Rock solid did an excellent job making our flower beds look clean as well as helping to fix our drainage and puddle problem near the house! We will definitely use them in the future.

We called Matthew at RockSolid Hardscaping & Landscaping in Kingston, TN Aug 22. Matthew came to our home to go over our design ideas and prepare a quote for us, and he acted very interested in doing our job. He said he wanted to do the work in two stages because of our driveway needing to be removed first and the ground along it re-slopped before the rest of the landscaping work could be done. Matthew said he would come do the re-sloping after the driveway was torn out, and then later once our new driveway was installed, he said he would come back and complete the rest of the job.

We received his initial quote Sept 2 and we replied Sept 6 requesting some modifications. We received the updated quote Sept 16 and signed it to get on Matthew’s schedule.

While we were waiting on the revised quote, we texted Matthew Sept 10 asking if he’d be available to re-slope along the sides of our driveway “end of next week or beginning of the following week” when our driveway was being removed and the forms were being set. Matthew replied “Hey, yes I should be able to work just in the front pretty quick”. We sent him another text Sept 17 asking if he could do the re-sloping work along the driveway Sept 20. He replied he was now too busy to do it.

We sent another text to Matthew the morning of Sept 18 asking again if he could do the re-sloping work he had previously told us he would be able to do, and he didn’t reply until very late in the evening. By then, our driveway installer had gone ahead and crudely removed enough dirt on both sides of the driveway to set the forms for the new driveway. They weren’t prepared to do this work and didn’t have the right equipment, but Matthew wasn’t going to do it so there was no choice. We let Matthew know the re-sloping had roughly been done. He replied he would now be available to do our landscaping job in mid-October. We asked him for the weeks of Oct 14 or Oct 21. He replied “Yes, I should be able to make that work. I’m just not sure which day I can start.”

Matthew texted us Sept 30 saying he was behind schedule and would not be able to do our job the weeks of Oct 14 or Oct 21 and he would understand if we wanted to find another company to do the work. We had already signed his quote and agreed to have him do our work. We wanted to honor that signed quote. And, we had told the other companies we had quote our job that we were not going to use them, and going back to one of them now and trying to get on their schedule would mean even more months of waiting. We texted Matthew that to accommodate his schedule, we would arrange to make a special trip back down to TN starting the week of Nov 4 for him to do our job. He replied “Sounds good. We should be able to make that work.”

That was the last time we heard from Matthew. We sent multiple text messages and left multiple voicemails. He didn’t respond to anything. He knew we were making a special trip to TN from our OH home specifically to accommodate his schedule to get our job done, and he couldn’t have cared less. He just left us hanging.

We went back to “square one” and found a landscaper we hadn’t approached previously. We were impressed and signed with them. As the proper thing to do since we had signed with Matthew, we texted him to let him know we were going to go with another company since he was continually not responding to us nor showing up to do our job when he had indicated he would be. We again received no response. Not even an apology. Our new landscaping company ended up having a cancellation and were able to do our job the very next week and our yard looks amazing!

We know there are some good reviews online for Matthew and RockSolid, but be aware you could also have a completely different experience like the horrible one we had. Matthew was unresponsive, inconsiderate, dishonest and unreliable. If you want to rest assured you are hiring someone trustworthy and dependable to do your landscaping job, KEEP LOOKING AND DO NOT CALL ROCKSOLID.

Had Matthew at Rock Solid come out and do some sloping and putting river rock down. Excellent outcome. Highly recommend !!

He was able to help choose trees (even with our vague descriptions of what we wanted) and delivered exactly what we hoped for and In a very timely manner. Matt and Rocksolid are the best!! They came out and cleaned up a mess we had and made it beautiful…for a great price too. New stone walk way, rock steps, river rock and fresh grass too. Matt is knowledgeable, super friendly and he does what he says he’s going to do, what more can you ask for? Will definitely be calling on him again!
