Home Services reviews in Kansas City, Missouri

First off, Grass Pad is my “go to” place for lawn treatments and grass seed. I don’t see that changing. But, the Barry Rod store complicates that a bit. Several times,I have run into condescending sales associates. There is a fine line between excellent customer service and condescension. This morning - on one of the prime Fall overseesing days - this location was out of one of their top-rated seeds - and the one I use for my lawn - when I arrived 5 minutes after opening. There was only a vague “maybe after Noon” promise to restock. Not great planning for a day easily predicted to be a prime day for grass seed sales.

I am a huge fan of the Grass Pad and this location is no different. For years I used Scott's on my lawn and honestly I got mediocre results. Then about 5 years ago I switched over to Grass Pad and the Loveland products they sell and I never looked back.
Ever year I have one of the best looking lawns on the block. I've used them to completely kill a lawn and reseed and let me tell you, the lawn looked incredible. Neighbors were walking by complimenting us on how great everything looked compared to before.
Last year I built a new home and a newly sodded lawn was brought in. I immediately set to work on it with Grass Pad's Idiot Proof Lawn Program by Loveland. Currently this spring my lawn is so thick and so green I have yet to have a weed be able to grow and it's the best looking on our block.
So if you want your lawn to look like a million bucks, don't skimp. You need to get on down to the Grass Pad, just like the jingle says. -
My fiance and I were in at the Grass pad on Barry road this past Sunday. The lady ringing us up at the counter was an absolute WRETCH. Rude, disrespectful, and very confrontational. Immediately SCOLDED us with an angry voice and scowl that we should of gotten a ticket from the people in the yard, however, we never received any help while picking out or plants. It only went downhill from there. I would at all costs avoid the Grass Pad at this location. I will be using Social Media to post similar comments. Shame on you for having such employees interact with customers.

Grass Pad is a fantastic nursery. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I came in looking for the plants that naturally grow in the Midwest. Barbara showed me many options for the area that I am trying to landscape. Prices don't seem expensive so that is always a bonus.

The Grass Pad is the one stop shop for all things lawn, plants, and trees. Their employees give great advice and are very knowledgeable.

I love going to Grass Pad at Barry Rd. Every time I walk in or even before, I am greeted with smiles and welcomed in. Drew and his team are experts and share their knowledge. The truly care about your personal lawn and garden experience. The idiot proof program truly works and I love how’s it’s designed for our Kansas City area. I’ll never go anywhere else.

Great place for landscape plants, trees and sod. Scott has always done a great job recommending the right plants and trees for our area and has special ordered larger quantities of trees for our property. Yes you probably pay more than the box stores, but the service and quality of plants and trees more than make up for it.

I will never buy lawn care products from big box stores again. Since going to Grass Pad my lawn looks great. Recommend to everyone.

Over the years we have worked along side the staff of the Grass Pad to meet the needs of our lawn care and landscape customers. We're complimented by the referrals they've sent our way and by their commitment to helping homeowners improve their properties at every step of the way. Thank you guys and keep it up.

Employees need to understand why policies are in place. To protect you from losing product; not to prevent a sale. I need an entire pallet of sod but only have a 1/2 ton truck so I can only transport half a pallet. I can only come back today to get the other half. I wasted 2 hours to come get sod that you will not sell me because I am limited in transporting it. If I could have bought what I needed it would have been on me to return and get it. I cannot buy half of what I need and hope there is more when I return the drive is too far. So I cannot do my project at all because your employees do not know when they can step outside policy to help a customer.

They don't accept American Express. I didn't see an obvious sign that stated they didn't take it before I wasted my time selecting items to purchase (maybe I missed it). I find it ridiculous that they don't accept it. I guess some businesses would prefer to lose 100% percent of the sell and lose a customer. I read the excuse businesses have for not excepting American Express is that the transaction fee is higher. I guess loosing a customers business is worth making an extra ½% or 1% per transaction? Amex is my preferred method of transaction not accepting it is your choice but I shop elsewhere.

Did you guys know a place call The comedy cub in KC stole your jingle??????? How is that legal. Just a heads up. ♥ u guys. Long standing respectable company and employees.

I own a small trailer that's impossible to back up, it fish tails. Their workers carried mulch to my trailer, I didn't leave the parking lot, to make it easier for me. They'll have someone standing in line writing up tickets so their cashiers can spend less time checking people out, speeding up the line. That's the kind of service that has me coming back despite it being far from the closest choice for me.

It's a great nursery and a place to get lawn stuff and advice. Great prices and service.
I feel even more strongly about it after years have passed, these guys always give you the best advice. -
Staff is very curt and rude and will try and sell you more items then you need. All I wanted was some grass seed and fertilizer and knew the amounts I wanted. They argued with me over how many pounds of grass and fertilizer I needed for the area I was covering. No tips on how to make it work, how often to water it, and if you should put the fertilizer down first or the seed. I was not thanked for my purchase at check out with the kid they had running it. They USED to be nice and friendly but with their success they have gone the complete opposite. Arrogant and rude is the MOI now. I will probably never be back. You can get the same stuff at your local store so do not bother to make the drive if you live far away. Be safe.

Worst customer service experience. The older gray haired man behind the counter for the grass seed was completely unhelpful and condescending in his answers, seemed completely bothered when asked questions. My husband was talking to another sales associates who gave completely different advice on how to prepare the yard for fall. I have never received bad service here before, and we drove 45 minutes, after all said and done, I decided to go elsewhere and not make any purchase since being treated so rudely.

Marshall is the most helpful and pleasant young man I have ever had the pleasure to have help me!!!

We have purchased our Christmas tree here for 3 years in a row now and I can't say enough good things about this place. The tree selection is great! The staff goes above and beyond every year. They really make us feel special. It's hard to find customer service like this anymore. Customers for life.

As a small contractor I have always been treated well at Grass Pad.

Have been to the Barry road store multiple times over the past few weeks for plantings at our new home. Love the staff there both for service and advice; they've always been attentive and give great information on trees and other plants. One of the guys there was a bit confused as to when Halloween was, but he was older so maybe it was just an off day. Plus, their product is far superior to the big box guys for sure.
