Used DeckTech for years and their service and product was amazing. Lasted twice as long as any of the competitors we had used previously. It is so good that when we built our house in Montana we had the stain shipped to us so we could get the same quality.

We paid deposit for service of our deck on 4/9/20. Were told date would be scheduled for service in 2-3 weeks. Did not hear from company for 7 weeks. My husband had to call 6 times to get someone to call him back. They finally power washed the deck 8 weeks later then left it bare for 10 days through 2 sunny weekends in June. Again we had to call to ask regarding timing of staining. Ron (sales rep) told me more than once that they had many customers and would be out of business if they offered discounts for scheduling issues.

Now that service is done there are divots in half the deck floor I’m assuming from sander and some of railings are already peeling days later. Despite being one of the more expensive and higher rated companies they have not agreed to even small discount to compensate us. Sophia from customer service also never offered even so much as an apology. Just frustrated by the way they have treated us. Very dismissive. A simple call with explanation of delay and offer of small gesture of compensation and I would have been happy.

If anyone has kind and trustworthy recommendations for next time let me know.

Single Worst Home Improvement Experience Ever!
At first Deck Tech stained our deck and it looked perfect – we were very happy and we had all the furniture back in place, flowers planted, etc. Then 6 days later I came home to my deck furniture in the driveway, a crew showed up while we were not home and completely stripped our freshly stained deck again, ruining plants, furniture and staining our Viking grill along the way. No apologies from them. Initially they did not even believe me, Ulyses in production questioned my story until I told him I had it on video. He and Bob Rana, our salesman, stopped answering calls. After multiple phones calls and complaints they came to re-strip deck further due to the fact that stain was so fresh, it was not completely removed. Finally, 2 to 3 weeks later, they re-stained the deck again but it does not look as good as the first time. Now there are dirt tracks along the traffic pattern because the stain did not soak into the wood all the way and a few light spots. Have been trying for 5 months to get some sort of restitution. They offered $150 at first…. then $350, but after dozens of phone calls and emails to Crystal, still no credit to our card. I have the whole thing recorded on security video with photos. Deck Tech is terrible!!!

Deck tech never finished the job. The sides of the deck were never cleaned and sealed even though I asked multiple times to have that done. I thought that would have been included in the initial estimate as sides of the deck as well as the deck floor (to my thinking) would all be part of the deck. It seems the initial assessment of the work that needed to be done was incomplete. When I inquired, they told me to do that part of the job was additional and not worth their workers coming out again even though I assured them that I would pay any additional fee. I called multiple times and was promised a call back each time, which never happened. Then they charged my credit card for the balance owed withOUT my knowledge and sadly without completing the sides of the deck. I am really disappointed in the follow through and customer service.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this business unless you want to play cat-and-mouse with them for months.

Start-to-finish, our last encouter with them stretched from 4/2/24, when we accepted their proposal, to 7/20/24, when we were satisfied enough to be done with them. They get one star only because technically, they did complete the job.

Communication is nonexistent. Attempted repeated contacts via email, text, and phone calls went unanswered for weeks. A few times, I began to suspect they went out out of business during our job.

As far as the work itself, we are now mostly satisfied. Mostly, because we used Deck Tech previously in 2019, and when they prepared our 2024 proposal, I asked them to quote the exact same specifications. I did not have the proposal from 2019 to compare. The refinishing in 2024 was a significantly different color than 2019. It is true, I did not research the name of the color quoted in the 2024 proposal, and could not compare it to the previous contract, so I am partly to blame for the incorrect color. But I did trust that they would follow instructions and make no changes from 2019. That trust was misplaced.

Once the errant color was finished, we were dissatisfied with the uneven application in some spots. We reached out for someone to come and redo those parts. It took two months before the revision was done.

As a bit of icing on the cake, I received an email on 8/26/24 stating: "Our records indicate that we serviced your deck in 2019, and it is time for your deck to be restored again!" A perfect demonstration of the confusion you should expect.

    You've been warned.

The investment is protected from the start by the craftsman's precision. Their attention to detail is unmatched, as seen in the seamless application, such as using a lambswool brush to avoid drip edges. This dedication to perfect results is why customers return.

    - [ ] Summary: stalled project over six months (promised in two weeks), then damaged our property and replaced to stairs that we did not agree to have replaced so the other six stairs look ridiculous. So we are out six months and hundreds of dollars—the project won’t be fixed before we need to move and i am furious. The first guy who came out was charming and knowledgeable but never saw him again: don’t be fooled.

Deck Tech stripped off layers of old stain down to the original surface, applied new stain and it's like a new deck. They protected all the plants and didn't leave a speck of mess. Only wish we used them first time around.

Deck looks great. They meticulously prep everything and did a great job, even on the skirting. What was most impressive is that two weeks later I had to call a pest control company for carpenter bees. They checked the deck and said it was an excellent job Deck Tech did sealing up the deck.

Deck Tech did a phenomenal job on our deck! The job was not easy, as we have a pond and landscaping surrounding both decks on our property. The technicians meticulously wrapped all of the landscaping with plastic and the area near the water. There was no overspray in any of our landscaping or water area. The technicians had great attention to detail and took their time. With that being said, our decks turned out beautifully and we will definitely recommend Deck Tech to any of our friends and family in the future. Thank you Deck Tech!

I’m late writing this review because the holidays took over—but Deck Tech absolutely earned it.

Last summer, we had a new deck built on the front of our house here on the South Side of Chicago. Because of timing, we had to wait until fall to get it stained. When I was ready, I scheduled an appointment through Deck Tech’s website and heard back pretty quickly, which I really appreciated.

The scheduler was friendly and clear, especially about needing to coordinate sealing the deck as well. Communication was easy and straightforward the whole time—no guessing, no back-and-forth.

Within a week, an awesome crew showed up. They were professional from the start, confirmed all the details, and got right to work. You could tell they knew exactly what they were doing. The prep work was thorough, the stain was applied evenly, and they were careful with every part of the space.

When they finished, there was zero mess. No stray stain. No leftover materials. No evidence they’d even been there—except for a great-looking deck.

The color options were plentiful, and I love the color we chose. It completely changed the look of the house in the best way. The deck was stained about three months ago, and it has already held up beautifully through snow and winter weather so far.

I was very satisfied with both the cost and the final result. From scheduling to the crew on site, Deck Tech was easy to work with and did quality work. I would absolutely recommend them and hire them again—I even asked for business cards to pass out to my neighbors.

So we were in customer service just to be told that they couldn't place the order and that employee from that area arrives at 9am okay so we go and wait it close to freaking 10 and no one shows so we see and employee walking by and ask him if he knew if the person was in and he said he didn't know but that he can help us place order... Love going to home-depot, they are on my yearly budget. This place is very clean, the parking lot always seems to have parking in the front. I like going here compared to others in the city as its seems a little more spread-out and less congestion. There is several shops and food places around here so the area is good if you need to get a few things done. Close to Sams.
