My combi boiler was providing my house with hot water, but no heat so I contacted JR Heating on a Friday and sent them photos of the inside of the unit, specifically the pump, which the tech help from the boiler company itself told me is the likely issue. The guy from JR heating told me he has that pump and can come over and fix the boiler the next day, Saturday. I was very doubtful he actually had the right pump because it seemed to be very hard to source online, but I sent him a photo so who knows, maybe he somehow had it.

So he arrived and I immediately recognized the brand of the pump he brought was not the same as the pump in my boiler. I asked him about it and he communicated to me that he was going to use the inside part of the pump he brought and put it into the casing of the pump that was already in my boiler. After turning off the water valves to the boiler and disconnecting a bunch of pipes to get to the pump, he removed the old pump and tried his fix, but (not shockingly) he then told me “it doesn’t fit.” Then he called his partner. He then said his partner had "the right pump" and could come install it Monday. I spoke to the partner on the phone and told me the same thing about the pump - when I questioned why wait until Monday he said "he’s too far away to come today and he doesn’t work Sunday’s, but he’ll come Monday.” I had no choice. Then the guys who were here went to autozone to get gaskets and ORings to put into the pipes. They came back and tried to reconnect the pipes, but now everything was leaking, a lot. They tried a little bit longer and finally told me “We can’t fix it. We don’t have the right O rings and gaskets. We’ll be back Monday with the right things.”

So essentially they took apart a bunch of pipes in the boiler to try and install the wrong pump, and then couldn't put it back together again.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing and said “What about our hot water?” He said “ummm no….” I said “So, now we don’t have hot water too?” and he could tell I was upset and said “umm…no." Again I repeated “So I have no hot water until Monday?” and he said “Yes.” I couldn’t believe they were just leaving me with no hot water, leaks everywhere, and puddles (see the photos.) I felt helpless.

I wanted to make sure about this “correct pump” they claimed was coming Monday, because I saw how few places carry this pump. Only 2 places in Illinois and one was out of stock. I again said "Your partner has the right pump?” “Yes” he replied. “You gave him the part number to make sure?” He seemed to not fully understand what I was saying and I went over to the pump and showed him the Model Numbers of this specific Grundfos pump. “He has this exact one??” I asked. Then he attempted to take a photo and said “I send to him.” I said “I thought you already did this? How can it be the right pump if you didn't give him the Model Number?” It was at that point I was sure, they didn't have the right pump and weren't going to fix it. They got in their van and left me with puddles and a leaking mess. Water had even seeped under floorboards around the boiler room.

Monday came and I was sure I was not going to hear back from them at all. I seemed to be right and I called them around noon, explained who I was and said "Is anyone coming??" and he asked me if his partner called me. I said “No nobody called me.” he said “Oh….I call him. I’ll get back to you.” Not surprisingly that was the last I heard from them.

Actually, Wednesday night when they texted my wife’s phone looking for business - seemingly not knowing she was my wife - and asked “We got your message about looking for boiler replacement?”

Completely unprofessional! I'd never recommend them and now I have to get a brand new boiler system.

NOTE: I was never told they had to or were going to order the correct pump. There was never a plan on their end to come back. They never contacted me after they left me with a mess on Saturday.
