Our first house project with Fresh Start (it definitely will not be the last)
was our first, long-awaited addition to our home including a laundry room and bathroom on our main floor.
Our experience with Fresh Start could not have been better. The Fresh Start employees were just awesome, absolute professionals who do top quality work (thanks John and Garrett!). The best subcontractors too; the HVAC/plumbers, electricians, tile masons, and plasterers/painters were outstanding. The harmony and respect among the entire Fresh Start team really stood out the whole time. Fresh Start's Project manager's leadership (thanks Walter!) made sure it all happened.
We finally got our "dream addition " to our home and definitely made the right decision selecting Fresh Start for our addition.

Fresh Start did an admirable job renovating my kitchen and back stairwell this past winter. The project management team was very responsive to my needs and concerns whenever questions arose. Despite pandemic restrictions, the various sub contractors were scheduled effectively and were all courteous and accommodating. This is the second project I have undertaken with Fresh Start and I highly recommend them.

We enjoyed working with the entire team at Fresh Start on our new construction project in Belmont. Immediately after meeting Ben, one of the owners of Fresh Start, we knew we had found a contractor who would be responsive, responsible, and easy to work with. The construction process can be difficult at times and the team at Fresh Start did everything they could to minimize these instances. We greatly appreciated the open and honest lines of communication between Ben and his team. We love our new home and look forward to working with Fresh Start on any future construction needs.

It's been 3 years since Fresh Start remodeled our kitchen, dining room, bathrooms, and rear porch and, to this day, I smile each time I step into one of these rooms. Our architect solicited several bids from contractors and Ben's presentation, while certainly not the lowest bid, was the most informative, realistic and sincere. Ben and his team worked smoothly with the architect, devised an alternative plan when a serious hidden structural issue threatened to derail the project, proposed money-saving (but no less high quality) alternatives to keep the project close to its initial budget assumptions, promptly resolved some lingering issues at the close of the project, and kept us informed at every step. Although the project took 8 months to complete, it was remarkably close to Ben's initial estimate and the little down time that occurred was caused by our indecision, and not by Fresh Start. The project manager and crew were great to work with and always checked to make sure we were happy with tasks before considering them complete. We have no hesitation recommending Fresh Start to others and will certainly hire them for future renovations.

Fresh Start was the general contractor for a major, $250k basement overhaul. The basement is on 2 levels and the lower portion is above ground on 3 sides, so a bit unusual. It included replacing 2 lally columns with an overhead beam, thus opening up the space. Also included a squash wall, for practicing squash (or soccer) and 2 8-foot bay windows, with benches. Also a 3/4 bathroom on upper level. The final results are spectacular. The lower basement has a ceiling height of 13 feet, which really gives it a spacious feeling. Fresh Start worked steadily, completed the project in about 4 months (3 months initially projected), came back very quickly after project completion to correct any little issues. The bid was reasonably accurate (we went over by about 15%). So far everything is holding up well. Only aspect of the project that is a bit unsatisfactory is a pocket door for the bathroom, which is functional, but hard to lock, seems like it may not be durable, and that required 2 additional visits from Fresh Start. But on balance, we are very happy with Fresh Start, and have recently used them again, for 2 smaller projects. As before, they were knowledgeable, gave good advice, and did a good job w/our outdoor work.

We had a great experience with Fresh Start. Nick offered a very comprehensive quote and did a great job guiding us through the scope of work and offering suggestions on ways to mitigate costs. He also made great suggestions for materials of construction to ensure longevity of our exterior work. The team was very patient and responsive to adjustments we requested on the fly. At the end the project came in well under budget while accomplishing the tasks to our satisfaction. We would happily work with them again!

Bottom line: I will hire Fresh Start again next time I have a construction project.

I’ve done a number of significant home renovation projects over the years, and Fresh Start was – by far – the most professional contractor that I’ve worked with. From beginning to end, the entire team at Fresh Start was collaborative, communicative, and proactive in delivering my project. The scope of the renovation was extensive and complex (gut renovation of a condo in a +100 year old building). In partnership with my architect, the FS team navigated around numerous challenges.

I’m now a year out from the project completion and the workmanship has stood the test of time (the two very minor issues I had were rapidly resolved at no expense under the terms of their warranty). Fresh Start was not the lowest bid that I received for the project, but in the end I’m confident that working with a professional team saved me headaches and resulted in the level of quality that I expected for my home.

Worked with Fresh Start for gut renovation of a kitchen as well as a creation of a master bathroom and master dressing room. They were a pleasure to work with - good communication, kind and friendly team, attention to detail and excellent quality. We are choosing them again for our next project in our new home!

We hired Fresh Start for a full bathroom addition to our 100-year old house in Cambridge. We had the extra complication of the addition being attached to a part of our house that shared a wall with our neighbor's garage. Our project manager spent as much time as necessary to communicate with our neighbor and manage his concerns. I appreciated Fresh Start's transparent, regular billing and ease in working with Cambridge bureaucracy and quirks. Everyone we dealt with from Fresh Start was polite and professional without being patronizing. Joe Powers, our project manager, was extremely patient and responsive. We ended up expanding the scope of our project --taking advantage of having contractors in the house -- and Joe guided us through many decisions-- providing estimates, suggesting order of operations, and how to prioritize --without ever pressuring us. Mike Wurtzburger and Jesse Knapp-Stumpp rounded out our wonderful team. We're so appreciative of their work ethic and attention to detail. Our whole team was a pleasure to work with, and I'm already planning another project!

Fresh Start has been an absolute pleasure to work with. After having issues with availability and reliability of another contractor, I reached out to Fresh Start to get a new quote for work needed to my building. The communications back and forth have been very quick and detailed and the work was completed quickly and with a high level of quality/workmanship. Scheduling times for assessments and to have the actual work completed has been incredibly easy and Fresh Start has been very flexible in finding times that work best for me and even squeezing some work in when time becomes available. I have already had them back out for a second project and will continue to turn to them for any repairs I need done to my condo or the building in the future. The price was fair, the work was well done, and they even presented me with different options that might suit my repair needs to ensure I was getting the solution at the cost that I was most comfortable with. It has been a real pleasure working with this team, especially having experienced a much lesser quality of service and results from others in the past. I would highly recommend Fresh Start to anyone looking for a reliable and friendly contractor.

One of your employees wasn't letting me merge in, then pulled into the other lane, sweared at us, sped up and as I got close to him he cut us off aggressively with my 2 year old in the car. Not smart to do in a company vehicle and extremely dangerous behavior.

No issue with the company itself and the owner seemed sympathetic and apologized for his employees behavior.

I have worked with Ben and his team for many years. They are always up to the details, and logistics. They are professionals - On time, and on point. They will answer anything from email to txt. Overall just an easy experience. We have done business with Fresh Start when they were just painters, but now the company has becoming bigger and better! Work with them and you will experience it.

This was our first experience with a major renovation (Kitchen) and Fresh Start has been a key partner in helping us accomplish all our project goals. Ben had the initial consultation and made recommendations regarding an architect, and other really useful suggestions to develop a kitchen plan aligned with our vision. Fresh starts budget estimate was very competitive (compared with 3 other local companies). The project team assigned to the renovation was an absolute delight to work with, especially the project manager, Tom Moskaluk. Tom was very attentive, reliable and a genuine sounding board to bounce off our ideas and make selections from a multitude of options for our kitchen. He was punctual and managed all fresh start contractors as well as third party contractors with utmost professionalism while staying on track with time and budget. He is a good listener, detail oriented, and executes all tasks in a timely fashion. Fresh start made several adjustments and went out of their way to ensure that our 5-6 month time spent in the living room was as comfortable as possible. We love our new kitchen and would highly recommend, Ben and Tom to any new prospective home owners interested in a significant renovation project.

Fresh Start turned a nightmare into a dream! after major water damage from a frozen sprinkler pipe and roof leakage. 3 contractors flaked out on the project leaving us in the middle of a construction zone. A friend suggested Fresh Start and I couldn't have been happier. The whole team was so great from assessing and planning, to the day to day construction and finishing up the details. Every person in and out of our home was polite, skilled and knowledgeable a pleasure to have around. they explained things clearly and were particularly great to work with as a woman they weren't condescending or over simplifying this. Billing and transparency was great. easy systems to work with and easy to communicate and get in touch. but the best part was the quality of work. Beautiful hard wood floor repair with such high quality and attention to detail you can't tell where the old floor started and the new one began. We rebuilt a roof deck as part of the repair in beautiful easy to maintain composite and now have a summer oasis. Seeing the beauty and knowing the structure work beneath it is sound and high quality puts our minds at ease. I'd recommend Fresh Start to anyone seeking a contractor and would be thrilled to work with them again. So happy every time I come home to my beautifully restored house!
