Let me start by saying we had gone through a bunch of contractors to begin with. That’s just old house maintenance I suppose. However when we were told we needed an electrician I called 4 I found on Google before getting to Custom. This was the first place to pick up the phone - amazing! I’d prefer online scheduling personally but it is what it is. They not only answered the call but had someone out to evaluate & fix same day, that’s amazing! Brian was fantastic and we genuinely enjoyed chatting with him as he worked. He did a great job and the cost seems very reasonable for the amount of work he did. Absolutely will call again and request Brian!

Vincent did a good job fixing what I asked to be fixed and I have future things in mind to be done. I felt they were a little pricey though.

The electrician didn't seem to have the knowledge how to wire in an light sensor and a switch. He worked quite a while when I asked him how it was going he said that this was his third try and he was pretty sure it was going to work. As it ended up I need to leave the switch on all the time. This was the first time I had any difficulty with Custom Electrical Services. That's the reason I gave four stars was for past service

We hired Custom to do this job after they had installed a major electrical upgrade to our home. While there are electricians in the DSM area that charge a bit less than Custom, the quality and reliability of those companies fall far short. The current job involved installing Cat8 Ethernet lines to an upstairs office. The work was outstanding. There was one issue. Custom's materials supplier was quoting them $600 for a spool (640 feet) of Cat8 cable—an outrageous price by any standard. I was able to obtain the cable needed, 640 feet, for $182. The owners of Custom Electric need to reconsider their materials supplier seriously. This experience makes me question if the previous job's materials were at a similar extreme markup.

The quality of Custom's work is the best I have ever seen. They are also experts at explaining what they are doing and why, so the customer is never in the shadows regarding the work. We will certainly hire them again for future electrical work while monitoring material sources.

In reply to Custom's Owner's reply:
We expect high-quality materials; however, you quoted us over $600 for the Cat8 cable, whereas we were able to obtain a very high-quality cable for $182 before tax, which is 650 feet of cable, with 90% of the reel remaining for future cable needs. I just suspect that your supplier is pricing excessively, which could cause a loss of business for you and a loss of activity for your employed electricians.

Not a great experience. It cost $69 for them to visit, but nearly $400 for them to diagnose the problem. I don’t understand this business model. I will definitely call another company next time.

Custom Electric just called YEARS later after they did work at my property demanding a $120 membership fee due to a 'significant' discount that was given ($1600) on electric work they did. When in fact, the membership fee was paid and (because of the membership fee) they wired my parents brand new build. Everything was under one account even though it was two separate addresses.

They finely decided to 'waive' the $120 membership fee.

Great customer service and way to do business. We went with Custom because a friend worked with the owner years ago, so word of mouth. But this place is nothing but corporate money hungry people that cannot get their records straight. Would not recommend.

Main work is Home subpanel replacement with breakers and 3 battery operated fire/co alarms installation: I pay 59usd and they provide Price estimation/offer: 4200usd. Another company had offered 1920usd for the same job. A government authority should take care of such excessive pricing. I am an engineer and I know the materials' cost, time spent and fair price. What about other people.?

Will never recommend this company, I am a contractor myself and have to have a permit pulled for electric work. I had 3 companies out to quote it because i'm just like everyone else in todays economy, broke. 2 local companies came in at under half the quote custom electric gave. The dispatcher for this company assured me I would get notice before the tech would come out to quote a new meter box. The only notice I got was the tech calling me all wrapped up with his quotes. Which was 80% outside the scope of work that I had requested. They wanted to upsell me almost 8,000$ worth of work, move my meter set onto my home. install a new mast and run new wire. I corrected the work I wanted done which was just a new meter set, and it was still more than double anyone else. Since declining the quote I have been called 7 times and texted 5 for approval on moving forward with the quote. I wanted to talk to someone higher than the tech since he doesn't set the price book so i asked for the service manager to give me a call to explain the pricing disconnect. It's been a month now and still no contact from the manager, but the office sales group sure wants my money. Long story guys but buyer beware these are the contractors that are the epitome of used care salesmen. I've given up on talking to someone higher in the chain, they've obviously chosen the principles they stand on. Upsell Upsell Upsell
