Our Experience with NJ General Contractors – Unprofessional, Disrespectful, and Untrustworthy
First, they got us to give a deep discount for two pools, yet they never started the second pool, even though the permit for it came out first. It’s obvious now this was a tactic to secure a discount and promises for more work without intending to deliver.
From there, our experience only got worse:
• Job site unprepared: The site was not graded or prepared as agreed when our crew arrived.
• Cutting corners at the expense of quality: They repeatedly cut corners, leaving end clients with products where the pool coping did not match the pool itself.
• Misrepresentation to clients: They sold end users materials or products that did not match for multimillion dollar project.
• Change orders ignored: We requested changes, got approval, completed the work, and they refused to pay for the changes. This contractor’s focus on taking advantage of subcontractors is clear.
• Payment and respect issues: Agreed-upon payment schedules were ignored or delayed, and when we called them out on unethical practices, they became upset that we did not allow them to cheat us.
• Project changes after town approval: Even after municipal approvals, they demanded changes to the scope and tried to avoid paying for work already completed.
• Delays and hidden fees: Timelines extended by months, and fees for work already included in the contract appeared unexpectedly.
Advice for NJ homeowners and subcontractors:
• Get everything in writing
• Confirm payment schedules and enforce them
• Document all communications
• Watch for tactics to secure discounts or avoid paying for completed work
