Landscaping reviews in Chicago, Illinois
-
i hurt my back and my yard became very overgrown while i was laid up. i finally decided it was more than i alone could handle, and contacted fresh cutz. i heard back from daniel quickly, and had a quote soon after that. the price was fair and the crew did an amazing job-- they spent all day on the cleanup + weed treatment and it's a new yard-- looks better than when i moved in.
communication was great and the crew was really considerate, texting me photos (i was out of town) and ensuring the gate was closed (we have dogs), etc.
thank you SO much daniel + team. the before and after is amazing and i feel incredibly relieved. appreciate your hard work! highly recommend. -
Needed a new, bigger pot for a house plant. Not much of a selection, but okay, it is February!

The girl who works at return and replace counter is sooooooo RUDE. We need help with checkout, and we stated VERY RUDELY to go at the checkout.... DON'T WANT TO VISIT AGAIN EVER AFTER....

There garden area is large and in the spring they expand out into the parking lot for better variety. Easy access from two major roads.

This home Depot has a great selection of plants and garden supplies at good prices its where we always go for our gardening needs.
-
The best garden/plant options of the Chicago Home Depot locations. North Ave is always picked over while Skokie location always has smaller, less developed plants. If you need plants - go to this location!

I've given these guys a glance for years and wondered how a store like this could exist where it does. It's because they're awesome. Friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging staff. HUGE selection of plants that are well taken care of. Even if I move elsewhere in the city, I'll still be making a yearly pilgrimage here.

I LOVE it here. I'm a novice when it comes to plants and I always ask 101 questions and they answer them all with a smile on their face. The prices are beyond great and they have pots of every color. Don't be fooled, they have indoor and outdoor plants!

Great spot; huge selection, quality plants.
Would 100% recommend. -
Went here to hopefully find something for Mothers Day a week or two back. Don't know much besides plants are green. All staff there was very nice and knowledgeable and was able to walk out with 2 nice gift for mom and bought myself something too. Would recommend for anyone in the area, everything looked healthy and reasonably priced.

If I had a plant for every time I've been here, I'd have a lot less plants.. because I can never buy just one. Friendly staff, rotating stock, and they got that good good that my plants crave. The only negative thing I have to say is they wont let me put a bed in the middle of the store.

First time here yesterday. This place seems more geared towards outdoor gardens, but they still did have a nice variety of houseplants and decorations. I didn't buy anything yesterday but I'm going to go back for a cylindrical snake plant. They are the only place I've seen with this varients. I also saw a pitcher plant here for the first time in person!

For the purpose of context I'm visibly 8 months pregnant and denying pregnant woman and folks with medical conditions when an employee restroom exists is illegal in illinois ( Ally's Law: Restroom Access Act 2005)
I went to the farmers market today with the intent on buying a bunch of foliage to deck out my patio and at this point in most pregnancies you have to go pretty regularly. I asked an associate if I could use their restroom and they said they needed to check. At that point I had gotten really uncomfortable and the associate told me that they were told that they don't make exceptions. Normally I don't write negative reviews about places but it blew my mind that empathy and compassion couldn't be found here. I will say the associate was really nice and apologetic and told me to go to a nearby grocery store but the fact that an exception couldn't be made was disheartening and I'll just spread the word take my business elsewhere.
Gethsemane on Clark is amazing if you're looking for a similar garden center. -
Would highly recommend this place. Awesome selection and super attentive, friendly, and helpful staff. A few of the staff helped me out, but Alicia especially answered tons of questions and spent a lot of time with me. I found a few large and small plants that I bought and got great advice for taking care of them.

I am not from Chicago, but this shop was recommended to me by a local friend, so I came by to check it out. I drove up, saw a sign pointing to parking, and pulled into the far back gate, when some men in the lot started hollering at me and waving at me, incoherently. I was told "no parking" here, which is confusing, because the gate was open and the big green sign outside the business is pointing right into the lot stating "PARKING"... A rather rude greeting from the men, making me feel as if I did something wrong, when I was just following signs. There was huge bags of trash all over the place and my car didn't make it far anyways, so my mistake was made apparent rather quickly.
I proceeded inside, and the shop was lovely enough. I was looking for a Raven ZZ, and was pointed to the back hallway where there stood one, extremely sad looking, $100+ Raven. For that price, the plant should at least look good, this thing was terrible looking! I was also sad to see only one of them, but I get they might not be available, so no worries there.
As I was checking out the smaller ZZ plants on the shelf against the wall, which looked great and were priced well, there was a huge commotion in the room directly behind me, that sounded like some women arguing loudly enough that I could hear exactly what they were saying, and was a huge deterrent to my shopping experience. It wasn't pleasantries by any means, but straight up arguing and yelling at each other, bordering on screaming at each other.
A really uncomfortable shopping experience. I promptly left the premise without buying anything.
The only redeeming factor was the kindness and warmth of the girl watering plants when I walked in. She was super friendly and chipper and was a nice cushion that softened the abrasiveness of the initial experience with parking, and the shouting in the back that made me walk out the door. Two stars for that girl, otherwise would have been a 1 star experience. -
Very very organized and well run by incredibly helpful and nice folks. The social distancing guidelines are well in place. And as always, their selection is varied, healthy and beautiful. If you drive just be prepared to walk a few blocks being as their parking area is currently unavailable and street parking can be a bit challenging. But well worth the short walk and you can easily pick up your purchases curb side. (The guys in the pick up area are awesome). 👍👍👍

I look forward to spring every year because of this place! Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable. They are a little expensive, but I think it is worth is because their products are either higher quality - like the balcony baskets which were more expensive but way sturdier than the ones at home depot - or the garden plants that are just "nicer" - or very unique.
They have unique art and houseplants you won't find at home depot and are my goto for nice gifts. -
This place is great! Such a huge variety of plants! Was able to score a couple really cool carnivorous babies for a big terrarium! Emmy (i hope i spelled that right) was super helpful and knew just how to get me on the right path with a couple plants and was so kind! Take all my money!

I love the place but unfortunately this year every single plant that I bought had an infestation of some sort. Outdoor annuals I got spider mites, aphids, and fungus gnats. With the indoor plant (calathea) that I bought I got soil mealy bugs. I may have gotten the aphids with a plant from another store, though I know for certain that I got the other infestations from this store. With most of my plants I had powdery mildew. I’m concerned for all of my other indoor plants. I’ve just let my outdoor plants live out their lives because I tried my best to treat the infestations, to no avail. I’m sure most plant stores have this problem, it’s hard to control these pests but after I knew what to look for it was easier to spot. I think it would be a good idea for the staff to check regularly and sell healthy plants rather than leave us find out the hard way. Like I said, I love the store and the staff are great but this year’s selection just brought so many problems with it for me. Fingers crossed for a better year next year.

Tara was so helpful when we arrived to the store in a panicked frenzy to find the perfect plant and pot for a present. She was patient and listened to what we were looking for. The plant offerings are amazing and the staff is so knowledgeable. We landed on a Aglaonema Stripes (Chinese evergreen) houseplant and plan to come back to buy the same plant for our home. Absolutely stunning and the leaves were all so healthy!

This is absolutely my #1 garden store in Chicago. It’s a beautiful plant shoppe with a large and healthy variety! For real. So many species! If you are purchasing larger plants, they’re a bit pricey but that’s typical if they look as nice as these do! Smaller plants were affordable and just as healthy! If you find yourself in need of some new greenery, make this trip.
