We have used this company for several jobs at our home. He was professional, kind and did a great job. Will use him again!!!

We had four flat screen TV's hung, including re-wiring electrical/cable/HDMI for floating tv and custom audio speakers installed in the walls and ceilings. We also had five ceiling fans, two chandeliers, one sconce. I am very satisfied with their approach, the work completed, and they exceeded my expectations.

We had a few contractors out before settling on Affordable Home Repairs. What impressed me was that the owner was extremely knowledgeable about construction. He knew exactly what I wanted and came up with the best plan. That was something the other contractors couldn't do. I've had this done in a few houses now and his plan/estimate estimate was spot on. Again very different than the other quotes.

During the job, they were very careful, methodical and precise. There were a couple of things that I asked them to change (my fault, not theirs) and they did so promptly and with no hassles. The owner really cares about his reputation and prides himself on his reputation and Better Business Bureau reputation. The owner mentioned it a few times during the quote but I realized by how they acted throughout the process. If you need work done at a fair price; I whole heartedly recommend Affordable Home Repairs.

We had to have part of our kitchen cabinets replaced. He seemed very professional. He flipped through a notebook of references faster than we could see and the BBB rating. He estimated 12,000. We paid him part of it up front. When he came back it was about 9 am Monday. He and his 2 sons, began by ripping the cabinets off the wall faster than we could get boxes and pans to put things in. They had to walk through the house to get tools, etc. This went on for 2 weeks, skipping some days, or part of the day, just bringing supplies. They left every day about 3 to 4. His sons did most of the work. We tried to stay out of their way but he wanted to chat constantly. He didn't finish painting behind the new sorry made cabinets. About half way through the job he wanted another 3,000.00 (Thousand) more to finish. We said no and finally settled on 2,000 more. They left a mess on the carport. It took weeks to wear off. I hope no one else has to have this man to do any work for them.

Called and had someone come to our house to give me a quote. He was very professional and knowledgeable and gave me a great price. Told me they would call to schedule. I tried to get them for at least two weeks, no one answered the phone. I used another phone instead of mine and they answered. We finally set up a date for December 15. I have not heard from them since. I don't live far away from them either. Would not recommend!

I called Mr. McGee Saturday because my sisters water stopped working. He was able to come out immediately and knew exactly what to do to fix the problem, which he did at a great price!
We were very pleased with his work and also that he was so compassionate to stay late to make sure my sister had water.

    Thanks!

We struggled to find one company that could do everything needed for our early 1900's farmhouse. Tommy was able to do it all! He and his crew did our foundation repairs, repaired the porch that needed cement and stone work done, and they built an amazing deck on the back. We needed extensive foundation repairs. Three other companies come out and they refused to even return our calls! Tommy was there on time, reviewed the work we needed done and completed the job in a timely manner and it was AFFORDABLE! He was honest and very through. Tommy is a licensed electrician and is experienced in nearly every aspect of home repairs - plumbing, electrical, construction, stone and cement work, among many other things. If we could give more than 5 stars, we would. We will be using Affordable Home Repairs (from Stokesdale, NC), for all our jobs moving forward!

Tommy came to my home on time the first visit. Seemed very knowledgeable. Then he left and never sent me a quote. Never contacted me to let me know he wasn’t interested. Never would answer his personal phone or his work phone. Left numerous messages for a return call but he and his company ignored me and another person I know. His inability to give any response back is a terrible business model and he doesn’t deserve your business.
This company replied to my comment with a lie. Nothing was ever said to them about the availability of funds. All of the tasks, requested to be quoted by Affordable Homes, were completed by more reliable contractors. Contractors who would actually return your call and show up to do the work. I work with other people that Tommy and his Company did the same thing to as me.

My mother and father have used this company, Affordable Home Repairs, for 10 years or more. Now I use them for anything I need done (remodeling, plumbing, mold removal, building, driveways, hanging lights, installing bathrooms or whatever). It is good to know somebody that can literally do anything! Tommy, his wife and 2 sons will do anything for anybody and all of their work is Great Quality! Seems like everything now a days is expensive but when getting quotes for work, Affordable Home Repair is always the most affordable and reasonable!! Sometimes it does take them a little longer than expected to finish but it is because the quality of their work is something that they take pride in. Make sure you get the right “Affordable Home Repair” company when you look them up because I think there is another one out there. Tommy’s Affordable Home and Repair company is licensed and insured which is important when looking for as much work as I have had done! Thanks for all your quality work over the years!

I submitted estimate requests to two local companies through the BBB in November of last year. I chose Affordable Home Repairs because the owner came out quickly to assess my problem and the estimate he gave was reasonable. That was the only good part of the experience. It went downhill from there. Thomas Mcgee and his 2 helpers came out to start on a Friday. It soon became apparent after removing the sliding glass door assembly that there was damage to the bottom wall plate and sheathing. He told me at that time it would cost a little more but would not say how much at that point in the repair. The original estimate was for $1750 and he did say in the estimate that “any rotted wood under the door when removed will be an extra charge.”
The next day he came out was on Monday. He did not say what the “extra charge” would be until the end of the day. At that point he had the sliding door removed, a section of the wall supported with a jack, siding removed and the bottom wall plate and sheathing removed. He told me the total when he finished would be $8500. I told him ok but please see if he could make that total lower. I said ok because I was afraid of what might happen to my house if I refused to pay that amount and I just wanted the job done and him gone. I had hoped when he saw how little extra work and time was involved to finish that he would not possibly charge me $6700 dollars more than the original estimate but he did anyway. I think he knew he had me caught between a rock and a hard place. He finished later that week. Total time spent on the job was about 15 hours! I guess if you allow as much as $500 for the materials used that only comes to an “Affordable” rate of $500 an hour. He may not treat you this way if you call him to do work at your house but do you really want to take that chance? I know he will never come back to do anything for me and I have told several neighbors to never ever call Affordable Home Repairs.
After reading the reply to my negative review of this business I felt that I had to add to my review to address the inaccurate and untrue statements made and include some photos to help clear the air about what happened. Yes it did take awhile for me to post the review but it was 8 months ago when you finished the job—not a year. As for your claim that I agreed to the price before you did it that is not accurate. I agreed to the original price of $1750 with the knowledge that “any rotted wood under the door would be an extra charge.” You did not inform me of your “new” estimate until 2 days after working on the job and it was 4 times more than the original price. I could not see any way around just approving the new amount of $8500 since you had completed half of the work already plus you had a jack supporting the area where the door had been removed in order to replace the bottom wall plate. I hesitate to think what you would have done if I had told you no at that point so I did tell you to go ahead but see if you could keep the price down. You of course did not.
The reason for this was obvious from your reply where you called my behavior very rude because of where you parked. We had 2.25 inches of rain the day before and the ground was soggy to say the least so when you pulled into the driveway and decided to pull off of the driveway to park your 1 ton truck on the grass I was very upset. This was more than just a matter of parking in the wrong place. I was annoyed because I had worked hard to add good expensive soil and get grass to grow on that area and could not believe that you drove onto that soggy ground instead of just parking on the paved driveway. I explained this to you and apologized for my outburst. I did not know that you were going to use that “parking” mistake of yours as an excuse to gouge me.
As for your statement about me calling you a month ago—that is completely untrue. I never called you again and obviously never will. I have no idea why you would make up that crazy story.

It has been awhile and I now think I need to post this. Quoted for my bathtub remodel. That's all, tub section redo and wall. Took forever. Never worked a full day. Owner had son and his friend di all the work. Found black mold behind wall. Not much. Took out all wood frame and got rid of mold. Putting in tub, oh, floor is not level and need to jack up floor. Never once told me how much more anything was. Said he was finished after over a week. Tub connectors were not secure. Caulked nothing, and it looks awful. Did not get a permit for any work done. Rockingham County inspector said not to pay him for all the over priced work he did. Him and his loud wife kept threatening court. They were a joke. $3350. job was changed to over $11,200. I felt sorry for him and gave him more that it was worth. He said he would fix wrong stuff his son did but would have to take tub insert apart. Never will he enter this house again. I would never ever recommend this company !!

I contacted Affordable Home Repairs to remove an awning and replace it with a new and bigger awning. Tommy McGee was very professional and knowledgeable about the job. I explained what I was looking for and he did not try to talk me in to something I did not want. I am a widow and felt comfortable working with Tommy and his crew. I did not feel intimidated because I was a widow nor was I treated like I did not know what I wanted at any time. All of the crew was respectful and polite about everything. I was given a quote and materials were ordered. When the materials arrived the crew put up the awning. Everyone was professional. Mr. McGee explained what I needed and what needed to be done to get the awning I wanted. The wood that was used was painted by the crew. The work is complete and I am very pleased with the job. Everything was cleaned up and they worked around my plants without damaging any of the plants. It was a job well done. I am very pleased and I would recommend Affordable Home Repairs. Be sure you speak with Tommy McGee.
