Gary came to our house at 5pm and claimed our furnace was "obviously real old" and "had not been in working order for years." We used it 2 weeks ago. It was installed in 2014. He then tried to tell us the problem was there is no thermostat wired in. We had to point out the thermostat wires to him. He then decided the control board was bad and claimed "I can replace it for 2k but theres no guarantee it'll work. You should just replace it". For this, they charged me $98. I completely regret calling them out. I'm mortified by the unprofessional, lazy technician they sent us. I will never call them again. Our neighbors recommended this company. We are telling them what happened. Im sure they wont recommend again. They obviously just want to collect inspection fees and leave and they have inexperienced people in the field doing their collecting. Do not call them.

Approached at Home Depot for a duct cleaning (at the time of this review, Home Depot contracts locally with Thomas & Galbraith for this).

If you are looking for a very serious, robust duct cleaning, they're just simply not able to do it. 3 trucks were here at my house at 1 point. Took 3 hours for a 2 hour appointment to blow some dust around with an air compressor. After this "cleaning" I put my hand down in the vents and pulled various dust, dirt, and other debris out... My ducts are simply not clean. No one mentioned how anemic (pointless) the cleaing would be. No one looked in the vents. Not sure why they bothered. For their service to work, you'd have to have mostly clean, virginal ducts in the first place. I wish they'd described what they did ahead of time (that what they do may not actually clean the ducts which is what I paid for and what the name of the service is: "duct cleaning", not "attempted duct cleaning"). I will have to call someone else or do it myself...

Additionally, one of the staff left my air purifier open (part of the hvac system -- connects to the air handler), turned the unit back on, causing various errors / faults. These errors persisted and within a few days, the coils froze -- they quoted me thousands today to repair a coolant leak that didn't exist until the unit had been left open.

$500 for dirty ducts and thousands to repair a unit that was fine until they got here...

Note: the staff DID look at the thermostat and air handler and no errors were reported at the time of their attempted START of cleaning....None. These errors only developed AFTER the door of the air purifier was left open. 1 of their staff DID verify this while they were here...

I have called another company to investigate this and may update this review further. This review may be additionally reposted elsewhere and a BBB report may be filed next.

This is a pretty serious problem for me. Right now my unit is down, may have been damaged, and even if repaired, the life expectancy of this (only 1-2yr old, very expensive) system could have been diminished.

Hopefully we can stay out of court.

Note: I maintained a professional attitude and was friendly at all times with all Thomas & Galbraith staff while they were here. I don't yell at workers.

UPDATE 6/7/25: Another company confirmed today that the air purifier (EAC) system wasn't closed properly (it was almost closed -- but not completely). If the EAC is completely open, everything shuts off. If it's partially closed, it may make enough contact to communicate with the system and the system will think everything is okay (when it wasn't). Leaving the door partially open caused the coil to freeze. My unit is now up and running. $100 charge for this. I would never have had this $100 charge if it weren't for the attempted duct cleaning.

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the treatment my elderly, widowed mother received from Thomas & Galbraith. She contacted the company to request a free estimate for a suspected leak in the underground pipes at her condominium. Instead, a technician was sent out and charged her $98, only to inspect her washing machine—not the underground pipes in question.

The technician spent approximately 15 minutes on-site and informed her that another technician would need to assess the actual issue. This visit not only failed to address the original concern, but also resulted in an unexpected charge.

Following this, my brother contacted the company to request a refund. Unfortunately, the receptionist he spoke with was unprofessional and hung up on him. When I called back later, I spoke with a more courteous representative who assured me that someone from management would follow up by the end of the week. Now two weeks later, no one has returned our call.

We are extremely disappointed by how this situation was handled and feel that my mother, as an elderly customer, was taken advantage of. Based on this experience, we will not be using Thomas & Galbraith in the future, and we intend to share this experience with friends, family, and through social media to ensure others are informed.

We hope the company will take this feedback seriously and reflect on how vulnerable individuals—particularly seniors—are treated during service calls.

10/27/25 Thank you for the quick response. My mother just let me know that she was reimbursed for the $98. We appreciate your help in resolving this situation.

I called Thomas and Galbraith about two toilets that seemed to need new tank parts as they had begun running off and on. The plumber came out on July 15, 2025 and did the work. I came home later that day, both toilets were running. Called the Appointment line. Explained the issue. Asked them not to send the same plumber. Asked to have a manager call. Asked for my 7/15 receipt which had not been emailed. Same guy shows up on 7/18. Has to order a part. Comes back on 7/22 puts new part in one toilet, adjusts the other toilet. The adjusted toilets handle was way up against the tank lid and floppy. I voiced my concern before he left. "That's not an issue" he says. Go to work. Come home. The toilet with the new part is running like a waterfall. The other toilet will not flush. Call the appointment line again. Calmly I tell what's happening. Gal says I will get a call from a manager. No call yet. 3 days later. Water shut off to the running toilet. Other toilet needs added water to flush.

Scheduled an appointment for 2/16 3 days before for a clogged drain. Got a text Sunday morning that they will see me “tomorrow”. Then get a text Sunday night saying they’ve decided my service call isn’t and important as others, cancelled my service, and didn’t have any reasonable times to reschedule. I’m going to actively tell people not to use this company.

Last Friday, I had a problem with Sump pump and I looked online for Thomas & Galbraith and scheduled online for maintenance. They sent a guy, he came in with his iPad but without charge and put his iPad in my home for charging. He changed the pump to new one but closing led he messed up, he lost a screw and left as it is, and he didn’t make a hole for screws he just glued only which is not a complete work.He most of the time talked about members only, and I realized that they only worked nicely to members only not to non members. I’m completely unsatisfied with this company and its employee sent for work . So, I don’t recommend this company for doing this job.

Terrible experience, still harass me with debt company sending me letters threaten to ruin personal credits and information.

This company will over charge you and will only care about money replacing the whole system instead of fixing to very more money out of you. I had a guy came in for maintenance because my thermostat will turn off for an hour randomly and there was a sticker from the company when they install the heating system for my house last homeowner.

The guy was really rude and mean and was very entitled speaking to me about my heating system. The tech took out the case and start inspecting inside of my system and start taking the machine apart and told me that the system is old and needed a whole thing replace and also a duct clean all the vents so I go along and let him finish everything out to get quoted and pay him for the work that he did. But after he left the heater kick on and I started hearing metals scratching up against each other spinning for 15 seconds every time the heater turn on. So I thought it was just a tight thing where it just need to run for it to get loose and adapt back. And then I receive the quote pricing for just duct cleaning and replacement it was super and too expensive for me so I start researching for others choice.

And I found a company name bee duct clean on facebook that was 1/3 of their duct cleaning price and was willing to do the whole house and every single vent and went as far as cleaning out my machine from all the dust and vacuum it and spray a mold killing spray and install me 2 uv light system to prevent any mold and dirty bacteria from my house from wetness, mold and sickness.

But the system still make sound so I called them back for check up and they said their tech did not do anything for the system to make noises like that and charge for the visit over $200 again after they already did it the first visit when it’s something they messed up on and doesn’t offer to fix. But making me pay for the visit and call me everyday to make me pay, instead of fixing the problem and I refuse to pay and now they sent it to a debt collection company to mail me letters every week and the company threat to ruin my personal credits and benefits. Not recommended at all, stay far away from them, my machine is fixed by another guy for wayyyyyy cheaper and no sound and running perfectly fine.

Don’t let them scam you and say this is why your heater has your electric bills so high and all of this other stuff…. They’re not correct, It’s high because Duke Energy is charging all these few rider fees that’s $80 and up every month, the energy that you use don’t cost much at all, it’s the rider fees that the government need to invest and start fixing.

January 9, 2026 had a Sewer backup in the basement. T&G Plumbers came out as I had a plumbing contract with them. A tech came out and "Cleaned out" the sewer line to the street. He advised that I had tree roots in the pipes and may have broken pipes. He had another tech scheduled for Jan 10th. to run a camera through the pipes to advise what is going on. the 2nd tech advised me that I have broken sewer pipes. $16,000 to fix the whole pipe or $7,000 to fix just the broken pipes. Luckily I called my City Wastewater dept. They ran a camera through there and said that there were still tree roots in the pipes and that T&G tech had not cleaned out the pipes completely, only punched a hole in the clog. I had to have ANOTHER Drain cleaning company come out and COMPLETELY clean out the pipes before the city would be able to tell me if the pipes are indeed broken. City came out after the 2nd company totally cleaned out the pipes and guess what NO BROKEN PIPES, all I need to do is put RootX in the clean out pipe twice a year, or get rid of the tree. I called T&G plumbing supervisor to complain about them lying to me. He told me that there is no way they could afford to do a COMPLETE Clean out for $99, but that is NOT what the original person told me AND that the 2nd tech lied about the pipes being "broken". This could have been a $17,000 mistake on my part, if I would have believed the T&G Techs. Never again will I have Thomas and Galbraith do any plumbing work in my house. They lie, to get more work that doesn't need to be done.
