I picked Sod Smith over a couple of other bids despite them not being the lowest bid (they were the middle bid) because Kaleb had a detailed plan of what he would do with the backyard. He recommend specific grading for some tricky parts of the yard as well as gave me some installation date options that would fit with some other work i was having planned in the yard. On the day of the install they showed up on time and split the work over a couple of days. The crew was very good natured and respectful and I appreciated Micah's communication. An exposed cable line was accidentally cut and I appreciated Micah's honesty and willingness to rectify the situation. All in all a good experience and I would highly recommend this company.

Kaleb and his team are incredibly professional. The crew showed up on time and completed my front and backyard in the same day. They adjusted the sprinklers and made sure I was 100% satisfied with their work. I highly recommend Sod Smith to those that want a new lawn.

Everything went smoothly and fast. They responded to my request right away and within a week we got the new sods. Our front yard was destroyed by those grubs and then the weeds took over. The Sod Smith team tilled the ground, got rid of all the weeds, added the grub controller and fertilizer, then installed the new sods.

The crew members cleaned up the dirt and debris nicely and our yard is looking great now.

Micah and Adam removed old weedy lawn, prepared the bed, and laid new sod. They also prepped one area for garden plantings.

If you’re looking for a company to give you HONEST advice on what you need or don’t need - call and get a quote! Kaleb helped me figure out that sod won’t actually be likely to work for my yard but helped talk through all the possibilities. They’re not going to push you to get something you don’t need just so they can get a sale - they want you to have a great looking yard for YEARS … not just the current season! 10/10 recommend! After my initial contact, everything was done within 6 days. They replaced half of our front yard lawn and cleaned up the sidewalks nicely. We thought the price was reasonable.

Wanted to love it- but neither the product or service was on point. A section of our yard was forgotten for sod installation but they finished it when I requested. The team left mid-afternoon and said they were going to a different job site. They forgot to grade it- but came back and did some grading a few days later. At that time they spotted some questionable sections of sod and replaced them. I wish I would have been told about the sprinkler system/maintenance plan at time of installation (or before). It has been almost 30 days and we are now full of dandelions and weeds. Most people I spoke to at Sod Smith were friendly and professional- they emphasized 100% satisfaction. They did offer to potentially replace some browning sections and install the sprinkling system at a discounted rate- but my lack of confidence in the company left me with too many doubts to invest any more money or time in the process. I truly believe they want to do a good job, but may be in a little over their head this summer. My 3 stars is for the effort and good intentions of the company- otherwise I’d rank it lower.

Still no reply from the company. They did send me a marketing communication which I (again) replied to asking for attention to my matter. Still no reply.

The company claims we never reached out - we emailed their contact info (from their website) on Sep 18, Oct 2, and Oct 22. Never received a reply. See picture.

The company also refuses to acknowledge our concerns. You can see it in their reply.

The company is not being truthful. Among many untruths, we DID NOT reschedule twice - we rescheduled once, and they rescheduled the second time. Rescheduling is VERY normal in this industry when you're working with landscapers...Sod Smith told us this at the time and our landscaper also told us this. Only now is Sod Smith blaming us.

I don't like to post negative reviews (look at my profile) and I try my best to work with the company first. Unfortunately, Sod Smith has yet to reply to any of my concerns regarding their install at our house. This is disappointing given the recency of our project and given we spent nearly $8k.

Bottomline, don't be fooled by the pictures - it looks great initially, but issues persist long-term and requires HIGH maintenance due to shortcuts made during ground preparation. This is NOT a professional job.

SCOPE OF WORK: we had them do a full install (ground prep + sod) for the front yard and sod only for the backyard (as our landscaper did the ground prep there as part of another project).

ISSUE: unfortunately, they did ground prep right after a major rainfall when the ground was still wet AND they tried cramming it into a tight time window. I raised these concerns before, during, and after install. They told me that they followed their normal process and that everything will hold well - and I trusted them as the experts and as the initial look was great.

RESULT: our front yard looks horrible <1 year post-install. The grade in our front yard settled significantly given the shortcuts taken in the prep work. This has resulted in a very inconsistent and patchy lawn with each area requiring different levels of maintenance. It's simply not a professional job.

The backyard? Our landscaper listened to our concerns and did additional prep work. The result is that the backyard is in great condition.

We had a lawncare professional come out to take a look as part of fixing the issues. He assumed the front yard was a DIY job and that the backyard was recently redone. That tells you how bad it looks now.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: I have contacted Sod Smith numerous times over the past few months. I have yet to hear back. I'm very disappointed that they are not standing behind their work.

SUMMARY: if you're looking for sod (no ground prep), they likely can do a great job for you as they provide quality sod. If you're looking for a full install (sod + prep), then proceed with caution and trust your gut if you feel they are shortcutting the job.
