We were referred to Anthony through friends in town and couldn't have been happier with our experience. In addition to having a great eye for aesthetics, Anthony is extremely knowledgable about different plant and shrub species. He factors in sun light, moisture, and environment in his recommendations, so the plants will do well once they are in the ground. One of the things we were concerned with was investing in the landscape to have plants die on us. Anthony oversees the installation to make sure the work is done right, which meant we did not have to be home to supervise. We will be working with Anthony again when we do the front of our house.

Split Rock did a great job building us a new walkway, repairing our existing stairs, and designing & building our patch with a beautiful tree & shrubs. They worked with us extensively to ensure that the projects were designed to our liking, even though we only had a rough idea of what we wanted. Their crew completed the project ahead of the anticipated project date and cleaned up well at completion. They even came by several times after the project completed to ensure that we understood how to water and care for the new tree & shrubs as well as plant grass on any areas that succumbed to collateral damage.

Anthony helped us redo a walkway in our backyard. He really listened to what our needs were, had great ideas (way better than what we originally envisioned, and cheaper) and proactively suggested ways to manage costs. He was a great communicator as we finalized the elements of the design we weren’t sure about, and, when we wanted an iron railing, handled all the communication with the subcontractor for us. The work was done quickly, and when I had a picky change at the end, Anthony was again super helpful and got it taken care of. Will definitely look to these guys for future projects.

We just finished up a project with George and are so happy with the outcome! They tore up a concrete slab to create a larger patio, graded our backyard and came up with a beautiful design for landscaping in the front. Communication was great, pricing fair, and if anything popped up along the way George was able to walk us through to make sure we got the best outcome. Would definitely use them again & recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic landscaping company.

After getting bids from 6 different contractors, we decided to go with Anthony's team based on his helpful advice up front and overall transparency. He actually convinced us to increase our budget in order to provide for a much better looking and durable finished product. We are thrilled with the finished hardscaping and pergola installation. There have been some issues with the plantings and grass regrowth, but much of that can be attributed to the hot/dry weather. Overall we were very happy with our experience with Anthony and his team!

We hired the Split Rock team to design a new backyard, demolish a tiny concrete patio, build a much larger bluestone patio with bluestone benches and steps, as well as construct and install a custom spiral staircase to connect the new patio to our elevated deck. They seamlessly blended the gorgeous new work with the parts of out backyard we were preserving. The handmade stacked bluestone benches are particularly exquisite, and we get so much joy from the soft bench lights that automatically turn on at dusk and off after a few hours.

We also worked with Anthony and his team to direct the flow of water on our sloped property. This included work to our driveway and creating a beautiful stone seepage channel for runoff water.

The Split Rock team worked quickly, were incredibly responsive, and adjusted to changes in the plan as my vision evolved. Anthony was available and responsive to all my questions and ideas. We added bistro lights and an under deck pea gravel patio to the scope last minute, all of which was completely quickly and complimented our new patio space beautifully.

We waited four years after buying our Maplewood home to begin a backyard and driveway overhaul, and we are so happy we went with Split Rock. Friends who choose the budget option have all complained in one way or another about poor craftsmanship, and we have nothing but thanks; we can't wait to work with them again.

We hired Anthony and his great team at Split Rock for what we initially thought would be the finishing touches on our patio and landscaping following a renovation on our home in Maplewood. Anthony was the first of three landscape designers who pointed out we had an issue with water draining and he highlighted how that would impact our initial vision. He took a patient, consultative approach walking us through solutions and options at different price points based on our end goal. They also put thought into plantings based on our existing layout and landscaping and we were so pleased with their input. As a final step, they redid a focal point flower bed and reseeded our lawn - knowing we use the space often with family and entertaining, we felt really heard working with Anthony and his team - we cannot recommend them enough!

We just finished up a project with George and Anthony and we could not be happier! We are new homeowners and an outdoor renovation was not on our short list of prioritized work to be done. George and Anthony have given their expertise and really helped us have confidence that this project was necessary and will maximize our happiness here. Our project was to improve drainage in our backyard which quickly progressed to new fence, garage floor, driveway, front walk and sidewalk. We are to the moon thrilled with how everything turned out and would recommend splitrock design to anyone and everyone! This project will render our outdoor space fully complete so we are sad we won’t get to hang out with them much anymore. Five stars! They were excellent.

We interviewed multiple vendors and Anthony stood out immediately, with his “can do” attitude and ability to visualize the finished product while offering helpful suggestions during the planning process.

Anthony and team primarily constructed multiple stone walls (amazingly built almost entirely out of stones that were previously strewn across our property) and a patio, which involved leveling large portions of earth to create lots of additional usable space. To top it off, the team designed and installed gorgeous landscaping and lighting features. Anthony was very easy to work with, and he communicated consistently and effectively throughout the whole process.

Split Rock is the best. They recently did a refresh of our front yard and an overhaul of our backyard. We were pleasantly surprised by how smooth the entire process was, start to finish. Anthony and his awesome team were extremely punctual, very communicative, and stayed right on budget. (Anthony actually found ways to cut costs along the way - unsolicited! - and ended up saving us $$. Unheard of!) Easily and without a doubt the best experience we've ever had working with a contractor.

We had a wonderful experience with Anthony and team. They took the time to get to know what we needed, and to brainstorm various solutions, including working with the town on permitting. The work was done within the schedule created, and there were updates and feedback all along the way. We ended up doing a bit more than originally planned, but all the work was top notch, well designed, and we love the new patio, walkway, steps, and landscaping. They went above and beyond on more than one occasion. Highly recommend this entire team!

Split Rock Design is phenomenal! I could not say enough positive things about our experience. From start to finish our project manager George was attentive, responsive, paid close attention to all details of the design and very knowledgable. We did a very large job: added a retaining wall, leveled out the landscape of our entire back yard, added a fence, stone path walkway with blue stone pavers on both the side of the house and the front of the house, a back patio, added privacy hedges and a plant bed along the edge of the front walk way. Every step of the way George gave great suggestions to achieve the desired look we wanted. The quality of work is impeccable and I have never worked with a better landscaping/ hardscaping company that pays such attention to detail to ensure that the overall aesthetic is top notch. We have done other landscaping projects in Maplewood at previous homes and have not had a better experience than what we had with Split Rock Design. I highly recommend for anyone doing a landscaping or hardscaping project to use this company, you will not be disappointed!
