Carlos has to be the rudest, most unprofessional person in this line of work. Just like everyone else, he came to give me a quote that I am still waiting for. If you have too much work just say that, don’t have me waiting for a quote. And when I call you.....of course you don’t answer.

Carlos stop pushing clients away with your unprofessionalism!!!!

Superb work. Excellent in fact.

However they never refunded an over-payment. Many phone calls, emails and then more phone calls.

Were it not for this I'd give these guys six stars. So use them, just don't let them hold your money pending a refund.

Carlos gave us a retaining wall, front paver pathway, back paver patio, raised patio, new stairs and did everything beautifully! We could not be happier - our project was completed in less than two weeks and the guys on the job were really hard working! Thank you Carlos!

We live in the Cypress area of Verona, a 100-yr flood zone for the Peckman river. The Hovnanian construction in Cedar Grove has clear cut 90 acres of forested land and resulted in the water table rise and flooding of our neighborhood. As a result, we lost total enjoyment of our property. Charles came to our home, surveyed the property, and designed a drainage system that helps the water flow out to the street. The town is connecting this system to its main network in 2021. Charles team was prompt, professional, courteous and thorough. The land looks like very little work was done... they grass plugs were put back into place, the bare spots were seeded with hay sprinkled on top. We will now have our land back thanks to Charles!!! I was overwhelmed by how amazing a job they did and so quickly. Two days of work.

We hired Charles and Sons to redo out entire backyard and they did a fantastic job. They regraded the yard, added a railroad tie border for a swing set and reseeded our lawn. They completed the job very quickly and with high quality.

Charles and Son arrived promptly to diagnose our problem. Forwarded an estimate via email with a personal number to answer any questions. He also arrived in person to go into more depth on what was to be done. His crew arrived on a scheduled day and worked through the two days to complete the project. I would recommend Charles and Son to handle any drainage problem.

Carlos has a great crew. They are fast and efficient and everything is well done. We had them install an exterior drainage system, fix a retaining wall, pave our driveway, regrade our yard and lay down sod, all in a week.

We had Charles and his crew come out a second time to rebuild a fallen stone retaining wall and add a French drains to connect our new sump pump drain and existing drain spouts after they built a half retaining wall/flower bed last year. Each time the guys we polite, friendly, clean and you could tell they enjoyed working together. We will use them again when the need arises...

Charles & Sons created a paver patio for my wife and I in our backyard. After contacting several companies, many of which did not want to place the patio where we wanted it because of a sloping yard, I reached out to Charles and Sons. Charlie came to my house to provide a free quote. Not only was he willing to place the patio exactly where I wanted it, he was significantly cheaper than everybody else. After hiring Charlie, it took some time for the work to begin, but once it did, there was no time wasting. Five guys came out to my house and created an amazing patio in one day. I managed to get a bigger patio, with the exact stones that I wanted, and at a much cheaper price. The guys were amazing! They were professional, focused, and incredibly hard working. I will definitely be hiring Charles and Sons for future projects.

These guys are perfectionists. Charles is also very creative and 100% trustworthy We met with nine top rated companies before picking Charles & Son (recommend by a friend in Upper Montclair as well as good reviews on sites like Google). He gave us a great computer generated design before they did the work. Huge crew with lots of equipment. As a producer who builds a lot of movie sets, I know a highly skilled and hard working crew when I see one. We could not be happier with the work they did. We had one small electrical issue three months later, and Charles sent his crew over the same day and fixed the problem. We are now hiring Charles & Son to do more landscaping work, some structural work on our garage, and interior stone flooring. From an integrity, work ethic, an quality perspective, I give these guys an A. (BTW, their bookkeeping dept. caught an accidental overpayment we made on our last check, and sent us back a check for the overpayment without our even being aware of it.)

Carlos and his team did an excellent job installing a new patio, fixing an existing retaining wall and drainage system. Professional, efficient and accommodating. Looking forward to working with them in the near future. Highly recommend!

Another great job by Carlos and his team! Removed 2 layers of asphalt, widened existing driveway and paved with asphalt. Also ran additional pipes for drainage. Professional, neat and very accommodating. Definitely recommend. 6/1/23

We contacted Charles and Son to remove a flagstone walkway 25' long and replace with paving stones; and remove cement landing and replace with blue stone. His workers did the job in two days, at a fair price, and the walk is truly a work of art--and done in two days! Carlos has a great eye for detail and color. He is polite, has many photos of previous jobs to show, and is dedicated to his work. We have now hired him to redo our extensive front landscaping. It was a pleasure doing business with him.

Just had them install a major drainage system in our front yard, and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience! They responded quickly to provide a (very reasonable) estimate, completed the job on time and within budget, and were tidy, professional, polite, and thorough in their explanation of the system they installed. I highly recommend them for your next project!

Highly recommend this company.  Charlie and his team are skillful and they have the equipment needed. They built a round patio with the firepit on a slop that had a lot of huge boulder rocks in two days! The job was done impeccably, the area looks better than we could have imagined. They replanted our trees and planted bushes and grass. They left the area clean and beautiful. The best company we ever used!

Couldn't recommend Carlos and his crew more. When many other contractors were nay sayers, coming up with problems without even trying, explaining things were not possible or were going to be outrageously expensive, Carlos had a can-do positive attitude, offering solutions and simply figuring out a way to make things happen. We hired them for a variety of work in our backyard: building a staircase coming down from our porch, leveling our sloppy backyard, installing a fence, planting bushes and finally extending and pretty much re-doing our sad little outdoor patio. I have worked on many movie set and my wife on many live events, productions that always involve a large and highly skilled group of people working toward a same goal, and I have to say, we have rarely seen a group of people work as hard and as efficiently as these guys. In 1 week, they totally reshaped our backyard, brought in whatever tractor and gear necessary (for the greatest pleasure of our 2yo) and in 2 days they just made a wonderful blue stone patio appear out of thin air. The day before they started on the patio, Carlos pointed out that we should remove all the stones from the old patio and mix them with the new ones he was bringing so that it would look coherent and not additional. We never would have thought of that, and even though it meant more work for him and his crew, he made sure to point it out. These guys want a job well done, it's not only about getting the money and run, and this is what I always look for when I hire anyone. On the actual production days, from 8a to 5p, this crew barely ever stopped working and always maintain an artistic eye on the work. When things didn't work the way we thought they would as every project do, they made sure to find a solution that would look just as beautiful, if not more, instead of just moving along with something that would kind of work. Carlos is sometimes a little hard to reach but it's a small price to pay to have affordable talented workers transform your living space for the better. And also, Carlos is just a kind person, which makes this experience fun and pleasant all throughout. We can't wait to be able to work with them again.

We had a great experience with Carlos! He squeezed our job in just before Memorial Day. Our backyard had been upturned by another company, and they never returned to complete the job. Charles and Son met us, despite the busy holiday season. Our house is one of those old houses with a narrow driveway, so it wasn't possible to get any machines back there to dig up the roots. Carlos' team dug up my whole yard by hand! They found a tree stump buried under my backyard and cut roots the size of a grown man. It was amazing. They not only saved my foundation from those massive roots, but they turned our yard into a showplace in about 5 days! I have nothing but praise for them. We recently had to sell our house because we found work out of state, but a major selling point for our house was our yard. We sold in three days! Thanks again, Charles and Son!

We've been having drainage issues with our property ever since we bought it, with water standing in our yard at several points and a single drain in our driveway constantly becoming blocked up and causing water to accumulate and flood our garage. We spoke with several contractors for recommendations and corresponding estimates. We ultimate chose Carlos's team even though his estimate was the highest because we appreciated how his proposal would create the most thorough and long-term solution to the problem. We also liked that they were a local choice.

Based on other reviews here, we were prepared for potential delays with work starting. And sure enough, two major storms hit in between the time we signed the contract and the time work began, causing our timeline to shift by about a month. To us, this was fair and reasonable considering the circumstances, but it was good to be aware of this possibility ahead of time. Once the team were able to get started, Carlos's team was extremely efficient with some major work with heavy machinery, did everything they said exactly how they said it, and did not deviate from the original estimate.

Of course it's still early, but so far the drainage system works seamlessly. The stone staircase they built for us is precisely what we wanted as well. Would highly recommend and will likely work with them again on other construction and landscaping jobs.

We recently hired Charles and Son Construction and Landscaping to create a patio and outdoor space in our new home. As we have a small yard, impervious coverage was an issue, which dictated the creation of a suitable drainage system and utilization of permeable pavers. We also requested a small space for our dog, with adequate drainage and high-quality artificial turf typically utilized in newer dog parks.

From the onset, all of our interactions with Charles and his team were professional, including design, paver selection and layout, turf selection, excavation, installation, and cleanup. They accommodated our request on relatively short notice despite a heavy workload, started on time, and completed the entire project in 5 days. The team worked very hard over this 5-day period, despite intense heat.

The completed project far exceeded our expectations in terms of design, quality of work, and overall aesthetic. The cost was also very reasonable. I cannot recommend Charles and Son enough and will most definitely recommend them to anyone looking to beautify and landscape their yard.

Horrible experience. I made an appointment for someone to come out and give a free estimate. They arrived and told me the cost of everything. I asked them to send me a breakdown of what they would be doing and how much it would cost. They said they would but no one ever got back to me. I texted with no response. What is the point of booking a company and having no transparency. No one followed up with me and it’s been a month. Picture is attached for proof. Just horrible
