I had water coming into the corner of my basement every time it rained heavily. I got a few quotes, one of which was those basement hacks you see on tv who wanted to tear up my floor and bring even more water into my basement–and charge a small fortune. And another who wanted to dig up the entire side of my house and redo all the drain tile. Thankfully, I found Mathias at Sterner Excavating. He knew exactly what the problem was since the leak was only in the corner. I thought the problem was just the downspout pipe that was broken, but upon digging further, the footer drain was cracked and had roots growing into the pipe. It takes someone with expertise to pinpoint the exact problem since you can't see what's going on beneath the ground and someone who is honest to fix only what is necessary. With the wet spring we had this year, his work was put to the test–not a single drop of water entered into my basement.

I’d also like to mention Noah who helped Mathias with the job. He was very polite and a hard worker. Mathias was kind enough to remove few large shrubs where they were digging and Noah made sure to clean up the debris so I didn’t have to.

Additionally, I recently had an emergency situation where my power line was severed by Spectrum and I needed an excavator immediately. After the amazing job Mathias did with my basement issues, I didn’t hesitate to call him to tackle the job. He took time out of his busy schedule to come right over and assess the situation. The next day, he and the electrician had the issue taken care. It was a very stressful situation to be without power, but Mathias confidence and expertise put me at ease that the job would be taken care of.

In the office, Mary is invaluable part of the team. Adept at communicating with clients on the status of your job so you’re not left in the dark. Mathias had a very busy schedule and didn’t get to my waterproofing job right away, but Mary made sure to keep me informed until he could do my job, putting me at ease. She’s also very enjoyable to chat with.

It’s hard to find honest people you can trust to get the job done right, Mathias and Mary are genuinely good folk, and I’m glad to have found Sterner’s Excavating. I would highly recommend them and would not hesitate to use them again.

They gave me an fair quote then an excellent job of excavating the foundation to correct the problems that were existing. Fixed a sewer line problem with new pipe and correct elevation and backfilled. I would recommend him to anybody. Very professional and nice to work with.

Very professional and conscientious! They tied in our gutters and a drain in the back yard to our sewer system. They were very respectful of our neighbors yards and took care with our plants and gardens to impact as little as possible. We've had two heavy rains since and have had zero water issues! Very pleased!!

We had a huge water problem after a storm. Matthias and his crew worked for us for months. He did what was needed but we still had water coming in. It seemed the problem was complicated by an addition that leaked water as well. Matthias would not give up until he found the problem and resolved it. He went the extra mile for us and we greatly appreciate his efforts. We have not had a water problem since. Highly recommend his company.

Had Sterner excavation put a drainage system in our backyard and they did an excellent job. Also had them to seal our driveway. Really great company and you will love Mary.

After Ohio State Waterproofing had finished our basement, shortly afterward we flooded. The soonest they could get to us was 2 days from when I called. I called Sterner Excavating and waterproofing to see if they could help. They were there in 2 hours. Immediately they got to work pumping the water out of my basement. Once they had that underway they started looking for the problem, as the water was coming through the walls as fast as it could get pumped out. The long and the short of it is this, in 2 days they had the problem fixed, and now water will not be a problem anymore. Now I just have to deal with O.S.W.P. Great job by Sterner. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

We had Sterner Excavating do some work for us and they did a great job. He came to replace our storm and sanitary sewer lines. While doing the work, we found several things that were unexpected. They worked their way through every obstacle and kept the project moving. They are conscientious and easy to work with.

I had a very minor hole and crack in my slab house's foundation but was dreading calling around to find a company to fix it. Like with other minor house repairs, I expected to never hear back from company after company once they heard how minor the issue was. Based on other reviews, I chose to call Sterner first and...I picked right! Mary Sterner answered my call and was so nice and fit me in to the schedule the next morning for a quote. Both she and Matheis Sterner came out as scheduled and provided me with a fair, honest quote. Almost as importantly, they treated me with respect and kindness despite the small job and my ignorance involving house repair work. Mylan (spelling?) completed the work the SAME day despite it being after 5pm and probably already having worked a full day. I couldn't have been happier to find a local company like this, especially after hearing they also do landscaping projects, decks, patios, etc. Great work product, great people and great service. Makes me proud to share Olmsted Falls with them.

From start to finish Sterner Excavating was first rate. They were fast, efficient and timely in completing the work which had to be done.
Unlike other excavating companies they were reasonably priced. The extra work that I had done was reasonably priced and did not add that much more time to the project. If you are looking for quality, efficiency and a reasonably priced excavating company for your project then I highly recommend Sterner Excavating.

Our backyard was generally a mud pit after a few days of heavy rain. This would make it miserable for grass cutting and letting the dogs out. I finally decided to try adding some drainage. I had several quotes but Mathais gave a fair price and clearly had a great deal of experience with drainage. There was a slight delay due to weather but while we were waiting for drier weather Mary was in contact with us regularly. When the weather permitted their crew came and performed the work pretty much as described. Leave it to mother nature. We have not gotten much rain since but with the few hard rains we have gotten the yard is drying out in hours now rather than days. I used to have large puddles (or ponds) from the rain which remained for several days making it impossible to cut. Initially the ground water was still visible during the rain but quickly dissipated. Overall, they did a great job I am now just waiting to get some “real” rain fall to test the system.

Sterner Waterproofing is the best! They are honest, hard-working, caring people who will take excellent care of you and your home. I had first called Ohio State Waterproofing because I had water in my basement. They gave me an astronomical estimate, told me they were going to have to dig up my entire foundation, inside and out, and even told me that the damage was so bad that my basement walls were going to collapse and my house was going to fall down! I told a friend what they said and she recommended having Sterner's come check out my house. Mathias totally put my mind at ease and immediately figured out the problem and only had to repair 2 corners of my house. And guess what? My basement has had no more leaking and the walls didn't collapse!! My house is still standing! It's a miracle! Thank God for Mathias, Mary, and the crew!!! :)
