Layne did a great job refinishing the existing engineered wood floors in our new house. He was very clear as to the service he was recommending vs. what wouldn't be worth our time given our goals. I really appreciated that he was willing to work within our short move in timeframe and took the time to walk us through the process.

Highly recommended. Got my job done on time and on budget, no surprises. Easiest process I’ve had to get a quote and on schedule compared to other companies.

After getting multiple quotes and some no callbacks, I felt comfortable proceeding with this company with With how tentative they were. The floors are flawless and I’m fairly OCD. The price is great as well I can confidently recommend.

We closed on a home and the floors are engineered hardwood. They looked worn and had some bare spots but we didn’t want to replace them. We contacted Dr Hardwood to get a quote on our engineered hardwood floors. They were dull and lightly scratched up. Layne came by to give a quote and explained the process of a screen and recoat. The job was scheduled and completed the next day in under 5 hours, thanks Layne you saved us from having to replace our floors.

We had 70 year old pine floors in the home we purchased in Georgetown Texas. We found Layne and Dr hardwood online when looking for floor refinishing contractors. We moved into our home a year ago. Unfortunately, the previous owners left many marks on the wood floors and had tried to cover them with a coat of extremely high gloss poly. We thought we were going to have to have the floors taken down to bare wood to get the more natural look we wanted. Then I did some research and found Layne at Dr. Hardwood! Layne explained the process, gave us a quote, and put us on his schedule within a couple of days! He was able to erase even the deepest scratches, darken the floors, and make them satin all in a day. We are so pleased with his work!

Wow, my floors look amazing. I am really impressed with the quality of the work and the end result. Layne and Alex did an incredible job of restoring the twenty two year old bamboo floors in my home. I can't say enough good things about the team and the floors. Dr hardwood and their team helped me
install 1800SF of solid hardwood flooring. Once it was installed they sand and finished the floor to bring it to life and provide an excellent coating to protect the wood. Highly reccomend Layne and his team they were excellent 10/10

Update: +1 star. After our initial review Dr. Hardwood offered to replace the damaged quarter round. They did pre-paint it, which was great, and the install was quick. They didn’t caulk or fill in the nail holes, so we had to do that part ourselves. They also didn’t replace the damaged quarter round in the closets, so we’ll need to take care of that as well. We do appreciate the effort made to remediate some of the original issues.

Original review:
I did not have the same great experience with Dr. Hardwood that others seem to have had.

What went well:
1) They were initially very responsive and provided a quick quote with a fast start time. 2) They laced together a patch in the hallway that turned out great.

What did not go well:
1) Some days the crew did not show up at all, some days they show up for an hour, some days they were there until 7pm. But because no one ever told me when they were going to be there and for how long, I had to sit around all day and wait. Every day. For 2+ weeks. 2) The crew repeatedly left doors unlocked and lights on when they left. 3) despite requesting multiple times that they leave the AC off they continued to turn it back on. So after the job was done all of the filters had to be replaced and ducts had to be professionally cleaned, at our expense. 4) The amount of dust that was left behind was insane. It was everywhere! Walls, ceilings, inside cupboards, everywhere. I found out 3 days after the job was “done” that they would have provided cleaners. We had already paid for professional cleaning in preparation for moving back in but I was not offered a discount to cover that cost. It would’ve been really nice to know ahead of time that professional cleaning was included. 5) There is a massive amount of damage to our baseboards which were new and now need to be repaired and/or replaced. We continue to incur costs related to the aftermath of this project. 6) There are several spots along the cabinets and baseboards that still have the dark stain color bleeding out. It makes the floors look dirty. Not something you expect to see on newly refinished floors. 7) We were only given 4 stain color options, and none of them were what we had asked for in the beginning. We wanted something lighter that would make all of the floors look cohesive. We did not get that result. They say it’s because we have 2 different species of wood, but in the initial consult we were assured they would blend seamlessly, so again… something that would’ve been great to know BEFORE spending thousands of dollars on refinishing. Sigh.

All in all I would not use Dr. Hardwood again or recommend them to a friend. But in all fairness I also will likely never opt to refinish floors again, it’s a very invasive and costly process to go though only to end up with mediocre results.

It’s nice that many people did have a great result. Sadly that was not our experience.

Jake was very thorough and professional. He discovered creosote buildup that would have likely resulted in a serious fire hazard. After performing a complete creosote removal, he performed a minor chimney repair by sealing a small crack. I appreciate how proactive they are in the maintenance of my chimney.
