General Contractor reviews in Boston, Massachusetts

Abacus Builders dia a fantastic job. They did flooring in my home and also built a 14x14 deck on the back of my house and replace a patio door to a regular door and my kitchen in cool enough to cook in during the summer where as before we had to wait til after sun went done. I would definitely recommend them for any of your remodeling or home building needs definitely check them out.

As new owners of an old condo on Beacon Hill, we hired Abacus to fix the mess of a prior unpermitted defective partial rebuild of a large elevated rear porch. The porch is nearly two stories off the ground. The rear of the building is accessible only by a tunnel. The workplace is small and constricted. Working with our engineer’s plans and their steel subcontractor, Abacus did an amazing job promptly and properly completing this complicated project. We greatly appreciate the communication, workmanship, and attention to detail from Mark, Lua, Gerald, Ryan and crew.

Fantastic experience with Abacus Builders. They are professional and responsive. They have a lot of stoop, facade, and siding experience. They completely transformed the front of our house. Gerald is also very kind which makes it easy to work with him. We went through a few quotes and Gerald's proved to be the most honest.

We contracted with Abacus to help us build a new roof deck on our building in South Boston. During the permitting and negotiation process Abacus was incredibly professional and patient while we worked out the details of what we wanted and ensured everything was done by the books. They truly know how to navigate through various city regulations and zoning restrictions. The construction itself was executed to a high degree of craftsmanship and we are thrilled with the results. The workers always showed up on time and were respectful and courteous. Also, their pricing was very competitive relative to the three other quotes that we received. We would definitely hire Abacus again for future work and highly recommend them to anyone seeking to do any construction / rehab / remodeling.

I am extremely satisfied with the work carried out by Gerald and his team on my house. They were not only professional and polite but also worked closely with me to develop a comprehensive work plan and estimate. Their prices were fair and they were accommodating enough to meet my budget requirements. I would definitely consider hiring them for any future home addition projects.

I recently had to renovate my utility room, laundry area, and ceiling because of water leakage. The project manager, Gerald, was truly amazing. He came to assess the situation and assured me that there was nothing to worry about as he would take care of everything... and he certainly did! The end result is that my utility room, laundry area, and ceiling look even better than they did before the water damage occurred. I highly recommend Abacus Builders for all your remodeling projects. I will definitely be using their services again.

The team was at my condo daily building the roof deck was awesome. Can't say enough positive things about the crew. However, Abacus gave the ironworkers the wrong plans and they built a spiral staircase for my roof deck and installed it on the wrong side of my house. Abacus refused to take responsibility and when I wanted it moved to the correct side from the original plan I received the "dog at my homework" routine and gave me a rundown of excuses. Mark never bothered to come down to actually see the project once but somehow tried to place blame on me as if I'm in construction. He was rude and unprofessional. Never completed the project. I got the permit from the city that it was approved, even though it doesn't have a gate which the city requires. Don't work with this company.

Abacus has done excellent work on our commercial space on several occasions the years. Highly recommend!

It was a pleasure working with the Abacus team for my roof deck addition. The quality of work was excellent, no corners were cut, and I feel like I got great value for the cost of the project. It’s clear Abacus has a lot of experience doing projects in the city which was very helpful. I’d highly recommend and would use them again in the future.

Abacus is a great company to hire. They are clean, professional, fast, friendly, knowledgeable and cost effective. My property management company has hired Abacus for almost 2 decades for jobs of all size.

We reached out to Abacus to replace the decking on our roof deck in the South End. They were such a breath of fresh air vs. our prior experience with contractors. Abacus was uber-responsive, fast, and did excellent work. They found some structural issues while they were doing the work and were very clear and professional on what they suggested adding to the scope, and made it really easy to work with them.

I would highly recommend Abacus to anyone who asked. I'm so happy with the deck and they got it done in weeks when I was expecting to wait months.

Abacus is fantastic to work with. Mark and his team are professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Communication and timeliness were on point throughout the process of constructing one of the best roof decks in the city.

Abacus provided exceptional service with a high quality of professional. Their work quality was outstanding and they came through for us in a pinch, delivering a top-notch job on our decks.

Our roofing job was handled with utmost professionalism from start to finish. Mark gave us several options within our budget to choose from. The roofers worked quickly and efficiently with special attention to detail. Clean up was great-I haven't even noticed any staples in the driveway! I highly recommend Abacus Builders.

Great group of people to work with: Gerald, Lua, Mark, Ryan, Alan, the electricians, the plumbers and all the other hard workers (and there were many!) who spent 9+ month during a full renovation of my row house in the South End. The workmanship was excellent, the team was always very responsive, great at trouble-shooting and looking for cost-effective options. 5-6 days a week for months the house was full of people working away from first thing in the morning to late in the afternoon - the communication from the team was excellent throughout the project and the project pressed forward as agreed from the very beginning. I would use them again in a heartbeat!

Fantastic service and very professional. Redid our flat top roof and a rear shingled area, followed by rebuilding our roof deck in place.
The team worked nonstop, were fast, and efficient. The deck itself looks phenomenal and built to last.
From estimation to contracting and delivery, I would highly recommend.

I called Abacus in August of 2024 about reinforcing 2 of my porch decks that were not sufficiently supported before. They provided a very fair quote, cost breakdown and detailed work plan. All the communication between us was perfect all along the process and when I asked for additional work to be included they were happy to oblige. The crew that came out to the do the work was polite and very tidy with the work site. I would definitely recommend Abacus and I intend to use them again in them again in the future for other work I would like to have done.

Mark and his team are second to none, listened to my visions and assisted me in achieving my dream project. The materials and guidance from Abacus kept me on budget and the project came out better than I dreamed of. Mark’s communication and professionalism is top notch, I recommend him without hesitation.

We reached out to Abacus to build a roof deck on our home and the team did an excellent job. They were reliable, efficient and the crew did a great job on the project. Overall, we couldn't be happier with the result and would highly recommend Abacus (specifically Lua and Gerald!) to anyone in need.

Exceptional experience with Abacus! They came in after another contractor abandoned our full gut renovation in the South End. I couldn’t be more impressed with the level of professionalism and expertise they demonstrated throughout the entire process. From the initial consultation, to the completion of the project, Mark and his team were not only knowledgeable in their field, but also incredibly approachable and patient. Their dedication to delivering high-quality results while maintaining reasonable rates was truly commendable. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of construction services and I look forward to the opportunity to work with them again in the future.

There is no better general contracting business in Boston. Mark, Lua, and Ger were incredible to work with throughout the process. They actually listened to me. There was never an argument. They were committed to producing a high value product. I was so impressed by the efficiency of their construction process. It was not unusual to have multiple subcontractors on site at once. The most impressive part was the clear communication I received from Mark and the team. They always answered my phone calls, texts, and emails within minutes. They were honest about their limitations and incredibly helpful in suggesting ways to produce a superior product. I could not have asked for a better experience.
