The crew was friendly, on time, and did excellent work. They regrouted our flagstone walk that had not be attended to for more than 25 years. We give them 5 stars and would not hesitate to recommend them and of course Russell Scott at Sticks and Stones who is carrying on the craftsmanship of his wonderful father, Garrison Scott.

Wonderful experience. Everybody showed up when expected, completed the job as proposed, and left the site clean as a whistle. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

We highly recommend Sticks and Stones. They helped us create a beautiful place for our family to hangout. The chapel hill gravel patio and fire pit has been a big hit with our family.

They did a great job and at a reasonable price.

    Thanks Russell and team!

We used Sticks & Stones for backyard covered patio & it turned out perfect! We get so many compliments & people walking on the path behind the house stop & take pics all the time. The patio looks as good as it did at beginning, absolutely no settling. Would definitely use again & highly recommend!

Russell and his team did an amazing job on our backyard hardscape plan! We needed a new path and retaining wall to control flooding in our yard. We also added a patio with a seat wall and lights. We love it! They are very responsive to customer requests. Highly recommend!

Attached are pictures of the second job Sticks and Stones just finished for us at our new home. The planter wall is around an existing garden which they did a great job of protecting during the project. The first job was a patio, retaining wall and tree rings. Both jobs are built to last and the professionalism, knowledge and skills Garrison, Keith and the rest of his crew brought to both jobs is worth every penny. Their work has already added to the curb appeal of the neighborhood and our home value. We do not hesitate at all in recommending Sticks and Stones. Again, their work is worth every penny.

Russell Scott gave me a terrific new patio. He had lots of advice and information and hands-on supervision. A special thanks to David and Rodrigo who spent 7 days doing the work - during the cold snap in mid-january when the morning temp was around 28 degrees. They showed up every morning at 8:15am, worked tirelessly, never complained, and made sure everything was done precisely. It's the little extras too. David and Rodrigo fixed the latch on my gate so it would close, brought in my trash carts from the street one day, stacked extra bricks in the back of my yard - all unasked. When the patio was done, they rototilled around the edges of the patio and added conditioning soil so I could plant bushes and flowers this spring. And I have overhead lights and foundation lights along 2 sidewalks. A really great job and friendly, responsible, skillful guys. Thanks!

From planning to clean up, Russell and the Sticks & Stones of NC team did a great job on our patio. Russell helped us plan the work by discussing layout and material options and helping us arrive at the best patio. He provided an accurate cost estimate and schedule with the work completed on time and within budget. He and his team were meticulous in their work and the result is a beautiful patio. We can't believe the great improvement it is and highly recommend Sticks & Stones of NC for anyone wanting outdoor improvements.

Russell did an amazing job on our new patio! The precision and skill in design, grading, and installation of a paver patio, plus a beautiful stone sitting wall, new steps and lighting were top notch. We are in a 1984 house and between settling, some old damage that required original brick steps to be partially removed (years ago), a wooden deck that had rotted and some old pavers...well, we just had kind of a mess. Russell repaired and matched the 1984 brick steps so they look complete again, then installed the new patio, wall and stone steps. We had to have a fence put in along one side to keep our dogs in and he came back out and cut each paver to fit around the fence post perfectly so that the beauty of our new patio was not disrupted. Russell does ALL the work himself, with the help of 1-3 men for the heavier work, and is extremely detail-oriented, even in shaving off small amounts of the irregular parts of a cement parking pad to have a straight line to work off of. Although precise and "OCD" with his workmanship, Russell is just the most pleasant, easy-going guy to work with. We were difficult customers, second-guessing our choices, asking lots of questions, making changes and adding on things as we went (we actually doubled the project size mid-way)...and he never made us feel pressured or rushed to make decisions or made us feel badly about our uncertainties and changes. If you are looking for a skilled stone/brick mason who will take beautiful care of your property, I cannot recommend him enough! (PS - the photos make the lights look yellow but they are not - they are a soft white)

I kept waiting to do this review for the plantings in my new retaining wall to properly show off the fabulous work that Russell and his crew did for us. I'm waiting no more.
We are extremely pleased with the retaining wall garden bed and the repair to our steps (yup, sticks and stones) which Russell accomplished at our home.
He went above and beyond to make sure that the material and look of our project was exactly what we wanted. He dealt with all of our quirky/very specific requests and the finished product is spectacular. Several other reviewers have mentioned Russell's attention to detail. This shows up best where the deck steps meet the patio. Each brick was specifically cut to make that look amazing!
Russell and all his guys were great to have around doing their thing! Very professional, but super friendly.

We recommend Sticks & Stones of NC due to their exceptional work in installing a walkway and a pad for our waste bins. Previously, moving the bins through mud and grass was a major annoyance. Sticks & Stones addressed this issue by creating a perfectly level and solid surface that connects our driveway directly to the waste bin pad, eliminating the hassle.

The crew demonstrated professionalism and punctuality throughout the project. They paid close attention to the base preparation and drainage, ensuring that the path remains stable and does not shift over time. They also used pavers that made the new walkway’s appearance completely compatible with a walkway on the other side of the driveway. Additionally, the team offered helpful suggestions regarding the walkway’s shape, which improved the walkway's functionality.

If you are seeking a reliable team for your hardscaping needs, we suggest contacting Sticks & Stones of NC. Their expertise and thoughtful approach make them an excellent choice for any such project.

I could not be happier with the patio and drainage system Sticks & Stones installed in Q4 2025. Russell and his team delivered excellent craftsmanship from start to finish and thoughtfully addressed grading and drainage challenges. The final result looks beautiful and functions exactly as we hoped. It has enhanced the outdoor space while effectively solving water flow issues. Professional, responsive, and high-quality work throughout.

I have been using Sticks&Stones for the better part of 15 years and the honesty and craftsmanship are what keep me coming back! What started out as one small project turned into a long term partnership and friendship with the owners. The number of regular complements I receive on a regular basis keep reinforcing the decision I made to work with this incredible team.

Russell and his team are fantastic to work with! Russell brought our vision to project completion with consistent communication so tweeks could be made along the way. Russell is absolutely a contractor who will collaborate with you because he actually cares that you end up with what you want…that makes him happy and in turn, you become a satisfied customer. He also shares his knowledge of best practices so you end up with a product that is not only aesthetically attractive, but structurally sound. I highly recommend Sticks & Stones!

Let me just start off by saying Russell really knows his stuff! From the first day on site Russell and his team were super professional and kind. Even going as far as making sure they would not be interrupting our neighbors!

I removed my old deck myself and Russell was kind enough to loan me all of the tools I needed to do the demo so I wouldn't need to go out and buy crowbars. He even gave me advice about how I could hang lights over the patio and how I could attach them to the trees and the house.

Russell was able to give tons of recommendations and didn't try to put pressure on us to spend more money than we wanted. He was understanding and easy to work with at all points during the project. He did a great job guiding us through the entire project from the planning and drawings until the project was completed. He was always super quick to answer any questions I had even in depth questions about little details.

Russell spent the time to keep us updated about our project and explained every step of the process in detail. He even spent the time to explain all the details again to my wife if she wasn't around to hear the progress of the project the first time he told me.

David and Nica did an incredible job building our patio and were always there to answer any questions I had for them. I spoke with them almost every day and got to know them over the length of the project. They expressed that they really enjoy working for Russell and that he treats them very well and I think that's amazing to hear. I saw first hand how Russell treats his employees and even brought them lunch multiple days.

I highly recommend using Stick and Stones for your next project!

Upon first contacting them the owner was a really nice guy who took time out of his day to explain to me the process of how he and his son do their stone masonry and the techniques and details they use, do down to their supplier and how they only use the best quality products for cement and sand. They were honest with me the whole time and even took time to help me if I wanted to tackle doing the stone veneer myself because their so booked with jobs. I highly recommend them and I know they would do good work! Thank you guys!

0 Stars - A Complete Waste of Time

If you’re considering Total Masonry for any work, do yourself a favor and DON’T. I hired them for a simple concrete job that should have taken two days, but after three months of constant rescheduling, it became clear they had no intention of doing the work. They rescheduled me more than 15 times! Some excuses, like heat waves, made sense, but most were just ridiculous—family issues, vacations, or being busy with other customers who I had booked before. It’s clear that they prioritize everyone and everything over their clients.

Dimitri, the owner, had no problem collecting the $1000 deposit the same day of our agreement, but took over 10 days to return it when I finally had enough. They basically wasted my entire summer stringing me along, offering one excuse after another, without ever starting the job.

If you want to deal with a company that treats its customers like an afterthought, go ahead and hire Total Masonry. Otherwise, avoid them at all costs and find someone who actually wants to work. This isn’t a business—it’s a joke.
