was on site the entire time which was important to us. From the construction and leveling, to the edge control where the grass met the sidewalk and our garden edging, it was all done quickly and with care and thoughtfulness.

Jorge also had a really competitive bid. To be fair artificial grass is never cheap, but Jorge provided us with a very fair quote.

Our bid included removing the old grass sprinkler system and replacing our garden bed with drip irrigation. We didn’t realize it at the time, but one of the pipes was not plugged properly and a couple days after he left we realized we had a big water leak. My husband contacted Jorge and Jorge promptly returned early the following morning to fix the leak.

Our new lawn looks amazing and has gotten many compliments from the neighbors. It is now our dogs favorite place to hang out and my son loves kicking his soccer ball around. It was fun watching Jorge and his team work with such speed and precision. 5 STARS from us!!

Very pleased with our artificial grass and pavers. We called on a Friday evening and got an in person quote the same day. Two weeks later we had the whole job complete in only one day. Very impressed and it looks fantastic!

Great work converting our backyard concrete surface into an amazing soccer turf field. They also did an excellent job on the front yard entrance with paved brick staircases and two pillars with posts. They were very thorough in explaining the differences between turf options, made great recommendations, and brought all the turf samples so we could make a perfect decision. Everything was very well done and nicely finished.

WOW! I am SO impressed. I have to admit, I was a little worried, as this company is pretty young. However, Jorge has actually done this work for 10+ years. He and his team really DO know what they’re doing. These animal shelter “mini-coops” desperately needed a refresh. They went the extra mile and got this done in one (long) day, for the least disruption to the shelter. And what a thorough and beautiful job they did. The price was also the best, by far. So happy to support a local Oakland small business. I highly recommend Jorge and Economy Grass Systems!
