Very inconsiderate. Neighbors on the block used them. Had so much debris and dust on our cars. Company blamed residents for not moving cars when they hear a chainsaw. Workers claimed they notified residents to move cars. They did not. Peter Slump of company claims it's not his problem what his workers tell people. Man takes no responsibility for anything, including the actions of his own workers. No apology or any remorse shown to the residents of May Street. Shame on you Peter Slump and your lying workers who disrespect the beautiful town of Hawthorne!

Wanted to try them so I gave them a simple job of deep root fertilizer on my trees. Got the quote and I said ok. A month pasted I heard nothing from them. So I thought to myself I'm not gonna pursue business with a company that just doesn't show up. A month later I get a 60 day late payment notice from them. They never left flags or notice on my door when the service was done. Clerk told me "I have to take the word of my service techs." Really I'm just suppose to trust you on the honor system. No thanks, I'll give them the money, small fee to end years of head aches.

Woman on the phone said they would come over on a Thursday, 4 weeks ago for an estimate and I didn't need to be there. They never even showed up or called me to explain why. NO estimate NO phone call! Must be good to be in the tree trimming business as they obviously could care less about new customers.

They are the worst. First of all I took days off from work for the person to never show up to give me an estimate. And second once I call the company to get the job done. They never called to notify me when they were coming so they just show up at my home without anyone being there. My husband was leaving for work and he had to send them away. The person contacted me and gave me an attitude telling me " we are costing them money" he did not let me explain nor he wanted to listen that no one was home. I suggest everyone to not use them.

I have over 8 huge trees in my backyard that need to be cut and you’ll be the last company I’d call for it, you are a very irresponsible company that are polluting are neighboorhood for days with noise and debris. If you want to make all your neighboorhood mad at you hire this company, but that is surely not beneficial.

Very unprofessional group. Doing some work for the township. They didn’t have any of the road blocked off besides their two vehicles parked blocking the street. Where all of the crew was standing between the two vehicles. I live two house in from where they were going to be working this was about 7:40 am. I was told that the gentleman couldn’t move because he’s doing work for the township and wouldn’t even allow me to come onto my own block. He told me that I could go all the way around because there’s going to be a crane to remove trees later on today. I said to him but I’m just trying to get to my house that is a few doors down. Told me again that I can go all the way around the block because they are working and he wasn’t moving his vehicle. There was no one working at this time. Everyone was standing drinking coffee and laughing.

DO NOT USE Downes for ANY chemical applications… their products are under mixed and over concentrated… they nearly killed all 6 of my gorgeous established cherry trees, extensive damage to boxwoods, and burned my grass from their hose lines …. I am extremely disappointed and have to hope that with a tremendous amount of care, I can recover all plant materials … do not pay for their chemical services … you will regret it

An absolute nightmare from start to finish. Months of waiting, wasted time, and in the end—arrogance and zero professionalism. Peter came out months ago to look at our tree issues, we patiently waited through the winter for their availability, only to have Tom (who acted like some senior authority) show up and then abruptly refuse to take the job.

No explanation, no courtesy, just a dismissive ‘not interested.’ Who treats customers like that?

If you want a company that cares more about flexing their ego than actually helping clients, Downes is your place. The arrogance and bad attitude were off the charts—condescending, dismissive, and completely unprofessional.

Thankfully, their refusal forced us to find another company—who was not only far more professional and polite, but also cheaper and did an incredible job.

My advice: steer clear of Downes. Don’t waste your time waiting months only to be insulted. There are better companies out there who will treat you with respect and actually want your business!
