Tree reviews in North Haledon, New Jersey

Dropping tree branches on cars doesn't seem like a professional company's job in Brooklyn. "Not our fault" when they've broken windows and mirrors doesn't seem to be a professional answer either.
And not being able to post this without a star seems ridiculous.

Suddenly a large section of a fifteen-foot 40 year old arborvitae hedge had turned brown, I couldn't imagine what happened!

I have a local fellow who comes in to cut the grass and trims the shrubs, but he did not know what was wrong. He suggested one of the "big lawn service companies" - and I started researching!

I called Almstead and met a day or two later with Jonathan who immediately knew it was bag worms! The hedge was FILLED with them! I honestly thought what I was seeing was part of the trees...maybe seed pods or a sort of "pine" comb thing.....but really they were cocoons!

Jon looked at all trees and shrubs on the property, and observed other issues, but was confident with proper care the issues could be remedied.

I learned a LOT about what spotted lanternflies go after, why I should re-think the Boston ivy on the bottom of two trees, and what those little white spots are on some of the leaves on my ornamental maple.......Jon is just a wealth of knowledge.

Almstead came and spayed pest control and fertilizer just last week, and I remain buoyed by Jon's confidence. Almstead will be returning in the fall to prune the trees.

VERY happy I called Almstead!

Oscar , Chino the specialists with Almstead I recommend to anyone! Great team for your trees and yard.

We could not be happier with the crew that came, especially Jim and Oscar. It was purely evident how much care and passion the team here has. They went above and beyond. Were kind, careful, and answered every question we had.
We are appreciative of your services, and have told many friends and family about your company! Highly recommend, and already planning to call you next season!

Oscar and his Team were excellent and helped me with cutting the trees down efficiently and diligently - Oscar had to get the permission from another company to go on their side of property in order to take care of my trees and nothing was touched and or broken. They were wonderful and very cooperative. Very glad that I used Almstead Services.

I'm pleased to give a review of Tim. He was accommodating with a smile, and in no hurry as is the case of most our people down this way, always in a hurry. It really made an impression, a strong one at that. I trusted his opinions to the few questions I did have for I could tell he knew what he was talking about. He was a pleasure to deal with, and when he left I felt I could sit back feeling I dealt with a true individual I would deal with time and time again. Hang on to him and do what it takes to keep him in your presence. I mean this with the sincerest thoughts. -Lyn

Had Almstead come in to prune and cable an eight stalk red oak. The "tree climbers" were amazing. The job was done expertly, efficiently and clean-up was perfect. Two previous companies had declined the job as too big for them.
I will not hesitate to use Almstead in the future for additional work that needs to be done around the property.

We had a lot of damage with many of our trees after the ice/snow storm in December 2019. After several estimates we went with Almstead Tree, Shrub & Lawn Care Co.

Oscar and his staff had full understanding of the scope of work needed to remove the fallen tree branches and the required pruning of our trees.

They were punctual, respectful and took great care cleaning up our property.

Almstead Tree and Shrub is concerned about maintaining trees and other plants. On repeated visits over the years, arborist Oscar Winfrey remembers details about tree work that has been done in our yard. The crew is very skilled when trimming in the tops of trees when teamwork is so important. I recommend this company to others.

UPDATE 7-24-23. Unfortunately, I decided to give this Company another chance. BIG MISTAKE!!! After waiting home all day for Ryan to give me an estimate for work to my trees, he called me 30 minutes before the appointment and said, due to my past bad review, it would not be a good idea to do business anymore. Stay FAR AWAY from this Company!!

HORRIBLE !!! I carefully explained to Ryan that I wanted his crew to gently trim the TIPS of a few branches that were hanging down. INSTEAD, his crew butchered my beautiful Red Maple Tree. They cut 15-20 foot branches off the tree which were perfect and would have cut more if i did not come out of the house and stop them. Then they tried to send me a bill for almost destroying my tree !!!

Great company with reasonable prices. Great customer service from Safa, she answered so many of questions

I went through a half dozen services before settling on Almstead. They cost more, but I honestly lost so much money by hiring slightly less pricey establishments who eventually did shoddy work that needed to be corrected. Enter Almstead. They installed a polished landscape that I wish I had gotten years ago. Like a pricey car or nice hotel- once you have a perfect experience there's no going back.

They are not good at the tree care service. I am not happy working with them. Because they are only interested in the money they will earn. They are not concerned about the diseases affecting the trees or the trees not bearing fruit. I started working with them with hope because my trees were diseased, and I could not get any fruit. We have been working together for about a year, and nothing has changed. My trees are still diseased, and there is still no fruit. I called them to show the disease in the trees and asked for help, but they came weeks later and left without doing anything.

All of the staff, the technicians, the pruners, and the arborists have been highly trained and good quality individuals. I am particularly in praise of their arborists. First Jon and now Oscar Winfrey. Oscar is very knowledgable, punctual, responsive and accommodating. The service he has provided has been exceptional. I also want to include that I have used Almstead Tree and Shrub for years. I needed a company that could provide completely organic care of my grass, trees and shrubs. Over the years, my land has achieved a beautiful and healthy biome. My property stands out in the neighborhood. All the wildlife are very happy here. My garden is my Sanctuary.

Almstead Tree Care Co. removed a 110' Oak from my backyard yesterday. I have used several other arborists in the past, but will never search again. Almstead was so careful not to hit my porch as other arborists have done in past. The men working on the tree were polite, professional and most of all, experts in their field. Oscar, the arborist, kept me informed of when they would arrive, when the cut logs would be removed and when they would grind the stump. I was happy from start to finish and highly recommend them.

The best tree care company in the area, period! Friendly staff and super knowledgable arborists.

I’ve been using Almstead’s lawn, plant heath care and pruning services for years, and my property has never looked better. Would highly recommend!

My wife and I had a great experience from start to finish! Their team did an excellent job and overall we received great customer service!

A Cut Above the Rest!

Almstead is an exceptional landscaping company—but they are so much more than that. What truly sets them apart is their incredible office staff, led by the outstanding Safa and her wonderful assistant, Kristy. Their professionalism, efficiency, and genuine care make every interaction seamless and pleasant.

Almstead has a staff that preserves trees and shrubs, with pruning and even climbing to high unreachable trees to clear dead branches!
Their crew works hard and efficiently!
I like to preserve the woods!!!

I use this company for plant health care, and I’ve had a great experience. The tech, Jim, is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to explain everything clearly. The office manager, Safa, is always very helpful and friendly, making scheduling and communication super easy. Highly recommend their team!
