Miguel was so helpful and friendly. He fixed all of the problems we were having with our cabinet doors. He was very skilled, professional and kind.

Miguel arrived on time and immediately covered his shoes with booties. He worked diligently at installing two grab bars into the ceramic tile shower and upon completion, thoroughly cleaned every speck of dust. I highly recommend Handyman of Chapel Hill, and especially, Miguel.

We had four 20-year-old smoke alarms replaced. We got a service call within one day, excellent tech, expert advice, and at less cost than I’d expected. I highly recommend Mr Handyman.

Tony was excellent. He finished one task with time remaining. I asked whether there were “handymen” who repaired grout. He asked to see the place that needed repair. When he examined it, he said he had grout in the truck and could do the repair quickly, which he did. He arrived on time, did the tasks quickly and well, and was pleasant and professional. A+++

Update: Ask for Sam if you’re looking for drywall repair! Company sent Sam to fix previous job. He was professional, diligent, and did a great job.

Previous Review: Hired to replace drywall and install laminate flooring in laundry nook. Was not able to install flooring, damaged planks provided, and still charged us for labor. Drywall was replaced poorly with gaps, large visible ledges, thick compound in corners, and one piece of drywall completely angled.

For how much they charged us per hour I am completely mortified at the amateur job done.

From initial appointment to the dry wall repair being completed, everyone was responsive and professional. Scheduling my appointment was easy and Miguel who did the home repair was fantastic! Great job and will definitely use Mr. Handyman in the future. Thanks, a lot!

Sharing this as a warning to be very cautious when using this company. In a nutshell, they drag their feet through the work to make as much money in you as they can. Additionally, they executed the work very poorly (e.g., crooked wall hanging, shelf hardware coming out of the wall), and tried to scam me into paying them more to come fix it.

Last March, I decided to take it easy for the first time ever and hire a handyman to do a few tasks. I found Mr Handyman and was impressed by the reviews, so I decided to give them a shot. They quoted me 1 hour to hang 1 Lego wall hanging, hang 2 4-ft long shelves, and hang a tv on a mount - seemed reasonable.

The tech started hanging the first piece - a Lego map with hangers. Despite being bit and heavy, he tried using small picture hangers (the gold ones with the nails), and it immediately failed - completely bending the picture hangers. The piece already had hangers on the back with a slot for a screw head. It should have been obvious that picture hangers would not work. He installed more appropriate anchors and hung the map, only to find it was crooked. The technician tried to brush it off and said he would have to make a whole new set of holes to fix it but the picture couldn’t be rehung at that same height. By this time, an hour had passed and I was stressed about there being 2 more tasks left. So I helped him re-angle the screw to improve the crookedness, although it didn’t fix it.

Next, the techn installed two shelves using my shelf hardware but provided his own anchors. Once hung, the shelves looked okay at first glance, but something was off. I couldn’t immediately put my finger on it. When he left, I went to add a few things on the shelf and figured out the issue. Not only was the bottom shelf crooked, but both shelves had started coming out of the wall!

Finally, the third task. All the tech had to do was screw the tv on a prev installed mount. He stared at the tv and screws like he was stumped. I had to stop working at the time and help him understand where the screws go. I expected Mr Handyman to be a pro at tv mounts, but it seemed like it was the tech’s first time. I was shocked. I guided him and helped him get the tv up on the mount so we could be done.

The whole process took 2 hours later. At wrap up, I expressed concerns about the work, and the extra time he spent re-hanging the Lego piece. He called the front office and they offered to come back to fix things at a discounted rate. I was confused. Why wouldn’t they fix the things they screwed up per their guarantee? They really wanted me to pay more for their mistakes. I spoke to the front office person a couple of times, and she decided to pass me along to the owner, Shane. I left a 1) message with the front desk, 2) a voicemail with the owner, and 3) several emails asking Shane to call me back. I never heard from him until July when I received the invoice. I responded with a summary of the above issues and again asked him to connect so we can discuss. I never heard from him until today, 10 months later! He texted me the invoice and threatened to take me to small claims court, claiming he has asked for payment multiple times. I responded that he asked for payment 1 time after the time of service and reminded him that I’ve reached out to him to sort things out but never heard back. He now says they guarantee the work and will fix it but he wants full payment. Needless to say, I won’t be hiring them again.

2/11 update: Only after posting this review did the owner finally respond and offer to fix the work. A different tech came and did a great job addressing the issues. What irks me is the owner is now saying my above review was untruthful bc I said they overcharged. I do believe they did. The first tech moved at a snail’s pace and did a crap job. The second tech fixed the original work in a hour. So why did the first tech need 2 hours for work not even done right? I clarified my language above but it seems unprofessional to call me a liar. I’m glad they fixed things, but again, I’ll never hire them again.

I purchased a home in North Raleigh which was in foreclosure and had no landscaping . The crew at Old North State Landscaping went well above and beyond in their efforts to landscape a barren yard. Look up the pictures on Zillow Afro the address at 4001 Soaring Talon Court, Raleigh 27614.

They just completed an intricate project for me. From the start I couldn't be more pleased. They came in at a fair price (I got three bids) and did everything they'd say on budget! That's right on budget!!! And also here's the crazy part, two days early! I would recommend them to anyone! Will was great, be sure to ask for him....

The workmanship of Old North State is second to none. Their attention to detail on every aspect of the job process was incredible. We now live in our back yard and every time we go outside the stunning craftsmanship amazes us. Highly recommend this company and would use them again.

We had a tremendous drainage problem on our property, which is on a fairly steep hill. Rain would cause running water down the gravel driveway we share with our neighbor, to the point where the ruts were deep enough to do damage to our vehicles, and her front walkway was routinely flooded. We also realized that getting from our driveway to our front door would be impossible if we were injured or in a wheelchair, because the driveway is 10 feet higher, with the only acsess a stone stairway. Old North State did a wonderful job solving both problems. The drainage has held up beautifully to the torrential rains we had this summer. We now have a covered front porch leading to a 90 foot long wooden walkway that curves through the trees, sloping gradually up to the driveway---a truly unique solution and a gorgeous carpentry job done by Alan and his crew. It not only solves the problem, but it really enhances the appearance of the house.
Bill also solved parking problems, fixed the access to our well, and provided topsoil for our garden, among other things. Coming up with the plans for all this took a lot of brainstorming and communication, and he was very patient and helpful. I would definitely use Old North State in the future.

THIS IS THE LANDSCAPER YOU SHOULD HIRE! We have had others and there is no comparison. If you want the job done right the first time this is who to call. The initial quote was a bit high for us, but we narrowed the project a bit and made some changes to get costs down. It is worth every penny. We have spent so many hours trying to get other companies to get sprinkler systems to actually work or to redo poor workmanship. I regret not using ONS from the very start of our landscaping project.

I can not say enough positive things about this company. From our first experience with Whitney and Will and the rest of the crew our experience was Outstanding! We had a massive backyard project from landscaping to poured patio and stone work to electrical and plumbing, you name it, they did it. Quality of work and customer service including communication was second to none. Can't wait to find more projects for them to do.

Old North State did the most awesome drainage job in my yard. Several people earlier had done substandard work to alleviate the drainage issues in my yard. They are the greatest at what they do. I could'nt be more happy with their work and their workers. If you need you job done right the first time, call these guys!

Bernie and his team did a great job tiling our complicated backsplash and repairing some fairly extensive flood damage. We couldn't be happier with the results or their professionalism.

Bernie did a complete bathroom renovation for us and we couldn't be happier. He is honest, has an amazing attention to detail and vast knowledge and experience. We won't hesitate to call Bernie again!
